Why Do Hampton U’s Black Students Hate White People?
-By Warner Todd Huston
Hampton University in Virginia made a huge mistake. They took Barack Obama’s post racial world idea and, thinking it was already here, anointed a white chick as its “Miss Hampton University” pageant winner. Now some of the black students are mad that the traditionally black university named a white girl as “Miss Hampton U.”
Ooopsie.
I guess we aren’t in that era of Obama like we thought we were. I guess we aren’t quite done with all that racial strife that we keep hearing about on the news, eh? I hate it when the man… er, the bro… is always keeping the white chicks down! Can’t we just get along?
On a serious note, I think we should demand that the heartless, racist students of Hampton University be forced to endure “diversity training” or face expulsion. This sort of hate should be excoriated. And now that Congress has made such hate crimes even more hatey than before, thanks to its new hate crimes legislation, I certainly expect some of these racist students, these hatemongers at Hampton U, to go to jail.
Why’s it gotta be like that, man?

Although I’m not a Hampton student or ever attended an HBC, my following comment may not hold water but here goes. I suspect this argument is not against living in a “post-racial” era but more with preserving heritage and tradition. These colleges exist for a reason, otherwise we would just go to any ol’ state public school. These years especially, black communities have become so fragmented that havens to promote collective efforts to succeed without outside intervention is even more called for.
“Diversity” destroys this. Is it racist? Perhaps, but not hateful. There’s a difference and make no mistake, everyone is and will always be racist. But not everyone is or should be hateful.
Oh god the blacks shouldn’t feel superior just because of Obama. They’re not the president. Racism kills.

I am a HU student, and I would just like to say that a lot of what went on with Miss Hampton had nothing to do with the color of her skin. The problem most people had with her election was that she attended a satellite campus of the school and most students had no idea who this girl was. She was chosen by a panel of judges to represent the student body, but most of the student body had never even seen her before. We questioned her knowledge of HU’s culture, questioned if she was anything like those of us who attend Hampton University proper.
What is little known is that Mr Pirate, Miss Hampton’s male counterpart was not Africa-American either (i believe he is of caucasian and asian decent), but no one had an issue with him because he is a prominent face around campus. In short, the issue had nothing to do with the color of her skin, and more to do with the election of someone we felt did not attend our campus and may not be able to properly represent the student body
hello loves! oh Im so happy michael said that…although I dont know you…its ridiculous how far out of hand the perception of this is getting isnt it? I also attend Hampton University and I attended the MISS Hampton Pageant show. It was nice and the ladies looked really amazing! Nikole Churchill (current miss. hampton u) was the tallest/most modelesque and certainly was the most graceful. Also she has been in pageants before and had a few things going for her that she mentioned, which is more than likely what put her over the top. The panel of judges that decided do not go to hampton, i think they were from some other state competition and only one was in administration here. lastly, Nikole goes to the VAbeach school so when she came on the stage….no-one knew who she was! Naturally everyone votes for their friends so when no-one’s friend won…it was frustrating i guess. honestly i didnt know anyone or care one way or another but i overheard conversations…so then when it was all over people were outside talking about how unfair it was, and how we should have a say in the actual voting process (the students). so she wrote a letter to obama saying she felt descriminated against…he wrote one back saying look within yourself and that he doubts she was descriminated against…then she wrote another one apologizing to th public for exaggerating the situation…no one seriously cared THAT much. honestly people were talking about it for maybe a week. im surprised i even remember these details.
what alot of people dont understand is tha majority of the students here went to mixed or majority white schools and live in mixed neighborhoods. if we study social structure’s we see that affluent neighborhoods are not predominatly black. and the students here have a decent amount of money…in any case Nikole is Hawiaan not white, which is why she wrote to President Obama. Dont be so dramatic.
sometimes people look for inequality’s which is what happened with this really dramatic post…and Nikole’s first statement to the press. In anycase the university LOVES her and she’s really involved and students know her more now because of that involvement.

p.s. its offensive to say “the blacks” it sounds objective…like objects/things/not humans…its historical doesnt really matter..just dont say lol. say ‘black people or black folks’ and you’ll be doing yourself justice not to contradict the second statement of ‘racism kills’ … words matter!
why did they do that?????????????
