Michigan Authorities Attack Woman for Babysitting Neighbor Kids

-By Warner Todd Huston

You read that headline right. A woman who was watching her neighbor’s kids each school morning for 40 minutes before the bus came is being accused of being a criminal by the State of Michigan.

It takes a village, right? Remember when you were a kid and the next door neighbor looked after you for an hour or so until your parents got back from shopping or work? Remember when your neighbor might even pick you up from school at one time or another? Remember that your parents returned the favor whenever it was necessary? Remember when neighbors felt a responsibility to each other? Well thank God we don’t have to rely on friends and neighbors any more. After all, we have the glorious state to take care of us now. We have our fathers and mothers in government to watch out for us. Who needs neighbors?

This is what has happened in the people’s state of Michigan where a kindly maternal woman is being ground under the iron boot heel of authorities from the State of Michigan because she dared to watch her neighbor’s children for about 40 minutes before school each weekday in violation of the state’s child daycare center registration laws.

Shockingly this poor woman is being threatened by the goosesteppers of the child welfare department of what should be the Badger State instead of Wolverine — that would be more apt in this case — because she did not get a childcare license for watching her neighbor’s kids for the 40 minutes before the bus arrives each morning.

Folks we have at last come to a decision point.

We have allowed our various governments from the smallest village all the way to the halls of the federal government to become an anti-family, anti-American despotism and here is just another disgusting example of that devolution from American republic to fascist state.

When we are prohibited by state law to even offer a little help to our friends and neighbors or face prosecution by the all powerful state, we have arrived at a time when our government is no longer on our side. Our governments, all of them, are fast becoming enemies to the common good, enemies to the rights and liberties of the people they are supposed to govern. Government is now only interested in its own power and its own needs.

When you can’t even help a neighbor for fear of the fascist state coming down on you like a ton of bricks we have arrived at a turning point for sure. It is time to take power away from government at every level. When any politician is running for office and telling us what he will “do” for us, tell him you only want one thing from him. Tell him you want him to LEAVE US ALONE!

Thanks for the best explanation of what this case was about.

That does sound like bureaucratic garbage.

  3. Jason on September 26th, 2009 3:16 pm

    But..but…but…

I thought we were supposed to want universal health insurance BECAUSE we are supposed to care so much about our fellow man?

This is America, if I don’t want to give a damn about you, that is OK. If I DO want to give a damn about you, that is OK too.

    Beauracracy pisses me off.

I think we need more and I am serious about this. I think we need to hold each politician accountable to which of this legislation he/she will work to UNDO.

I believe we’re at a point where we could be found guilty of some crime at any moment by an official who cares to look hard enough.

Politicians keep telling us they can’t really undo it once it’s done. I need a better explanation of why that would be so.

Actually, the STUPID person is the state official who interpreted the law to cover a situation like this. Every state has daycare license requirements – but magically, they don’t prevent “babysitting.”

What’s even more stupid: The cops showing up to arrest people for using dildos. Texas — don’t mess with it.

  6. tony smith on September 26th, 2009 5:29 pm

PS: The ACLU would undoubtedly side with the babysitter in this situation. The title of your blog is odd.

I don’t understand why the state is so concerned with what a few caring people do. It takes a good neighbourhood to take care of children. Why doesn’t the state government mind their own damn business? I applaud the young woman who took care of her neighbour’s children until either mom or dad, or both got home. If it weren’t for her, the kids probably wouldn’t have made it safely on the school bus and off to school.

Babysitting moms and dads in subdivisions aren’t watching one or two kids. There watching 4 or 5 sometimes 6 to 8 kids at a time.

And there not watching them for 40 minutes thats B.S. These kids come with there lunch bags..lol

It’s at least 8 to 10 hours a day 5 days a week I know. I live next to several romper rooms.

These people send the kids that they are supposedly babysitting out to play in the yards all day screamming there fool heads off.

Yea, you know what I’m talking about.

This has become a huge nusense just like those goof balls dads who think there up in the great white north and gotta have a bon-fire in there back yards every night when It’s 90 flippin degrees outside while afixiating the rest of the neighborhood.

The good book says “respect thy neighbor”
    Not piss them off.

These Dumba**es got called upon for being stupid. Not because they were babysitting.

    Throw the book at them.

I think that is bull****.But that is the way to brack the working man or woman. It’s a croak, but It is so hard to fight the government. That even lawerys, will tell you it is hopeless.WHO CAN THEN??????????

I am so tired of people sticking their noses into other peoples business. If the neighbor that complained, would think back to their childhood, I bet neighbors or friends baby sat for them or helped them to get on the bus. Besides what goes on on your own property is your business. People like the neighbor who complained should think WWJD (What Would Jesus Do)

We have made it get to this point. Parents who have no time want a licensed child care giver because they have no time to do it themselves. When a neighbor wants to help they look at her as if their might be something wrong with her. People are very suspicious of one another. I feel sorry for this woman who her only motive was to help the children keep safe. I am sorry to say she doesn’t have a leg to stand on until all the people take a stand.

I think this is just more BS. It is amazing to me how we live in a “free country”. What a joke!! Becomming more communist every minute.

  13. Pat Walls on September 30th, 2009 2:05 pm

    Hi guys,
It took not one person to make this unanimous decision ,so obviously the entire panel are without children ! and the selfcentered neighbor that made the comment about being anoyed, im sure if he would have notified the neighbor concerning the children being a little noisy, this may have resolved his disturbance! O,I forgot you need to have common sence to do that, boy, what am I thinking !!! that’s right none of these people were ever children themselves !!! the nerve of me !!! All jokes aside ,the bottom line is ,this is a prime example of what happens when one insist on removing GOD CONSCIOUSNESS from the MIND !!!! there is no common sence ,no family value,no self respect , no human compasion , no mercy, no pity ,sex without emotions, in essence everything and everyone is without the most important quality of all LOVE !!!

i think it is [edited] that the state can say she can’t help look after the neighbors kids. i thought we had rights in the U.S.A. guess i was wrong.i live in N.H. and the saying is live free or die, but they have taken away so many of our rights already and keeps taking more away. we need to stand up for ourselves and our loved ones cause it is so not fair that we are told we can’t do something or we get a fine or even put in jail.i think we should have the right to help each other and not have to face fines or even jail time for it……the state and government need to leave us the hell alone and let us live our lives…we are not hurting anyone!!!!!!!!

Guess we’ll have to consult with ACORN, Ops they lost their allotted monies…There’s always the Rev Jessie Jackson. The ALCU should have an opinion, they always do!!

  16. MRS. RICK on September 30th, 2009 2:47 pm

THIS IS AMERICA PEOPLE NOT A COMMUNIST COUNTRY. PEOPLE SHOULD MIND THEIR OWN BUSINESS, AND THE GOVERNMENT SHOULD STOP TRYING TO MAKE MONEY ON EVERYTHING. IF THE CAREGIVER IS NOT HARMING THE CHILDREN AND THE FAMILIES ARE HAPPY, STAY OUT OF IT. IF THE NEIGHBOR CAN LIVE WITH THAT GET BUSY AND MOVE TO A COMMUNIST COUNTRY. NEIGHBORS IF YOU DON’T LIKE IT MOVE TO A 5 ACRE HOUSE: IF YOU ARE POOR, AND CAN AFFORD IT ADAPT IF NOT PRETTY SOON YOU WILL LOSE YOU FREEDOM TOO.

  17. Solid Snake on September 30th, 2009 3:06 pm

You would think we have BIGGER problems to deal with. Im not Dem, Rep or Ind, but they’ve gone too far. I normally keep my opinions to myself….we are [expletive deleted] as a country and as a member of the global community. Its only about time before the U”SS”A is knocking at our doors to drag us all to the camps….

  18. denise demgen on September 30th, 2009 3:35 pm

whats wrong with a neighbor getting achild off to school for another nieghbor .the state of mich . should keep there nose out of other peoples bussiness. maybe the other person cann’t afford any day care or don’t trust others with her kid . thats her bussiness not the state of mich. the state don’t give everyone help or what they need . they just zoned in on this lady to make hell for her i feel sorry for her.

  19. denise demgen on September 30th, 2009 3:47 pm

maybe the neighbor cann’t afford to pay day care wages . the state of mich . needs to mind there own bussiness. why attack this lady for doing something for another person . we don’t live in a world where people trust strangers to whatch kids.what happpened to babbysitters like when i was babbysitting in the 70’s- 80’s. so what leave this woman alone.

  20. sherryt on September 30th, 2009 3:58 pm

This is the law of the land and what about the people that the Goverment says that It is O.K. for them to watch are kids and they are convited of some crime . DO YOU SUE THE GOVERMENT for given them a license.

    How does that work!!!!!!!!!!!!

  21. Kim on September 30th, 2009 4:26 pm

I just want to say that this is absolutely obsurd. We have all helped out a friend and now she is going to be penalized.. that is crazy. If the State wants to enforce child care laws then look at the actual providers who do have licenses. When is the last time that they were really checked into. I read this and I think about all the bigger fish to fry and wonder if they are lacking that much in job responsibilities that they need to pick on a person or “Cares for” not babysits for the neighborhood person. This is nothing compared to what is going on in Milwaukee WI so instead of worrying about this little piddley stuff why don’t you actually do some work and save us tax payers some money and make sure that your so called “Legitimate” day care providers are really legitimate.

  22. MRS. MILLY on September 30th, 2009 5:41 pm

THE GOVERMENT SAW THE OPPORTUNITY TO MAKE MONEY OF PRESCHOOL BUSINESSES. IT WAS NOT BECAUSE THE CHILDREN WERE IMPORTANT IT’S BECAUSE OF MONEY. IF THE CHILDREN ARE SO IMPORTANT HOW COME THE MONEY THAT IS MEANT FOR THEM DISAPPEARS, AND HALF OF THE TIME THE SUBSIDIZED PROGRAMS FOR THEM ARE CLOSED. WHERE DOES THE TAX DOLLARS GOES….. JUSTICE SHOULD BE EQUAL. WHY NOT PUT SOME TAX DOLLARS TO MAKE IT JUST A LITTLE EASIER FOR HARD WORKING AMERICANS. EVERYTHING SHOULDN’T BE JUST TAKE…TAKE TAKE AND STEAL STEAL..STEAL WHEN EVERY ONE IN AMERICA ARE POOR HOW IS THE GOVERMENT GOING TO TAKE TAKE TAKE.
