Levi Johnston: Sarah Palin called Trig “retarded”

Even the CBS News reporter, Maggie Gonzalez, is skeptical of Levi’s claims. In this interview, he says that Sarah Palin called Trig retarded repeatedly, and that he has “huge” thing he could reveal about her. But aw, how sweet — he doesn’t want to hurt her… that much.

First of all, it says a lot to me that even Ms. Gonzalez doesn’t buy his claim, at least not about Trig. It says a lot about how much his credibility is diminishing. He may never have had much credibility with conservatives, but the mainstream media bought everything he was selling, and they did so enthusiastically. And some of what he has said isn’t completely unbelievable. Sarah Palin knew that he and Bristol were sexually active? OK, that’s believable. She and Todd fought sometimes and even discussed divorce? I can buy that. What couple doesn’t fight? My own parents got separated once and had talked about divorce. They certainly fought a lot growing up. But they’re still married to this day. What he’s said before is not out of the realm of possibility. But when he starts saying that Sarah Palin would come home from work and ask, “Where’s my retarded baby?”, it starts getting hard to believe. When it’s even hard to believe for mainstream media reporters, who are eager to report anything that makes Sarah look bad, it should really say something. By his own admission he has no proof, and given how we’ve seen Sarah Palin talk about Trig and act towards Trig, it seems extremely unlikely that he’s telling the truth.
He’s also saying now that, at the Republican National Convention, he was just playing a part. That’s not something I would say if I were Levi — because at the convention, he looked like a mature, classy, capable young man, one who was committed to his girlfriend and his soon-to-be-born child. By saying that it was all just an act, and right before he poses in Playgirl, no less, what is he telling us? That he’s a stupid, classless hick who’s out to get money and notoriety at any cost possible? That’s not going to help with his credibility, either, but apparently Levi’s not smart enough to think that one all the way through (big surprise).
Bristol, on the other hand, still seems to be the same beautiful, classy, family-oriented girl she was during the election. Tellingly, she’s remained quiet about all of this. She hasn’t stooped to his level. And by his own admission, she doesn’t speak to him about everything he’s been saying about her family when they have to see or speak to each other about their baby. While he tries to put some kind of conspiratorial spin on it — it must be Sarah Palin cooking up some evil plan to get revenge!!!! — it simply seems to me that Bristol has a lot of something that Levi Johnston will never understand: class, dignity, and integrity. Levi clearly has none.
Sarah Palin, meanwhile, has fired back at Johnston:
We have purposefully ignored the mean spirited, malicious and untrue attacks on our family. We, like many, are appalled at the inflammatory statements being made or implied. Trig is our ‘blessed little angel’ who knows it and is lovingly called that every day of his life. Even the thought that anyone would refer to Trig by any disparaging name is sickening and sad. CBS should be ashamed for continually providing a forum to propagate lies. Consider the source of the most recent attention-getting lies — those who would sell their body for money reflect a desperate need for attention and are likely to say and do anything for even more attention.
What’s sad and disgusting is that Levi seems to be doing this because he says the Palins hurt him somehow. But if my memory serves me accurately, he was the one who sold them out first; he was the one speaking out to the media saying harmful things first. And because she had the audacity to respond, it means that he has the so-called right to do what he’s doing and say what he’s saying. It frankly is pathetic. He’s trying to paint himself as some kind of victim here, but all the while he’s stabbing the people who put him in the public eye to begin with in the back. It says a lot more about him than it does about the Palins, and I think that even the mainstream media is starting to see that.

I dunno.
I’m about the same age as Mrs. Palin, and one of my brothers is, well, I think the current PC term is “developmentally challenged.” But when I was growing up, “retarded” was a very common term, and it was not always an insult like it is now. Whether or not “retarded” was offensive depended on context.
I don’t find it inconceivable that, at home, she might not take special care to always use the Politically Correct ™ term.
Levi Johnson has some real problems. I think he’s looking for acceptance. If he and Bristol had relationship problems, he should have tried harder to work them out or turned to God in prayer for help. He didn’t do either of these things. So when his relationship with Bristol faltered, he ended up feeling rejected, and not knowing what to do about it.
The anti-Palin crowd smelled blood, and reached out to him, hoping to get some juicy gossip out of him on the Palins. Levi mistakenly thinks these people are his friends now. He’s transfered his loyalty to his new friends.
What he’s going to sadly discover is that these people are NOT his friends. They just want to use him to get at Sarah Palin. Meanwhile he’s burning his bridges behind him with the Palin family.
It would have been better if he’d stayed loyal to the Palins, and not talked about them after things went wrong (except to a therapist maybe). As it is, Levi Johnson is a young man who lacks the wisdom that years bring. He’s looking for love in all the wrong places and it will come back to haunt him in the end.
Levi needs to experience a ‘Blanket Party’… but then so does the entire current administration.
Because that is how you treat your own child’s grandmother.

Why do you ALWAYS defend Palin? There could be truth in what Levi is saying about her.
Funny how he admits that the Palins kind of had concerns about his character and were not too thrilled about his relationship with their daughter. Judging by the actions I’ve seen from him, gossiping and spreading wild rumors, it’s safe to say I think the Palins were right. As the mother of a child with Down’s Syndrome, I refer to my child as retarded occasionally, because he is. He’s slower at learning most basic functions than the general population. There are times everyone acts a little retarded. I don’t know why some people are so offended by that word. Lighten up! Really that’s all it is, a word.
This guy is a product of the mainstream media. Misguided and confused and a vacuous space where morality should reside. The liberals can have him.
I believe he was playing a part during the convention. I saw such an uncomfortable demeanor. I knew right from the start there would be no marriage, and things were being “made pretty” for all to see.
I agree with Cindy .. in the privacy of her home, she probably did say it, in an endearing way.
Remember when George Bush 41 referred to his 1/2 latino grandkids as ‘the brown ones’ ??? same thing…

Sarah just continues to dig her own political grave by laying any blame at the feet of a gossip mongering boy. Who cares what he claims that she’s said. The smartest thing she could do is roll her eyes and carry on. But she can’t because she’s a serious narcissistic. Can you imagine any other politician responding to something that an adolescent said about them? People are paying attention to him but would not give him much more than a bemused moment if Palin didn’t respond to everything that he says. That’s just knee-jerk and… well, unprofessional and certainly not adult. Sarah’s a car wreck of a person and a politician. Levi is a kid. She’s a supposed grown-up.
It’s hard to take her seriously as a candidate for anything – excepting that she incites with her hate rhetoric, she’s sub-par intellectually and her supporters are not critical thinkers. That is the ONLY reason that any progressive person pays attention to her. She’s dangerous in her own way… know thy (political) enemy.

Don’t you find it interesting that the negative comments here are really non sequiturs to the topic of the post? I mean your commenters cannot defend the behavior of this knucklehead, so they shift the topic back to Sarah.
So, keeping that in mind, I’d sure like any one of them to justify their position by articulating something that is so disagreeable with Sarah other than ‘because she talks funny.’ I have family and friends in Alaska, and the support for Sarah, even after she resigned as governor is overwhelming.
During the final days of the presidential campaign, I was receiving emails from former Hillary supporters who were supporting Sarah for the simple reason that she is a professionally successful woman who can clearly state her position, and then back her position with specific non-compromising actions.
Further, if Sarah is such an idiot, please explain why her book ‘Going Rogue’ has sold over 2 million copies before its November 17th release date, and why she gets $100,000 for speaking engagement. (That rivals Bill Clinton!)
Frankly, the only reason I can see why these cockroaches hate her so much is because in light of her success and integrity, they scurry under the frig for fear that their own shortcomings will be exposed, perpetuating the real climate of hate.
