Apparently, The Real Culprit In The Giffords Shooting Was…..Guns!

Now that we are a few days from the shooting of Representative Giffords, and the cold blooded murder of many others, including a judge and a 9 year old, the media and Democrats are slowly ratcheting up the meme that guns are to blame. They haven’t dropped their fixation on “vitriolic speech”…….you know, all the blamestorming coming from the mostly liberal media, elected Democrats, and liberal talking heads could be considered “vitriolic speech.” You also have Joe Scarborough, RINO, complaining. Not naming names, but, making references. Perhaps he should look toward the hours between 5-11 on his own network, first. You also have Patrick Kennedy and Michael Kinsley running for the nuttiest blamestormer award, dialing up the vitriol at the same site that Scarborough writes for.

Anyhow, is there a chance that legislation might pass restricting speech towards elected officials? Sure. And, it will be challenged in court immediately as un-Constitutional. More than likely, cooler heads will prevail, and no legislation will be voted on, because, as I said yesterday, regarding Dems pushing it “be careful what you wish for. You may get it.” Legislation would give free reign to politicians of both parties to complain to any speech or writings they “feel” are threatening or violent,” which would harm Lefties immensely. So, they are going to push hard on gun control, starting with Richard Cohen at the NY Times

I had a teacher in college who used to ask, Who discovered America? He would offer some choices. They were Amerigo Vespucci, Christopher Columbus or the Nina, the Pinta and the Santa Maria. The answer he wanted was the three ships with which eventually someone would have discovered the New World and without which everyone would have remained in Spain. It is no different with the tragedy in Tucson. Hate speech and madness were part of the mix, but it was the gun and our insane gun laws that resulted in six deaths. Until we come to grips with that, as a nation, we remain armed and dangerous.

The American culture, the American gun culture, insists on a constitutional right to bear arms – even concealed weapons such as a Glock 19 semiautomatic handgun capable of doing immense damage. A 22-year-old man, already hallucinating on the Internet, making no sense in his classes and booted from school for his strange ways, can buy such a killing device almost on the spot. If he is crazy, then so are we.

No real questions are asked of him. Do you think the government controls grammar and grammar controls the universe? Have you been babbling in class and can you hold a job? Why do you want this gun? Do you, perhaps, want to kill someone? Do you want a Glock 19 because it was one of two handguns used in the Virginia Tech massacre (32 killed, one suicide), and would you please state the name of your intended victim on the form provided? Thanks. This will just take a moment to process.

Interestingly, Richard doesn’t place the blame on the Pima County Sheriff’s Office, which gave Loughner the license. Apparently, according to the blog The Cholla Jumps, the PCS has had quite a bit of contact with Loughner, including…..death threats! But, we must blame guns, rather than the people who use them, and could have used a knife instead. Or a homemade bomb, which could have killed as many, if not more than a gun. Let’s outlaw bombs….oh, they are, and people still use them, despite being outlawed.

And then there is our unhinged buddy Eugene Robinson at the Washington Post

We may not be sure that the bloodbath in Tucson had anything to do with politics, but we know it had everything to do with our nation’s insane refusal to impose reasonable controls on guns.

Specifically, the rampage had everything to do with a 9mm semiautomatic Glock pistol – a sleek, efficient killing machine that our lax gun laws allowed an unstable young man to purchase, carry anywhere and ultimately use to shoot Rep. Gabrielle Giffords in the head. The weapon also was used to shoot 19 bystanders, killing six of them, including a federal judge and a 9-year-old girl.

The accused gunman, 22-year-old Jared Lee Loughner, appears to be deranged. But this fact does not automatically absolve the politicians, partisan activists and professional loudmouths who spew apocalyptic anti-government rhetoric full of violent imagery. Certainly only someone “unbalanced” would spray a crowd with deadly gunfire. Only someone on the fringe – of society, of sanity – might conceivably hear a slogan such as “Don’t Retreat, Instead – RELOAD!” and think it not a stirring political metaphor but a direct order.

Wow, he managed to both blame guns and gun laws along with blame of Sarah Palin. A vitriolic double shot!

Expect the focus of the media and Democrat officials to move much more towards gun control, and doing what they typically do: overreach. Even the NRA doesn’t want guns in the hands of wackos. There would be nothing wrong with tightening the background checks, so that people like Loughner wouldn’t be able to easily get a license from the Sheriff of Pima County. If Dems are smart, that is what they will push. I’d suspect it isn’t as easy for non-criminal elements to get illegal guns as some think. I’d have no idea how to go about getting one. But Dems and the media will surely push massive restrictions on the guns themselves, denying access to non-criminal citizens. That’s what they do, and, they will not let a good crisis go to waste.

I read that Cohen piece last night. I commented that he and anyone else who blames the gun for the actions of the shooter are all just as insane as the shooter …

If I were a criminal I would be in favor of strict gun control laws. If they are enacted, all law abiding citizens would adhere to them. I on the other hand have no respect for the law so it wouldn’t apply to me. I would be able to practice my trade with a greater sense of safety knowing that when I enter a home with my gun to rob, rape and kill, I would not be shot and would always have the upper hand. Please push for more strict gun control laws. Criminals deserve a safe work enviorment just like anyone else.
