Surprise! Global Warming Data Missing From CRU
Or, as The Register puts it “Global Warming Ate My Data”
The world’s source for global temperature record admits it’s lost or destroyed all the original data that would allow a third party to construct a global temperature record. The destruction (or loss) of the data comes at a convenient time for the Climatic Research Unit (CRU) in East Anglia – permitting it to snub FoIA requests to see the data.
The CRU has refused to release the raw weather station data and its processing methods for inspection – except to hand-picked academics – for several years. Instead, it releases a processed version, in gridded form. NASA maintains its own (GISSTEMP), but the CRU Global Climate Dataset, is the most cited surface temperature record by the UN IPCC. So any errors in CRU cascade around the world, and become part of “the science”.
Shocker! The CRU says it doesn’t want the data being used to rebut, er, “find something wrong with it.” As Canadian statistician and blogger points out, if you cannot independently reproduce the data, its not science. AGW is not about science, of course.
In other AGW news, 80 prominent scientists have signed a letter to the American Physical Society, which includes
Studies of a variety of natural processes, including ocean cycles and solar variability, indicate that they can account for variations in the Earth’s climate on the time scale of decades and centuries. Current climate models appear insufficiently reliable to properly account for natural and anthropogenic contributions to past climate change, much less project future climate.
Woops.
Roger Pielke, Jr, has a new study that shows that global temperature trends have been overstated.
Sea rise has been vastly overstated.
And, good news, four Democrat Senators say the climate change legislation should be set aside for this year.
