White House Website Asking for Informants on Anti-Healthcare Advocates

I guess it shouldn’t be surprising that the Obama White House is now asking the public to snitch on their fellow citizens by sending an email to White House staffers informing them of other Americans that oppose Obamacare. I know what you are saying. You are probably saying that I am just a rabble rousing conservative that is just trying to stir trouble. You are probably thinking that I am taking something out of context.
Well I wish I were.
An August 4 bog post on the White House website is clearly asking for Americans to snitch on their neighbors. WH staffer Linda Douglas, a former “journalist” turned political operative, is featured on a video telling tall tales about Obama’s healthcare plan and how wonderful it is for America. But here is the scary part:
There is a lot of disinformation about health insurance reform out there, spanning from control of personal finances to end of life care. These rumors often travel just below the surface via chain emails or through casual conversation. Since we can’t keep track of all of them here at the White House, we’re asking for your help. If you get an email or see something on the web about health insurance reform that seems fishy, send it to flag@whitehouse.gov.
If that isn’t asking citizens to snitch on each other…. What is?
Of course the WH site pushes the Obama lie that we can keep our health insurance “if we like it” by pointing out that Obama has “consistently said” it. But saying a lie 100 times does not make it the truth. It is a fact that millions of Americans WILL lose their current healthcare plans if Obamacare passes in the form the president keeps advocating for.
But of the information that these American snitchers send off to the White House, who in the White House is going to get this information? What are they going to do with it? Will they create a data base of people that stand against Obama? What is to be done with such a database? Who will get visited by the FBI in the dead of night because they sent an email critical of Obama’s socialist styled healthcare policies?
A friend of mine named Bill Collier has written a great letter to the White House asking these questions and more.

Greetings, sir, I pray for your health and that God may grant you peace and wisdom.
I am writing to you at this email address because of a post at the White House blog that, frankly, sir, has me a bit concerned.
I am certain that you are committed to freedom and liberty and do not intend on decreasing the level of freedom or the participation of citizens in the process of deciding public policy for our nation, even if that might mean that some of your initiatives have to be scaled back or simply abandoned.
Some might, however, question your commitment to freedom and the participation of citizens in the decision making process and this is why I am writing, respectfully, in the hope of seeing a happy resolution to what I hope is merely a poorly stated appeal for help in support of your health care initiative.
I understand you are asking people, through your staff, to email flag@whitehouse.gov to report people who oppose your health care plan, even though, Mr. President, you have NOT actually sent out a specific proposal and there are multiple different proposals.
Your appeal, which I sincerely fear is a call for informants (http://www.whitehouse.gov/blog/Facts-Are-Stubborn-Things/) was cloaked in what seems to some, myself included, doublespeak, and to my mind this appeal carries the implication that the White House wants to capture the names of opponents, which has a potentially chilling effect on open debate.
As part of this appeal, you tell your readers, basically, that people who are citing video of yourself calling for a single payer system and detailing an incrementalist approach ‘liars’, something that is both impolite and, frankly, juvenile and beneath contempt. Those statements were made by you, Mr. President. If indeed you are opposed to a single payer plan and have changed your mind, it is useful to you, and citizens who may even support you but for this perception, to clear this matter up rather than blaming others for a reasonable and logical assumption based on what you actually said.
Mr. President, facts ARE stubborn things and unless or until you publicly disavow a single payer system and actually ANNOUNCE and put in print YOUR health care proposal, it is only reasonable to think that all those things you have said are still on the table and part of your overall plan. If, however, you want a single payer system, please tell us and put in writing what your plan is so that we can have a civil discourse.
Mr. President, are you willing to state what your plan is then publicly disavow any plan that involves single payer plans in any fashion?
Further, Mr. President, would you be willing to solemnly swear that the minute you propose or even SIGN any bill that includes a single player plan or a precursor thereto that you will resign your office? Are you willing, sir, to resign your office if the implementation of your plan results in anything more than a 10% decrease in the number of people enrolled in private plans within 4 years after whatever bill is passed?
Please be advised, Mr. President, I will not be monitored: I oppose what some refer to as ‘Obamacare’ on the basis of my conviction that the Federal Power has no business sticking its nose in such things, a point of view that I sincerely believe is consistent with the original intent of our Founders. I respect that you feel differently and read that differently, but to dismiss our point of view with juvenile and petty name-calling that is clearly beneath contempt and that is simply not professional is a reflection on the content of your character that will not turn Americans against those who oppose state-run or regulated and managed health care by ANY name.
I am NOT afraid to stand up for my convictions, I respect you and your office, and I rightfully and justly demand that you and your staff respect me and my office, the office of “elector”, one of your 300 million “bosses”.
I respectfully request that you stop asking people to become informants, please spend a few minutes and re-read your constitution which you swore to uphold, and which is a condition of your tenure which must be adhered to.
I am enclosing a copy of this email to my member of Congress, my Senators, and my Governor as well as any local media and asking them to investigate WHY the White House is trying to capture names of opponents and asking people to inform on opponents.
If your office is seeking to obtain names of people who oppose your plan and to engage other Americans as informants or agents I would, and I am sure many others would, consider this to be a SERIOUS offense against the Bill of Rights if indeed your objective here is to do this, so, with this in mind, sir, please cease and desist and respect even those who oppose you in a civil and fair manner.
I pray that this communication is seen as a friendly appeal for a quick and amicable resolution of my concerns or, at worse, a friendly rebuke, if you will, due to what is clearly impolite behavior that is beneath of the dignity of the Presidency or the White House.
May you continue to be in good health and good spirits as you lead our free nation of free and sovereign citizens who wish you, and America, Godspeed within the reasonable constraints of liberty, justice, and our Constitution.

Well, shoot….all they have to do is look at darn near every conservative blog within the borders of the good ol’ US of A! Problem is, we DO have the facts! We’ve got his very own words. So, was he lying when he said he wanted single payer, or is he lying now?

Isn’t it interesting that they tell you he is not for single payer because he said so on many occasions and that should be good enough but you should ignore what he said about single payer. Listen to what he says but don’t listen to what he says.

I can see Linda Douglas being thrown under the bus soon.
I reported my 85-year old Republican mother to flag@whitehouse.gov and asked them to “straighten her out”. She said she was against euthanasia for the elderly in lieu of costly medical treatment.
Since they mentioned “rumors” and “casual conversation” I’m hoping some imaginative folks come up with some interesting “rumors” for the White House to chase down or respond to. Could be very entertaining.

Ever hear, or read something by, your boss, your neighbor, your parent, relative, spouse, or child, in opposition to the plans, policies, or statements of the current administration, and its enablers in Congress?
Turn them in! It’s your Patriotic Duty!
My God! Does this sound familiar to ANYONE?
Oh, wait…I don’t think they teach history like they used to, and The Greatest Generation IS slowly dying out.
I’ve read through a bunch of right wing websites now, and I’m a bit disgusted.
Basically, here’s what happened:
1.The White House asks for people to notify it of “disinformation” and “rumors,” so that they can refute them.
2.The right wing blogosphere goes nuts, denouncing the White House for suggesting that PEOPLE be reported for opposing Obama’s health care plans.
But the WH never asked for anyone to report PEOPLE. They asked for disinformation to be reported so that that WH can refute it.
What really blows my mind is that nearly every right wing website quotes the WH in full, providing the text where the WH clearly doesn’t ask for PEOPLE to be reported. All these websites then immediately denounce the WH for asking for PEOPLE to be reported.
So, I’m left with three options:
1. You guys are being willfully disingenuous.
2. You’re simply idiots.
3. You all so desperately want Obama to do something outrageous, thus validating the opinions you’ve already formed, that you’re reading things into the WH’s statements that clearly aren’t there.
I’m trying to think the best of people, so I’m going with option three. So please people, take a step back and actually think about it. Facts should lead to answers, not the other way around.
I mean really, I’m not even asking you to like Obama. I’m not even hoping you’ll stop hating him. I’m just hoping that one day, you can all be bothered to reach conclusions that are supported by facts.
Why not report to the White House all the liberal blogs with their claims? Heck, let’s have multiple people summit Michael Moore’s name. Just a Suggestion.
Um…, SPHERE…just who, or what, in the Sam Hill do think would be putting out the stuff the White House wants Americans to report?

And – how can they argue that there is DISINFORMATION out there? No one – NO ONE knows what the final bill will entail. NO ONE can say that ANY DISCUSSION is disinformation at this point.
This melding of activist campaign machine and governing is a very, very bad thing.

For God’s Sake! The only people satisfied with healthcare are the people who can actually afford it. Obama is trying to do something helpful for the American people and the haters are trying to bring him down any way they can. Republicans are making fools of themselves and I will Never Vote Republican Again. They only care about rich people, they spread vicious lies, and I believe that they are prejudice, this coming from a white female in her mid 40’s.
Inresponse to the person saying “all the White House is asking for is “dissinformation” annd not the person who said it” I have two responses,
1) The fact the White House want’s to “keep track” of ALL of what IT considers “Bad infomation” should be cause for alarm. I realize this may seem normal and ok to you but it truly is not. We truly are suppose to be a people with a government not a government with a people.
2) The request implies they want the actual e-mail conaining the “bad information” forwarded to the White House. I am no computer expert, but does that not give them the ability to identify the PERSON who stated the inforrmation?
I know if you allow your freedoms to be taken from you because you like President Obamah, you will one day regret it.

Wow, that is a good letter and to the point. I do remember many of the things spoken on TV and in the campaigns about the single payer system. Even him saying that Medicare works. Frankly Medicare doesn’t work and my Grandmother has limits on her treatments and what is covered and her medicines. Her co-pays take all her money and I have to help her pay. So if they are going to compare it to Medicare we all are screwed. Keep up the good fight. Folks must remember when you speak words on TV, Video or on here, speak the truth for those words or actions will come back to haunt you. I agree he should get on TV and speak what he truly wants or believes and not through Gibbs. Also, isn’t it funny that the other political parties had the right to speak out and refute Bush, Reagan, yet because we don’t agree with issues that affect us they call us nuts or racist or Obama haters. Could anyone show me in the Constitution where healthcare is a right? Welfare is a right? Free money is a right? I pay quite a bit of taxes and am curious how wasteful our government is with the money. Study the Roman Empire. Do you see any similarities? Has our Congress, Senate, White House tought of that. Our founding fathers did and that is why they wrote the Constitution the way they did. Forcefully taking from the rich to give to the poor has never worked. Sounds like they been watching Robinhood reruns.

The White House is full of very intelligent people who know how to choose words to relay a point. Never once is it mentioned in the White House blog that we should not turn in each other. As a matter of fact, the language used specifically leads one to believe that this is EXACTLY what this administration would have us do.
I am sure that there are LOTS of people out there who will read that blog and turn around and report all of the people they know who ever spoke out against or openly have had concerns with President Obama’s view and implementation of health care reform.
What do you think the White House will do with that information? Do you think they’ll look at the E-mails and say, “Oh, there’s a person’s name attached to this E-mail….We’re going to have to delete that name!”?
Not just NO, but HELL NO!!!! They want that information. Also, if there’s any flack about it, the White House can always come back and say that they never ask for that information and that all they wanted to do was dispel false rumors circulating in E-mails.
They WILL compile a list of names of their opposition! That, I can assure you! “Progressives” on the left will see to that! They may not do anything with that list. However they DO want to know who you are and where you stand!

How about you Rethuglicans start talking about the best way to reform our Health care system in this country, instead of the best way to stop Obama and make him look like the Devil or Hitler or whatever your aiming for? A real, educated debate over the pros and cons of the plan, and how we can best make it work for everybody, despite our ideological differences is what America is REALLY about, and since you guys all claim to be such wonderful Patriots, why not try it out huh? Shouting down elected Representatives when they are trying to speak to their constituents and comparing our President to Hitler is not constructive.

Of course the Republicans are, Zach! I’m no one’s fool! However, neither is anyone in power (either past or present). Look at what Woodrow Wilson did back in 1917 and 1918. People were asked to turn in those who disagreed with the government. Look at the McCarthy era. What’s the deal? Do you think we’re so wonderful a nation that these things don’t happen? Or, are you so far removed from what happened long ago that you don’t remember them? Do you not know your history?
Anyone wanting to maintain that kind of power will do whatever it deems necessary. That includes punishing those who oppose them.

In response to your second post…yes, it sounds silly. But, it’s 100% true! This is EXACTLY the type of thing that happened during the presidency of Woodrow Wilson and it’s EXACTLY the type of thing that was going on during the McCarthy era! These are also the EXACT tactics used by (as mentioned by others here) the likes of Hitler, Mao, Stalin, and Mussolini.

If someone were to say that Hitler would exterminate and exile most (if not all) of the Jews in Germany in, oh, let’s see, 1925, people would have thought that insane. Yet, it happened.

They are asking us to submit any slanderous and baseless chain emails that are flying around, like the ones during the 2004 “swift Boat” campaign, or the ridiculous “birthers” movement in this election, or even that terrible flyer that went out during the 2000 primary battle between McCain and Bush where he said McCain had a Black son out of wedlock. It may very well be that all the White House wants to do is debunk the myths that are floating around about Obama’s health care proposals. However, with the language that was used on that blog, one is left with no other choice but to believe that the White House has a totally different agenda.
The White House, along with the offices that comprise the executive branch of government, has, at its disposal, all the information, innuendos, myths, facts, and what ever else it needs. It knows full well what information (whether fact or fiction) is being circulated amongst the general public.
Why then, therefore, would they need specific E-mails and websites? Why would they feel the need to use specific words such as “casual conversation” in regards to what is being said in opposition (fact or fiction) to SPECIFICALLY Obama’s stance on health care?
If the White House wanted to debunk myths it could do that with a simple press conference or a letter or a fireside chat or a town hall meeting or something other than having the general public provide information about other members of the general public.

I will never inform on any American citizen. If people are concerned about the proposed health care system then it is for a reason. The system we have is the best in the world and your administration is doing more harm than good that’s for sure. For you to ask Americans to inform on other is unspeakable. Check the web yourself if you want information. Free speech is alive and well.

Uncle Barack like Uncle Joe, Uncle Fidel and Uncle Hugo lust for control and he has learned their lessons well. Bring the hammer down, pit one neighbor against another, preserve the Party line at all costs. If this were a sports analogy one would notice that the Obama administration is not trying to defeat their opponents with the “superiority” of their ideas but seek victory by silencing their adversaries and from keeping them from even walking onto the field. A victory by “forced forfeit” is still a victory. And one to be proud of! One would be tempted to call this KGB like Obama tactic “neo fascist”, but that would imply that he was a new convert to this way of thinking. These seeds have been festering for many years in Obama, his mentors, his associates and in what would probably be a majority of his Cabinet. (especially the “czars”). As Americans, we can appreciate new ideas put forth by our elected leaders. But these leaders must realize that ultimately they are in D.C. to “represent” us,the people. In other words, do as “we” say, represent our way of thinking, not the other way round. Being from the “Chicago Machine” a place rich in anti “rat fink” sentiment, this break from tradition seems a little odd. But with Obama “political expediency” will always win out. To paraphrase, “my lies won’t work if the truth gets out”. “Please help me, be a snitch, a rat fink”. “As a citizen, being a tattletale is your highest calling”. Da, Uncle Barack, da!

DJ. If your arguement is really just about whether or not they used the correct wording for this, then I would say no. It could have been worded better.
The fact that there are people that are okay with this just flat out scare me. When Bush introduced the Patriot Act people flipped out, Democrats and Republicans and rightfully so.
Liberals don’t care about these violations because they feel they know better than we do. They are not afraid to step on us because they feel justified that the end result will be worth it. Our govt has created the conditions for this country to fail and have created the conditions for these types of policies to flourish. As long as most of the country remains ignorant and polarized, there will be no hope.

Now be honest–If George Bush’s white house had put out an appeal to track down those spreading “disinformation” about the Iraq War and other Bush policies, wouldn’t you be the first one to go nuts about it?
The fact here is, as I have stated before, that the White House could have used different wording BUT DIDN’T! They are smart enough to know EXACTLY what they are implying! If a dumb a** like me can see a subtle request here, I have to believe that the “smart” people in charge would see that too.
I am equally sure that the White House knows that there are people out there that would read that blog, figure it’s their patriotic duty to turn in people who have said something contrary to what Obama says, and actually go through with turning in those people!
Our Federal government has the power, funding, and staff to compile a list of ANYTHING THEY WANT! All they need is a bunch of “do good-ers” squealing on each other. Then, we’re right back to the McCarthy era where the Feds are demanding that we give names of the people we know who were at rallies, fundraisers, or tea-parties. That, simply, WILL NOT DO!
Socialistic agendas and programs NEVER work!
UPS and Fed-Ex do a better job of delivery than the USPS! Churches do a better job of caring for the homeless than the feds. Families do a better job of taking care of children than the Social Services department. Insurance companies do a better job at paying for health care than Medicaid or Medicare does.
There are problems with the way hospitals, doctors, insurance companies, lawyers, and the courts operate when it comes to health care. However, they (combined) is still a better alternative to giving the Federal government control of an industry that makes up 1/5 of all the money spent in the U.S.!
These socialist programs (which have NEVER worked) are nothing more than politicians pandering to constituents who either can not afford more or think they are entitled to more than what they currently have.
Well, lets see… now I will have to watch Chicken Noodle News so I can email the straight scoop to the Obama House. May be even emailing a copy of the 1000 page law they want to pass so “Oyouknowwho” can read it, would be a good idea.

i feel sorry for anyone who wants to listen to my lame-a** phone conversations. surely the government has better things to do than listen to me arguing with my husband over who’s turn it is to take out the trash. i mean, for real.
Humm, to be frank, the Patriot Act does this, ah I think we were asked at one point after 9/11 that if the public notices anything unsual or suspicious to report it to the FBI, my question was what would be cosidered suspicious. I know when I worked at a grocery that wired money, we were required under Federal Law after 9/11 to report any transactions $2000.00/above or multiple transactions of large amounts. Got a cop pissed off at me when I handed him the paerwork he had to fill out to send 2500.00, also required by Federal Law.
And the Feds already monitor your activity online also under the Patriot Act, they look for key words and then investigate. So Big Brother has been keeping his eye out for the last eight years.
