Anti-Mark Kirk Efforts Begin

-By Warner Todd Huston

Republicans United Against Mark Kirk for US Senate, a blog to chronicle Representative Mark Kirk’s record by folks not very happy with his record has been set up to argue against his candidacy.

According to the opening main statement, the blog is set up to reveal Kirk’s “departure from the GOP’s state and national platforms.”

This blog is a response to US Rep. Mark Kirk’s bid for the US Senate seat from Illinois. It will reveal Mark Kirk’s voting record as a member of the US House of Reps. and address Kirk’s departure from the GOP’s state and national platforms. This site will provide a venue for Illinois voters to express their opinions on not only Kirk, but others who will be on the GOP’s primary ballot in 2010. Read letters to the editor, articles and commentaries regarding Kirk’s position on the issues.

Kirk’s Cap and Trade vote really set off a firestorm of anti-Kirk sentiment out there, it seems.

The blog was started by one Jay Cleary who told RFFM.org’s Daniel T. Zanoza that he got the idea from one of Zanoza’s editorials.

“I have never been involved in politics to any great extent,” said the site’s creator Jay Cleary. “I got the idea when I read an article posted on GOPUSA Illinois written by Dan Zanoza of RFFM.org*. I became a Republican for a reason. As I understand the GOP platform both for the state of Illinois and nationally, I don’t understand why there are members of the Republican establishment who would support someone like Kirk. I don’t believe in the philosophy of ‘Republican, right or wrong’. I vote for individuals because of how they stand on the issues I care about.”

Kirk doesn’t just have Cap and Tax troubles because his 2nd Amendment record is not a stellar one either.

In any case, voters deserve a full hearing of Kirk’s record as we gear up to choose who will support us during this coming primary season.

Let us hope that we, the voters of the state of Illinois, get a chance to pick our own candidate before the national party pokes its nose into our business and chooses Kirk by fiat before we are all well informed of his and the other candidate’s record.

This is great, but who is the alternative?

As we saw in 2008, you can have underfunded no-name conservatives and a media-primped RINO, and the RINO wins the GOP primary.

I know there are some other folks running, but who is the best candidate to tout as an alternative?
