Per Fox News, which I am watching: Bush has picked Samuel A. Alito, according to the AP, as the next nominee to replace O’Connor at the Supreme Court. Now being reported via: Breitbart and CNN.

new Supreme Court Nominee

Samuel A. Alito, Jr., 55, is a judge on the U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals for the 3rd Circuit.

Nominated by President George H. W. Bush to the court in 1990, Alito was educated at Princeton University and Yale Law School. His work experience includes stints as assistant to the Solicitor General and deputy assistant to the Attorney General during the Reagan Administration, and as U.S. Attorney for the District of New Jersey.

Alito has voted to uphold regulations on abortion, notably as the lone dissenter in a 1991 case in which the 3rd Circuit struck down a Pennsylvania law’s requirement that women tell their husbands before having an abortion. The three-judge panel preserved most elements of the abortion control law, including a 24-hour waiting period and a requirement that minors notify their parents. But Alito argued in his dissent that the spousal notification provision did not impose an “undue burden” and also should have been upheld.

In other rulings, Alito wrote for the majority in 1997 in finding that Jersey City officials did not violate the Constitution with a holiday display that included a creche, a menorah and secular symbols of the Christmas season. In 1999, he and his colleagues found that a Newark policy that allowed medical, but not religious, exemptions to a ban on police officers having beards violated the First Amendment.Source

Ruling against the ACLU? I think we like him! With the nickname Scalito, after Scalia because of his judicial philophy…this is definitely the kind of judge the president promised. Ruling against the ACLU is a nice bonus, if I may say so. Anyone who will stand up to the ACLU’s socialist agenda has to be a good pick, in my opinion. Already people on the left are whining about pandering.

I’ll have to do some homework on this one, Jay. Great job.

Here comes that big fight everyone was spoiling for! Alito is a good one cao, he is also called Scalito.

What is it with these unknowns?

The Dems will hate this one (as they’ll hate quite literally ANY pick of Bush’s) — not only isn’t he female, he hasn’t personally performed any abortions.

Early bird gets the PRIZE, Jay! Thanks for the heads-up! :-D
DAMN! I’m screaming with delight over this! It IS Christmas–my favorite Judge!

I have the ACLU v. Schundler site linked at my blog. It makes for some interesting reading.

I am behind this one all the way (so is CourtZero.org). I am very excited about this nomination.

We’ve already heard from the usual suspects: Hairless Reid, Upchuck Schumer, the Hero of Chappaquiddick, etc. People for the Atheist Way will doubtless weigh in soon. Looks like a good step toward stopping the slaughter of the innocents. Let the battle begin!!

Don’t expect any “up or down” vote after what you scumbags did to Miers. Conservatives have no principles, which is no surprise to anybody paying attention. Alito will be filibustered and the nucular option will fail because the handful of Yankee Republicans won’t sign off on it.

I don’t know who you think you are calling a scumbag, I didn’t do anything towards Miers. Matter of fact, I supported it pretty much.

What I find appalling is that Dems are concerned about his backing a law that would require women to notify their husbands before getting an abortion. The idea that they don’t makes me want to vomit. The law was shot down which is even more appalling.

Welcome to the slavering drool brigade from PO….I mean KOS.

Unfortunately Kender, it seems they are not leaving any comments.

“Unfortunately Kender, it seems they are not leaving any comments.”

Their keepers and handlers haven’t told them what to think or say yet!

I am very happy about this choice. And I love it when the Dems are upset…heh heh
