Betsy Markey Tells The Truth In Front Of Large Astroturf Audience

I bet Betsy got a few ugly calls from folks like Nancy Pelosi and Rom Emanuel after this little bit of “whoops, I told the truth

Some people, including Medicare recipients, will have to give up some current benefits to truly reform the nation’s health-care system, Rep. Betsy Markey told a gathering of constituents in Fort Collins on Wednesday.

Markey has repeatedly said during the August congressional recess that Medicare spending needs to be reined in to help pay for reforming the broader health-care system.

“There’s going to be some people who are going to have to give up some things, honestly, for all of this to work,” Markey said at a Congress on Your Corner event at CSU. “But we have to do this because we’re Americans.

Got that? We have to hose the senior citizens, and certainly others, to institute this abomination of a plan, because she thinks that is the American way.

The audience at Wednesday’s gathering appeared largely supportive of Democratic reform plans, with a number of people arriving with signs prepared by Organizing for America, a spinoff of Barack Obama’s presidential campaign.

No no, no astroturf there.

So, what will Americans have to give up? Freedom. Privacy. Choice. Control of their lives. Wages, as they wait in long lines when they should be working. Quality care. Among others.

BTW, Howard Dean told the truth the other day, too

“This is the answer from a doctor and a politician,” said Dean. “Here is why tort reform is not in the bill. When you go to pass a really enormous bill like that the more stuff you put in, the more enemies you make, right? And the reason why tort reform is not in the bill is because the people who wrote it did not want to take on the trial lawyers in addition to everybody else they were taking on, and that is the plain and simple truth. Now, that’s the truth.”

While I disagree vehemently with Howard Dean’s politics, I have always respected that he tells the truth, and is passionate in doing it. Which is a good reason he flamed out during the 2004 primaries. Democrats do not like when one of their people tells the unvarnished truth. Of course, he did miss the part where the trial lawyers are one of the special interests that the Democrat Party is beholden to.

Well…Dean told PART of the truth. He forgot the part about how “the people who wrote the bill” receive a heck of lot more moolah from trial lawyers than they do from “everybody else”.

In the end, it’s always about getting paid.

Why do Americans have to give up anyting? How about eliminating the billions to ACORN and other groups? This is not a necessary use of money. How about cutting back on the billions spent of foreign aid? Americans could use that money. How about a real fraud investigation of Medicare? Save more there too. How about cutting govt jobs? More money there. There are billions that could be saved and spent wisely for Americans. Why are the taxpayers always the ones to suffer and the least to receive?

There is som hyprocrisy going on in this blog. If this blog is against so called goverment health care, why is it talking about how great medicare is? Medicare is so great I feel some benefits could be revisited. My father is on it, I will be on it. Medicare and VA are governemnt ran and are great programs.

Kyrstal, foreign aid is less than 1% of the budget. It does a lot of good, creates goodwill and makes friends. Plus we have made plenty of wealth/treasure off the backs of the global community and need to give back.

Actually the Left has been more successful at conditioning Americans to the idea of “sacrifice” — giving up things like freedom, choice, individual autonomy — than the establishment Right has been in averring that we need to give up dependence on government, i.e., a conservative version of “sacrifice.”

But we shouldn’t be having this debate on their twisted terms at all.

The truth is that we on the Right lack a leader who challenges their very premise of “sacrifice,” that is, willing to expose the left’s shriveled and supplicant vision of America and Americans, and to inspire the people to envisage themselves as powerful individuals seeking MORE freedoms and opportunities not settling for LESS. We lack a leader willing to charge into the Left and their field of dead ideas with the scythe of conservative hope and greatness.

    should read
“Got that? We have to hose the senior citizens, many of them veterans who fought to defend our country and freedoms in combat, to provide lavish benefits for illegal aliens.”

I’m guessing that Rep. Markey will actually vote against a bill that includes or allows illegal aliens to be a drain on our medical healthcare system, either designed or by ommission, based on the premise that of her concerns to target reform and the causes for the costs. I’m sure that SHE will vote against any reform bill that really doesn’t reform or address the biggest cause of cost inflations on everything from medical procedures, insurance premiums,to a single pill produced in some factory.. tort reform that includes “settlements” that feed lawyers from the trough of “sure” money they feed on like swine at the expense of taxpayers, doctors, and all medical professionals. We, the citizens and taxpayers should just lie down, get on our stomachs, “present” our backsides, and accept what this Administration and the “testosterone challenged” congresspeople are about to shove into us… for our Messiah… and for our good. I, for one, don’t really feel like taking it up the wazoo right now.
