Saturday Important: 50 Beers To Try Before You Die
It may be Saturday, yet another day where Obama has lied (wait, NPR called him on it?), but, let’s think about what is really important in our lives
You’ve heard of “100 Bottles of Beer on the Wall”?
How about 50 to try before you die?!
Call it the bucket list of beer.
GQ magazine put together a list of 50 beers from around the world all beer enthusiasts need to try before they die.
GQ’s style editor, Adam Rapoport, narrowed down that list and, along with co-anchor Harry Smith, sampled Rapoport’s top half-dozen. All six are readily available across the country, and inexpensive.
Rapoport’s top six:
Allagash White
Ommegang Hennepin
Oskar Blues Dale Pale Ale
Redenbach Grand Cru
Anchor Steam
Samuel Smith Oatmeal Stout
Sounds like a great challenge. I’ve had Anchor Steam and Sam Adams Oatmeal stout. Altogether, I’ve only had about 7 of the beers on the list. Time to get busy!
Personally, my favorite is Carolina Pale Ale. What’s your favorite?

Thanks for this. I’ve tried 15 of these. I must say that Dead Guy Ale, Boston Chocolate Stout, and Founders KBS are all excellent. Magic Hat and Dogfish Head are good too. Good luck finding the Sam Adams Utopias. At 25% alcohol it can’t be sold in many states, and it’s limited time seasonal. It’s also very expensive. You can get about a double shot for $25. If you’re ever in Boston, look for it if you have some money to blow. I’ve been looking for Harviestoun Old Engine Oil, and Russian River’s Pliny the Elder. I’ve heard a lot of good things about these two. I haven’t found them around where I live yet. I’m also hoping that come Christmas time, I can try the Anchor Christmas Ale.
my regular is Arrogant Bastard by Stone Brewing, but i doubt if anyone here can handle it.
Oh, that’s your regular? I’ve handled it before, and it wasn’t bad. It isn’t my favorite taste-wise though. There are plenty of strong, high alcohol beers out there that taste better than that one. My favorite beer is from a micro-brewery in PA called Troegs. It is a seasonal, 11%, brewed with cherries and honey. It is their Christmas time beer. It’s called Mad Elf. Delicious stuff.
