ACLU Absent on Constitutional Violations of Obamacare
Where is the ACLU, those guardians of the Constitution now that there is an actual threat to it? Herbert Meyer wonders where the defenders of privacy are now.
When George W. Bush was president, the ACLU and its liberal allies were driven nearly berserk by the possibility that the FBI might know what library books Americans had borrowed. Under the terms of the health care legislation that President Obama signed into law earlier today, the IRS will have access to all of our most intimate medical records — and not one peep from the ACLU or anyone else on the Democratic(sic) side of the aisle in either the House or the Senate.
It is also very likely that the individual mandates are unconstitutional, and many states are suing on these grounds. The government is forcing individuals to purchase something. It is unprecedented and the Constitution doesn’t grant them this power. However, the ACLU are completely silent about this too.
But hey, they are aren’t completely silent about healthcare overall. They are upset the bill didn’t include public funding for abortions!
While the bill signed by the president today contains positive changes to health care policies that discriminate against women and provides women with access to needed and often life-saving health care services, it also restricts abortion coverage, creating hurdles for both the insurer that wants to include abortion care in its health plan and the insured who wants the coverage. The president, in a move meant to garner the votes of Democrats who oppose abortion rights, also signed an Executive Order today to ensure that current law prohibiting public funding of abortion also applied to any subsidies used to purchase insurance in the exchange.
How obvious do we have to make it that the ACLU are a partisan organization with a dangerous agenda that should be stripped of their tax exempt status? They aren’t interested in actually defending the Constitution. They want to destroy American sovereignty, expand international law, and defend America’s enemies.
