White House Email List: White House Privacy Policy? ACLU Ruffled
Posted on August 13, 2009
Major Garrett grilled Robert Gibbs today in a White House Press Conference. He wanted to know where the White House got the list of email names that went out in a mass mailing sent by David Axelrod? Gibbs didn’t want to talk about it. Garrett said I have emails sent to me from people saying they never signed up, at any time, to receive anything, from this White House or Obama as a Senator. Gibbs still didn’t want to talk about it, but he asked Major for his list of emails. Garrett was incredulous.
At 9:25 pm CDT, Major Garrett is on On the Record with Greta Van Susteren. He is talking about today’s White House Press conference where Garrett asks Gibbs about a mass emailing of a message from David Axelrod to voters. See the video below. See Update below.
Tonight on Greta, Major Garrett has said he now has permission and is waiting to hear back from Gibbs. (I heard a few words about “Freedom of Information Act).
On Greta, Garrett says the communication from Axelrod was 8 White House priorities for health care, clearing up myths, defining principle goals for health care, etc.
This is a very interesting exchange. I haven’t given it all away in the above dialog.

Much kudos to you Major. I wish half of the reporters in that room had one half the kahunas that you have, and we all could sleep little better at night.
Don’t give up please, sounds like you’ve got the ACLU backing you, let’s get support for Major. Let’s not lose our country to this questionable scary president.

Damn! Gibbs is an a**!
I think the answer to Major’s main question about the email list is that if you filled out the Contact Us form at the White House website, you got put on the list, without a way to opt out.
i do not trust this president what eals can he get away with why are they getting away with it all?
Go Major! At least there is one reporter who will go after the truth. During the Bush Administration they had to deal with many “difficult” questions. The Obama Administration seems to get there feathers ruffled when just one reporter asks a question which wasn’t rehearsed.
Red Five, these people say they did not fill out any form. I have a reader who got one and has never asked to receive anything.
This smacks of Animal Farm. Where is the justice department?
I also received and email from David Axelrod and I want to know where info@messages.whitehouse.gov got my email address from!
I never signed up for or gave permission for the White House to solicit me for anything!
