White House Threatens to Close Offutt Air Force Base If Nelson Doesn’t Vote for Obamacare
Quite an explosive leak! I wonder how this will affect things? It is certainly a thuggish and dangerous thing for Obama to play with National Security over this craptacular idea of socialized medicine. Quite a desperate move.
According to a Senate aide, the White House is now threatening to put Nebraska’s Offutt Air Force Base on the BRAC list if Nelson doesn’t fall into line.
Offutt Air Force Base employs some 10,000 military and federal employees in Southeastern Nebraska. As our source put it, this is a “naked effort by Rahm Emanuel and the White House to extort Nelson’s vote.” They are “threatening to close a base vital to national security for what?” asked the Senate staffer.
Indeed, Offutt is the headquarters for US Strategic Command, the successor to Strategic Air Command, and not by accident. STRATCOM was located in the middle of the country for strategic reasons. Its closure would be a massive blow to the economy of the state of Nebraska, but it would also be another example of this administration playing politics with our national security.
So much for the idea of Obama trying to save jobs and improve the economy!
Without Nelson’s vote, since all Republicans are still in line to oppose this, Reid is still left with 59 votes. So, some arm twisting is taking place. Nelson doesn’t want this bill to fund abortions so he is now being threatened, and national security along with him. How shameful this would be if Democrats felt shame.
The Obama administration has little left to use for leverage. Why not national security? After all, if we’re going to bring terrorists into Illinois, what does it matter if we put the US Strategic Command on wheels for a few years?
What a nightmare!

Something about this sounds suspiciously like “high crimes and misdemeanors” or TREASON.
As a SAC bomber mechanic for 6 years, I got up every morning bowed down toward Omaha and said 3 Allahs to Lemay. I was totally Sacumcised.
I can guarantee if the good(and gruff) general were alive today, he’d jerk a knot in the ballerina’s tail and probably that little boy’s in the White House, just for fun.
I guess it’s up to Nelson to show that he has the cojones to stand up for justice. Get on television right now in high dudgeon and tell Nebraskans that their president is about to punish them for not legalizing government control of everything.
He should very loudly DARE Obama to shut that base.

So, PA, once something is exposed and the cover-up commences you’ll believe the cover lie? I have no problem believing the truth of this. Isn’t it a shame that the possibility of that exists? The fact that, true or not, it’s so easy to believe?
As an retired AF member, even the threat is treason in my book…you don’t mess with the security of the nation for political! impeach this thug-in-chief and prosecute him for high crimes against the nation if this is true and it seems to be coming from a number of reliable sources…
As a proud Nebraskan, I e-mailed Senator Nelson and asked him not to cave-in to this blackmail. I also told him that I had been a lifelong Democrat until a few years ago. Alas, the likes of Pelosi, Reid, Frank, Dodd, Gore, Kerry, H.Dean, Edwards, and a myriad of others are not representative of my father’s Democratic Party. So, I registered as a Republican, and I encouraged Senator Nelson to do the same! In Nebraska, there would be no political fallout for that. The vast majority of Nebraskans are Republicans.
Why should any of us be forced to have this shoved down our throats? We need to get rid of this Abomination.

Don’t buy it. Being from Nebraska this is all smoke. Until recently the very memory of Bob Kerry had given Democrats a bad name in Nebraska through his voting record. Add that with Chuck “Amnesty” Hagel turning left as Karl Marx driving at Talledega speedway and you have serious “Trust issues” with government . In a conservative state like Nebraska Nelson desperately needs to look the part of a hero in voting for this dog of a health care plan/Or taking the blame so this can get restarted with more radical reforms. And the only way he gets that done is by looking to be St. Ben the valiant champion of the unborn who went 15 rounds with Obama himself.. Oooh, Ahh. The abortion issue is already off the table. Senator Nelson should not stand for any intimidation. should not keep anything from the media if this actually happened. he should not be protecting his party or the president because national security is far more important and barack HUSSEIN obama or rahm-bo deadfish ( AS HANNITY likes to call him)
Everyone should call Nelson’s offices and demand answers. They should also blast him for supporting the stupidity that is the health care bill.

Obama will do and say anything to destroy this country. He is dangerous, in so many ways, to the longevity of the US as a world power. He needs to be removed as soon as possible.
The White House denied the story and Senator Nelson denied the story. Fox and the Standard have an unnamed blogger as their source and no other source or conformation. I understand you all hate the President and maybe now Senator Nelson, and all of that is fine if that is how you feel, but to use a debunked story that has no creditable sources seems to only self-serve and to make the those who hate the President and indirectly the majority who voted for him and still support him look weak and unprincipled.

Nelson, too, forcefully denied the story.
“My vote cannot be bought and I cannot be threatened,” he said, according to the Journal-Star. “If I had been threatened, I would have gone public with it. My vote is not for sale. Period.”
Nelson called the reports “yellow journalism at its worst.”
For anyone who thinks this threat is not true, less than an hour ago Nelson confirmed it was true on national television.
For anyone who thinks the president cannot close the airbase himself; it just doesn’t matter…..the fact of the threat alone once again shows where Obama stands or doesn’t stand and that is whatever gets what he wants. This bill is the power needed to control every American. It is the beginning of a “Chavez” America. Decades past social programs has put us in line for Obama and company to push us over the edge. The exploding nightmare lay ahead. It is time people realize who and what Obama is and hopes to become.
When I called his office this morning, the receptionist said there was going to be an investigation. Why investigate if there is not some chance of it being true?????
What news TV show did Senator Nelson appear on to say it was true? All the major news outlets have him quoted as saying it is not true.
Sen. Mike Johanns who called for the investigation said “When Senator Nelson says it didn’t happen, I trust Senator Nelson. I have no reason not to trust him,”
Calling for an investigation is standard operating procedure in D.C. there is a chance it is true but since the source is an unnamed aide and it appears to be very doubtful on the surface why are most of you so ready to condemn the President and others? If this happened under a conservative administration would you really have the same views? I don’t agree that these sort of rumors should be spread as truth or even partial truth no matter who is attacked from Ms. Palin to President Obama, don’t you agree?

Bob 2 you are missing the real point here. Whether you believe it’s true or not, the fact that it’s even a possibility is an outrage. Never in my lifetime have I ever heard of anything like this before, and it’s not just this instance, there are “rumors” of it happening to many other senators or elected officals. The government is supposed to serve the people, not the people serve the government. This administration is pissing all over The Constitution of the U.S.
