Bomb Threat at Capitol Hill
Posted on October 21, 2005
WASHINGTON (CNN) — Police on Friday took two white males from a suspicious car parked near the U.S. Capitol and were interviewing them to determine if there was an explosive in the vehicle, sources said.
No evacuations were ordered for the Capitol, but there was a heavy police presence and some streets were blocked off. A hazardous materials squad is on the scene, police said.
Authorities said there is a package in the vehicle, but it is not immediately clear if it is an incendiary device. Police said they are about to “disrupt” the package and that “a noise will be heard.”
The vehicle — a 2005 gray Chevrolet Impala — is parked in the 100 block of First Street N.W. Law enforcement sources said the vehicle is a rental car.
The two individuals were being interviewed by U.S. Capitol police. One of the individuals said a bomb was planted in the car, a source close to the investigation said.Source
There was no evacuation panic. One Congressman stated they did not believe the claims were based in reality. I don’t know about you, but I would be taking precautions anyway. Maybe its just me, but I’d rather be safe than sorry.
