ACLU Shooting Itself In The Foot?
Posted on August 6, 2005
We have all watched as the ACLU has shadowed the Minute Men. Apparently they are trying to protect the civil liberties of those poor people who are only seeking good jobs to feed their children. I must have been sleeping when our Constitution was ammended to include illegal aliens with any kind of rights.
What is ironic to me is that the Minute Men are simply exercising their constitutionally protected freedom of speech, freedom of assembly and freedom to petition the government for a redress of grievances. These are fundamental rights covered in the First Amendment. In my opinion, the ACLU should be coming to their defense instead of dreaming up rights that do not exist for illegal immagrants.
So far, the ACLU have found no violations, and I’m sure they credit themselves with this fact. This obviously had them frustrated to the point they needed a toke break a few months ago. I wonder if it was the same drug dealers they decided to warn with flashing lights, horns, etc and aid them into entering our borders illegally. Are these the jobs the ACLU are wanting these poor families to offer America?
The success of the Minute Men has really got the ACLU working overtime. They are now seeking more volunteers to keep an eye on what they call “vigalantes.”
But perhaps they are shooting themselves in the foot.
Clifford Alford, an organizer for Border Watch in Las Cruces, formerly called New Mexico Minutemen, said he welcomed the ACLU. “It’s going to make it look like we have more people out there,” he said, adding that in one month, his group prevented 280 people from crossing the border just by their presence. They also reported more than 100 suspected undocumented immigrants to authorities. “We are for changing the immigration laws, and we use a humanitarian approach,” he said.Source
How ironic it would be that instead of helping illegals across the borders, the ACLU would be inadvertantly helping to stop them. They’ve already reprimanded one of their own leaders for joining the Minute Men. They labelled him with “racism and vigilantism.” He of course denies these accusations, and has stated that if the federal government allowed more immigrant workers to enter the country legally, many problems on the border would be solved. This is one ACLU leader I will agree with. The government is not doing enough to control our weak borders. The main problem is the process these people are getting here by. They are doing it “illegally.” So the PC crowd can label it however they like, but the fact remains that “illegal aliens” are getting here “illegally”, as in breaking the law…hence the word “illegal.” But the ACLU are more concerned with the rights of criminals than the security of America…yet again.
The call for more volunteers seems to indicate the success of the Minute Men Project. I hope Mr. Alford is correct, and the ACLU’s presence will actually help the Minute Men’s cause. Regardless, the ACLU’s intentions are not to do so, and I would be willing to bet that they continue to do everything in their power to obstruct the the efforts of the Minute Men to alleviate an obvious problem that the Federal Government refuses to address properly.

I love it, great post. Something blew up in the Anti-Christ Legions Uniteds face. God Bless the Minute Men.
God Bless America, God Save The Republic
“In my opinion, the ACLU should be coming to their defense instead of dreaming up rights that do not exist for illegal immagrants.”
That would make sense if the ACLU supported the Constitution. Unfortunately they are more concerned in pushing liberal causes on the American people (and I mean pushing).
Yet another example of the ACLU working against America. I have often wondered, was there ever a time that the ACLU was actually helping America? I don’t mean helping 1% of a towns population abolish everything to do with Christianity, or helping some criminal sue the government.
I’m talking about actually helping Americas’ best intrest. Surly there was a time that the ACLU was a good thing for America, but I have yet to see that in recent times.
And especially since the 2000 presidential election, the hate toward mainstream America is unreal. Not just by the ACLU, but other parallel organizations like Amnesty International and Moveon.org. Is the hate that deep?
Where’s the patriotism in America?
Actually, I think that it’s more that law enforcement should be doing this job. Not a bunch of civilians with no training. The ACLU wouldn’t have any issue with law enforcement actually doing their job. It’s that these citizens aren’t necessarily going to abide by the law when aprehending these people.
It sounds pretty fair to me. Mexicans, despite popular belief, actually have human rights that need to be respected too (even when they are breaking our laws). That’s what separates our country from countries like Egypt, Iran, and Syria: the fact that our people actually care about human rights and not just our national interest. We are a country that has values that are universal to all humans, and not just Americans. That’s why it’s codified into our law. Even if you don’t like it, it’s still there to be defended. If you really don’t like it, petition your legislators to amend the constitution. That will stop the ACLU from taking these cases to court.
The ACLU didn’t take this court, they are sending volunteers out there to pry into citizens’ privacy. If our government would put the extra law enforcement out there then the citizens wouldn’t have to stand up and do the job our government isn’t doing.
“If our government would put the extra law enforcement out there then the citizens wouldn’t have to stand up and do the job our government isn’t doing.”
Then we agree that this is definitely a job for law enforcement.
Somewhat. I agree it SHOULD be, but it isn’t being done…so therefore the citizens do have the right to protect things themselves. We agree the government isn’t doing its job.
You know, I think we should create a group that watches the ACLU and everything they do. Let’s follow them around to every Courtroom, and meeting to just make sure they are not doing anything illegal.
Good rant Jay!
Perhaps the most ironic and hilarious thing about the ACLU’s war against the Minutemen is that the ACLU is attacking the Minutemen for doing the very thing the ACLU CLAIMS to be doing. What a fracking joke. Pardon my Battlestar Galactica reference but the show rocks. Anyhow, keep up the good work friend!
Laurence…
“Then we agree that this is definitely a job for law enforcement.”
Congress has given the money to hire the additional LE Personnel and all that Bush needs. Bush refuses to do it.
And Jay is right…if the Government won’t provide for the security of this Country, the people will.
Any fool knows that if a WMD is delivered to a major city and it is traced back to the border, Bush will be impeached. I want to know what he considers so important, that he is willing to take that risk.
Then it stands to reason that the ACLU should be there to ensure that no laws of our country are broken in the process of this enforcement. That shouldn’t be too contentious, should it?
After all, these people aren’t trained to abide by the laws of our country. Obviously they should appreciate it — the ACLU is helping them to do their militia thing within the bouds of the law.
Oh! Is that what they are doing? I thought they were Smokin doobies and helping the illegals escape across the border.
And they have the gall to try and help someone else stay within the bounds of the law?
Good argument Loboinok. Why does Bush ignore the borders? What’s the point in adding all this security at our ports if someone can just get a fake id and slip across the Mexican (or Canadian) border?
Well, if I were you, I’d definitely save my harshest critiques not for the ACLU, but for the federal gov’t. They’re the one’s at fault here — the ACLU is just picking up some of the slack — and so are the militiamen (although I can’t say I think it’s a good idea).
If is was not for the sorry ACLU our law enforcement could do a heck of a lot better job. Every time the justice system attempts to jail a criminal the ACLU steps in and trys to pertray the guilty as innocent victims of law enforcement. Why does law enforcement want to be humilated by the ACLU. Get the ACLU out of the way of law enforcement and they probably would be able to do their job. How much more tax money does the ACLU want the government to take out of our pockets. buzz off all ACLU supporters.

Spoken like a Socialist. Its the Government’s responsibility to do everything for us, give us everything we think is owed to us and then blame the Government for everything that goes wrong.
they are not OUR rights are they? It is not OUR Constitution is it? This is not OUR Country is it?
To hear some of you people talk, some would think that the people voted the ACLU a representative branch of the Government or that some President appointed them guardians of our rights and an extention of law enforcement.
They are a Socialist/communist organization, hell bent on destroying this Country by undermining our laws, Constitution and society.
Yes,it is the Governments responsibility to protect this Nation but it is also our responsibility to make sure they do the job we hired them to do and fire them when they don’t.
“Then it stands to reason that the ACLU should be there to ensure that no laws of our country are broken in the process of this enforcement.”
Including the illegal crossing of our borders?
“Including the illegal crossing of our borders?”
Looks like you got hundreds of citizens already doing that.
If the ACLU stands around watching the Minute Men to stop any lawless behavior, aren’t they engaging in the same “vigilanteism” they claim to be against? Shouldn’t they let law enforcement personnel do their job? Maybe we should go out and watch the ACLU watch the Minutemen watching the illegal border crossers…
Mak…
EXACTLY!!!
sounds like a plan.
I posted about this also, not just because of the Minutemen but because on the pages of the newspaper I quote from are several reports of vandalism, theft and murder by aliens from Mexico and Honduras. The ACLU is interested in protecting the very criminals that are destroying American owned property, stealing American assests and murdering American citizens. Why are they not outraged by the repeated violations of our citizens rights?
They may be outraged, but they are (for better or for worse) interested in preserving the rights that this country is founded on. That means not making exceptions to our laws: even when someone is a criminal and we all think they’re despicable.
I’m not saying that we’d revert to the middle ages tommorrow without oversight, but it’s not exactly out of the realm of possibility: they still happen in many countries today, out in the open. And those places aren’t crime free either (they’re certainly not places I’d like to live).
What really strikes me here is that everyone is so in favor of our human rights as law abiding Americans, but doesn’t really seem to care if anyone else is them unless they are American and law abiding. I guess I just disagree.
