“Establishment Clause” Deciphered

America was created by our Founding Fathers, a group of strikingly intelligent men. As they wrestled with the leviathan task of penning the documents that would lay the foundation for a sovereign constitutional republic, they used their brilliant minds to write as concisely, as clearly, and as succinctly as they could. Proof of this can be found in the relative brevity of our Constitution. That a document so comparatively short could contain such previously unimaginable gravitas as to guide what would become the greatest, most prosperous nation on the face of Earth for more than two centuries surely proves their genius.

There was concern among them, upon having finished a draft of the Constitution, that not enough had been scripted to ensure and preserve the individual liberties so very important to all of them. This unanimous concern caused them to pen the Bill of Rights, which included the First Amendment. The First Amendment to the Constitution reads as follows:

“Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.”

Had it been the Founders’ intention to create an additional verse which specifically prohibited government from in any way mixing with religion, these brilliant men would not have relied upon a tortured interpretation of the First Amendment, coupled with the improbable hope that Thomas Jefferson might one day write a letter to the Danville Baptists. In fact, to believe that this was in fact the Founders intent expresses a level of galling ignorance which transcends simple stupidity, and borders on either insanity… or a particularly vile deceit.

Quite simply, our Constitution contains no “wall of separation between church and state” for the simple reason that no such wall of separation was ever envisioned or intended by the Founders. It was our first president, George Washington who created the holiday (Holy Day) of Thanksgiving as a day when all Americans should ‘fall down on their knees and pray with gratitude to Almighty God for his provision in securing for us all a sovereign and free nation.’ If you question this, and I encourage you to do so, simply Google “Washington’s Thanksgiving Proclamation.”

Once you have done that, it becomes immediately and indisputably obvious that the great and brilliant men who gave birth to this mighty nation had absolutely no intention that there would ever be a wall of separation between church and state. John Adams, the founder credited by many as having written most of the Constitution, once said that our Constitution is intended only for a moral and religious people, and that it is wholly unfit for any other: for if a man will not obey God’s laws how could we expect him to obey man’s laws?

Which brings us back to the First Amendment. Remember, the men who wrote this were absolutely brilliant, and they relied not only upon their own intellect, but regularly interrupted the Constitutional Congress for sessions of prayer during which they beseeched Almighty God for His divine inspiration in the writing of these documents. Keeping that in mind, look at the first sentence:

“Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof”

Had it been their intention to prevent future legislatures from enacting any law respecting “the” establishment [verb] of “an official State” religion, that is what they would have said. Instead, they wrote “an establishment [noun] of religion.” In this context, the word “establishment”is used as a noun and not a verb. Progressives have made much hay, and done unimaginable damage to our American way of life, by pretending that a “gray area exists” where in fact the matters before us were black and white.

Let’s look at the entire first line now, and insert what the Progressives (and the ACLU) would have us believe the Founders’ really meant:

“Congress shall make no law respecting the establishment of an official State religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof”

Really? Our Founders meant to say that Congress can neither legislate an official State Religion, nor can they prevent us from freely practicing it? Please, does that make any sense at all? Any?

Of course, if we do not misinterpret the First Amendment or pretend that it means something other than what it does, then we cannot also feign that it was the Founders’ intent to wait and hope for Thomas Jefferson to write a letter to a church in Connecticut so that we might understand their otherwise invisible desire for a “wall of separation.” It is through this devious mechanism of disingenuous misinterpretation that liberals, and progressives, and the ACLU have foisted upon the American public a myth which they created out of whole cloth, and to which we now refer as “The Establishment Clause.”

The brave men and women who left England to create a new life here in America did so because their oppressive government was dictating to them how they should worship. Our First Amendment proscribed Congress from mentioning, touching upon, referring to, or trying to influence in any way how or if Americans chose to worship. We did not want our elected officials opining on religion. Period.

Not whether our children prayed in school. Not whether Judges displayed the Ten Commandments in their courtrooms. Not whether we placed the baby Jesus on the town common at Christmastime. That our government now does so is in direct defiance of the explicit intent of the First Amendment. Those who swore to uphold and defend that living, breathing heart of our Nation from all enemies, foreign and domestic, have abdicated their duty, broken their oath, and committed Treason against America at her most vital core; the Christian heart of this country.

The Tea Party rallies across America speak of an awakened electorate, newly attentive to the shenanigans taking place within the Beltway and beyond. Never in my lifetime has the political mood and climate been so focused. As we tighten our grasp on the fact that our judges, legislators, and president only legitimately govern with the consent of the governed, we must also remain aware of this most insidious truth.

D.C. is now run virtually exclusively by liberal “Progressives.” Progressives frequently use terms and descriptions which are the exact opposite of their intent. This is no accident. It is a despicable ploy used to confuse the general public, and to lay down a smokescreen designed to hide their actual agenda. For instance, if a group of liberals (Progressives) want to create an organization that encourages women to abort their unborn children, and assist them in the brutal destruction of this most sacred parental bond, they might call it “Planned Parenthood.”

We can no longer afford to let the extremists define the agenda, or allow the lunatics to run the asylum. When and where we catch the deceivers trying to pull a fast one, we must let it be known that we see through their disingenuous canard, and will no longer stand for it. The “ACLU” purports to stand up for the rights and liberties of Americans, despite their oxymoronic assaults on Christians and our most defenseless Americans, the unborn.

Most of all, let us no longer be fooled by an immoral and distinctly un-American cabal of agents provocateur simply because they have the brazen “Progressive” temerity to call themselves the “American Civil Liberties Union.” There should be a law against such deceit.

Thank you for your very enlightening explanation of the Establishment Clause.I am now reading a book by David Limbaugh titled “Persecution”.It goes into detail concerning how our public schools, colleges and government have been taken over by “Progressives”.Christians are routinely attacked for their beliefs, they are denied benefits that atheists enjoy, and are being legislated into silence.I have taken an oath to do whatever I can do to return our country to the foundations that it was built on.And one of them is certainly not demonizing Christians while supporting non-believers.If there is anything I can do to help you just let me know.God bless

Anthony James, I must say that I have just read a remarkable and very well put together article on a subject that makes me so mad I find myself tongue-tied.You are very articulate and right on the target on a subject that I have had with friends and basically said, albeit not as well, as what you have written.Keep up the good work and may God bless you.
