The ACLU needs a helmet and a drool bib.

It seems the ACLU has decided to take on the Utah County Sheriff for breaking up a rave stating that for whatever reason there is an unfounded connection between this kind of music and drugs.

I know quite a few “ravers” and believe me, this connection is NOT unfounded.

Let us put aside for a moment that the parties organizers apparently failed to secure the required permits, (and before you scream about permits being needed for a party let me remind you that permits insure there is adequate insurance, among other things, for an event), and let us toss aside the claim that undercover officers at the party “spotted the sale and use of illegal drugs”.

Those two claims alone should make any group shy away from defending the defendents.

But the ACLU won’t let (alleged) illegal drug use stand in the way of their agenda, which in this case is the legalisation of all drugs.

I understand personal choice, and if someone wants to get high the ACLU believes they should be able to use the drug of their choice. However, illegal drugs are a scourge on our country. Forget that heroin, cocaine and meth destroy the human body, and cause everyone to pay more to take care of addicts who can no longer work because of their weak willed addictions.

Let us look at the effects of MDMA and GHB, better known as “ecstasy” or “X” and “liquid ex” respectively, andso named because of their ability to impart hyper-sensitive sensations in it’s users.

First a short look at MDMA (”X”);

MDMA (3-4 methylenedioxymethamphetamine) is a synthetic, psychoactive drug chemically similar to the stimulant methamphetamine and the hallucinogen mescaline….In 2003, an estimated 470,000 people in the U.S. age 12 and older used MDMA in the past 30 days, a significant decrease from 2002*

Well, at least the word seems to be getting out and usage has dropped. However, the next quote may show why those figures have dropped “significantly”.

Gamma hydroxybutyrate (GHB) is an illicit chemical that has become a major cause of drug-related comas in the US and other countries. In fact, the number of GHB overdoses in the United States has now out-paced overdoses from MDMA (Ecstasy).

What this boils down to is the the ACLU defending people that are promoting an events that is widely known as a place for this very drug. It is surprisingly easy to get this, or any other illicit drug that one may wish to aquire, and the only thing that makes their use less rampant is the fact that these drugs remain illegal, which protect us all.

There are many reasons that these drugs are illegal, health, safety and economic factors being at the forefront of that list, and the ACLU’s desire to legalise these drugs make absolutely no sense to me.

One of the governments job is to protect it’s citizens, within reason, from harm. It is not the governments job, for instance, to make sure that everything that could kill you is labeled. That would be the job of common sense. But it is the governments job to make sure that the interests of the citizenry as a whole are protected, hence the outlawing of substances that would alter your frame of mind and cause you to be a danger to yourself or others.

Now, before you start calling me a hypocrite and pointing out that alcohol is legal, let me remind you that alcohol is not nearly as highly addictive as these “rave” drugs, and to counter your next argument, tobacco doesn’t alter your mind.

The ACLU is wrong to take on this case, but it does serve to point out their agenda that shows no logic and is, in fact, very dangerous to our country and it’s citizens.

    Hello:
This is a sad state of affairs. I thought unions were supposed to ensure that workers are in safe environments and not victims of discrimination. Go figure that a political agenda is always lurking here. This makes me so mad!!!! Last I heard, the ACLU defended a schoolboy for cursing out his teacher! The sad state of affairs we are in now is just well…sad:(

I sincerely challenge any aclu member to take me to a rave where there isn’t rampant drug use.

Let me just say that when I was the age of these “rave” kids, I never met a drug I didn’t like. I attended several hip-hop clubs in the late ’70’s and early ’80’s in Manhattan, including the Funhouse. I am certain that this is comperable to these raves, as the upstairs of the Funhouse was an open-air drug store. In all fairness to the club, they threw me out for selling legal caffeine pills in the men’s room one night (someone else was selling bad barbituates, and alot of people were puking).

The point is that raiding the rave was a good idea. Kids die in places like this, and these places are also key drug distribution points for the “latest” drug, these days being ecstasy, I think.

This problem is in another class than alcohol or tobacco, and needs proactive tactics. Had the NYPD raided the Funhouse years ago (they might have, just never when I was there), I might have gotten on the straight and narrow much sooner, but that’s totally hypothetical, over 20 years later.

The NYPD has cracked down on these clubs, which fits in culturally with what the Utah County Sheriff is doing. Liberal ideas can only hide harmful policies for a limited time. Allowing crime to flourish under a phony “freedom” of expression is an abomination. I’m glad to see steps taken towards it’s demise.

    STOP the ACLU, PLEASE!

I got so wrapped up in my “old school” thoughts, I overlooked the part in the post about the new drugs (how’s that for a space out/flashback). I suppose the new drugs are these MDMA and GHB, the latter of which I know to be the date-rape drug. That is even worse for today’s young women.
