Hayworth Challenges McCain for his Seat

How far has the grassroots of conservatism spread? We may find out if they are spreading in Arizona, as conservative talk show host J.D. Hayworth quit his radio show and announced he will challenge moderate John McCain for his long held Senate seat.

Former Arizona Congressman J.D. Hayworth says he is planning to run against John McCain for his U.S. Senate seat.
Hayworth, a Republican, told The Associated Press late Friday he stepped down as host of his radio program on KFYI-AM, a conservative radio talk show in Phoenix. Legally, he would not have been able to remain host of the program and be an active candidate. …
“We will formally announce at a later time, but we’re moving forward to challenge John McCain,” he said. “I think we all respect John. I think his place in history is secure. But after close to a quarter-century in Washington, it’s time for him to come home.”

One thing is for sure… Hayworth will need to raise some cash to beat McCain who already has $5 million in the bank and running attack ads against Hayworth already. Hayworth says:

“I think we all respect John. I think his place in history is secure. But after close to a quarter-century in Washington, it’s time for him to come home.”

I completely agree, and my hat goes in the ring for J.D. McCain’s wishy washy stances have left him washed up. McCain is leading in the polls against Hayworth right now, but it is still early. I don’t know how realistic a successful challenge against McCain is but if anyone should do it, why not someone with credentials like Hayworth’s?

For some reason Sarah Palin has chosen to soil her reputation of rallying for the conservative choice by choosing loyalty of some kind instead. It has left many bewildered.

Tea Party activists are rightly outraged by Sarah Palin’s decision to campaign for McCain, whose entrenched incumbency and progressive views are anathema to the movement. At least she has an excuse: She’s caught between a loyalty rock and a partisan hard place. The conservative base has no such obligations – and it is imperative that they get in the game (as they did in Massachusetts) before it’s too late. The movement to restore limited government in Washington has come too far, against all odds, to succumb to McCain Regression Syndrome now.

Maggie:

Sarah, if [you] are a true conservative, get out of the McCain camp. He is no conservative hero. This is not the time for a very nice lady to help because she was asked to help the man who left her under the bus of his wayward presidential race. What are you thinking? We counted on you to support conservatism, not friendship. We will not forget this. Running as his Vice-President is one thing. Campaigning for him is another. This will hurt your future, whatever that may be.

Ed Morrissey:

Hayworth will still be a long shot, but primaries are a hygienic device that keeps incumbents accountable for their performance. In this case, the campaign promises to be a long one; the primary election will be held on August 24th. That gives almost exactly seven months for Hayworth and McCain to make their cases to the voters of Arizona, and they will be the biggest beneficiaries of the process.

It’s ultimately up to Arizona. You want more reaching across the aisle and grabbing of ankles or someone with a 98% score from the ACU? wishy washy or solid? Isn’t it about time McCain settle down and retire his old ideas?

I wish that Sarah would stay out of this fight, McCain has been a pain in Arizona a** for the last few years. He wants the illegal to e give citizenship and we here in Arizona passed a law to stop it here! We do not want illegals here and the government is trying to get our sheriff out of office and John McCain has done nothing to help him.
This is what you need to remind the people here in Arizona about the backing John McCain is giving the Sheriff!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
