Democrats Plan to Go It Alone on Healthcare Bill
Posted on August 18, 2009
August isn’t over yet, and there are plenty of calls we can still make, but Drudge is saying Democrats are through trying to compromise. I’m sure we will get the details of this major gamble soon. Bottom line is the Democrats never needed us to pass this monster anyway. They have the votes (or do they), they just want to be able to share the blame when this blows up…and it will. But, they will have to wear this one around their neck. They will own it, and it will fail. They won’t be able to blame Bush. Welcome to one party mob rule, folks! If they do this, I think they’ll try to keep the public option.
Here is some rope, liberals…go do what you do best with it. This has gotta be a bluff! Right? Will they really shoot their own foot like this? The American people have rejected this, so will the Democrats really try to force it down their throat? Wouldn’t this be political suicide? I guess we will find out when the details come around.
[S]uch a change could alter the dynamic of talks surrounding health care legislation, and even change the substance of a final bill. With no need to negotiate with Republicans, Democrats might be better able to move more quickly, relying on their large majorities in both houses. Democratic senators might feel more empowered, for example, to define the authority of the nonprofit insurance cooperatives that are emerging as an alternative to a public insurance plan…
Administration officials, who maintain that Republicans are badly mischaracterizing the legislation that has emerged from three House committees and the Senate health committee, said they had hoped to achieve some level of bipartisan support. But they are becoming increasingly convinced that they will instead have to navigate the complicated politics among varying Democratic factions.
The officials said the White House hoped to make the case to the American people that it was Republicans who had abandoned the effort at bipartisanship. Republicans countered by saying that they simply opposed the legislation and that the public outcry had validated their view and solidified their opposition.
One senior administration official said the sense within the White House was that Republicans, in an effort to undermine President Obama and Congressional Democrats, had made a political calculation to oppose any health care legislation.
I’m disappointed the article didn’t live up to the hype. I was hoping to watch the lemmings jump off the cliff. It sounds like a bluff to me that would only expose the Democrat bluedogs as the ones really keeping this from getting passed. Perhaps this was meant to pressure them? They really don’t have the votes with a public option, and that option is vital to the liberals. Of course this isn’t stopping some to scheme, but I’m calling bluff on this rumor.

It’s a clarifying moment at the very least.
1) White House sends signals that public option is off the table.
2) Liberals get furious and threaten to vote against any plan without it.
3) White House reaffirms support for public option – trial balloon message returned…
4) Kyl and GOP leadership state they will not support anything coming out of the Finance Committee (not to mention the HELP Committee)
5) White House says, “We tried to negotiate with the Republicans but they decided to be the “Party of No”. So we’ll do it alone
6) Now is the interesting part – will co-oppers (Baucus, Conrad, Nelson, etc.) agree with the White House and let the public option go through? Or will they join a GOP filibuster?
Expect Obama to be working the co-oppers very closely.
Thanks to pro life folks 45 blue dogs broke off … Maxine Water attacked them, they have now been home and realize they are not on the Obatanic I don’t think they will get aboard.
Looks like the healthcare, phamaceutical and insurance lobbies are succeeding in continuing to wring every cent out of the American public. The only losers will be the people who drive this vast engine called the USA. The people at the top will remain covered. The people at the bottom and the illegal immigrants will continue to be covered by public money. Only the people who are losing their jobs, homes, or any/everything else they have worked for, will continue to be raped by the system.
The promised efficiencies, cost controls, and fair practices will force the USA to be in that wealth redistribution where, like Egypt, we will have 5% upperclass, 5% middle class and 90% at the bottom. We are looking to kill off that vast middle class which was the golden goose that fueled the economy and created the American dream, in order that the top 5% can wring the last wealth from the masses.
Sure, they’ll ramrod this thing through next month. Come 2010 though, there might be a funding problem. There’s more than one way to kill this thing.
What you fail to realize is that the loopy right-wing dogmas that premise your analysis have always been false, they took us to the brink of another great depression, and health care reform will be wildly popular, because it serves people’s needs. 77% of the population wants the public option. The only people with which this reform it is not popular is you simple-minded economic fundamentalist right wing ideologues, who wouldn’t know real freedom if it came up and bit you — which it is about to do!
Allen,
I’d imagine your idea of “real freedom” would closely resemble your idea of real truth, which is completely lacking in your entire comment.
Not surprising considering the sources you utilize and the amount of money you are paying for your indoctrination. (or are they paying you to indoctrinate?)
Read this, then split the difference, if you like.
