Janet Napolitano: “The system worked”?!

How does she figure that the system worked?!

Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano said Sunday that the thwarting of the attempt to blow up an Amsterdam-Detroit airline flight Christmas Day demonstrated that “the system worked.”

Asked by CNN’s Candy Crowley on “State of the Union” how that could be possible when the young Nigerian who has been charged with trying to set off the bomb was able to smuggle explosive liquid onto the jet, Napolitano responded: “We’re asking the same questions.”

Napolitano added that there was “no suggestion that [the suspect] was improperly screened.”

What?! You have got to be seriously insane to think that this is a demonstration of how “the system worked”. Someone on a terror watch list was able to get a US visa. They were able to board a plane with 80 grams of explosives strapped to his underwear. They were able to nearly detonate those explosives… but a faulty detonator saved the lives of several hundred passengers. Yet Napolitano says that he wasn’t improperly screened and that the system worked.

Hey, questions for you, Napolitano. If he was properly screened, how was he able to get explosives onto the airplane? If he was on a terror watch list, how could he get a visa? If he was on a no-fly list, how could he fly into the United States? His father even warned the Embassy about him last month. There was no thwarting of the terrorist — the bomb failed. The system doesn’t work.

If this woman thinks that the Christmas Day attack is an example of the system working, then Obama should fire her immediately. And concerned as he is about our national security, I’m sure he’ll do just that immediately.

Oh, wait…

Just heard a few minutes ago that he was booted from Britain and not allowed back in. This woman is an idiot.

    Open borders, uber alles!

Every mooooslim (and Mexican) in the world, has a God-given right to “migrate” to the United States. Why we’re racists if we impose even the slightest reduction in immigration, even in a recession with 10% (and rising) unemployment. Yet the political class and their allies in the MSM, proclaim -

    “There shall be open borders….”

Janet Napolitano is what we call a “useful idiot” who has far exceeded the outside norms of the “Peter Principle.” The question that begs to be answered is why? Was it her support of Obama and he responded by giving her this spot like it was an ambassadorship? It really is an important position to just hand off to the first dunce that comes along.

So what’s the deal? As I say in my post, maybe it is important to the administration to have someone weak and incompetent in such an important position. They have a plan, we don’t know what it is past what we see. Maybe it is as simple as they want to control the department through her. Or maybe they want to be able to use the power of the department at some point in the future, for example as a way to identify “terrorists” Obama sees in our midst.

One thing for sure, she’s a mess, and should be replaced. If she’s not, then it proves they want her for something and it isn’t her great intelligence or insight.

    Spooky.

I seriously doubt any of you wingnut, loud-mouthed, gasbags were in such an uproar when the Bush administration failed to see the signs of the 9-11 hijackers and their plans…of which he was warned beforehand. Keep drinking your koolaid wingnuts, for your lunacy is more exposed every day.

    @Beavis,

Another liberal reduced to nashing of teeth and foaming at the mouth name calling. So by your thought process we should all sit quietly by and say nothing? Am I right?

Beavis … what an appropriate name….

Considering the fact that the Department of Homeland Security didn’t even EXIST at the time 9/11 happened, I find it difficult to buy into your argument. If you’ll remember, after 9/11, a lot of people, including George Bush, WERE questioning how our intelligence system had failed us, and the result was the establishment of the Department of Homeland Security. Now, after all these years, can’t we expect it to be FUNCTIONING and doing the job it was created to do? Blaming Bush, which has become a VERY tired argument, doesn’t change the fact that Janet Napolitano clearly failed to get the job done, and from recent comments, appears to lack even a basic understanding of the situation. Claiming that this attack was “stopped” and that the “system functioned” is ludicrous. I suppose she would have made the same claim if the bomb had gone off and they had successfully cleaned up the 300 bodies that were scattered all over Detroit. Don’t make this into a left vs. right issue. This has to do with competence vs. incompetence. She should be replaced immediately with someone who understands the threat we face and has the skills and knowledge necessary to get the job done. While we’re at it, we should probably also replace the guy who hired her. He obviously failed to adequately examine her qualifications. Oh, that would be Obama wouldn’t it? You won’t see him taking any responsibility for this, and I seriously doubt that he will have the stones to fire Janet Napolitano until she fails us again. Let’s hope that when that happens, we won’t be watching television footage of a major American city in ruins …

Meanwhile, despite her claims to the contrary, it is NOT safe to fly today, nor will it be safe any time soon. Our struggling air transportation businesses have taken a big hit this weekend, and you can expect to see more airlines failing, more satellite businesses wiped out, and more jobs lost. Hope and change? Not exactly what I had in mind. You?
