Obama Bashes Police and Doctors
Perhaps Obama, as charming as he is, should write a book called “How to Lose Friends and Not Influence People.” Where do we start with this idiot? First, with an admitted bias and absolutely no facts, he stated Cambridge police acted stupidly in the arrest of Henry Louis Gates Jr. I don’t even have an opinion on this arrest yet, as I’ve heard so many different stories about the incident. This didn’t stop Obama from sounding off, and the police union has responded.
The Cambridge, Mass., police officer who arrested Harvard University professor Henry Louis Gates Jr. and his union are slamming President Obama for saying they reacted “stupidly” to the incident at Gates house last week.
Obama was “was dead wrong to malign this police officer specifically and the department in general,” Alan McDonald, the lawyer for the Cambridge Police Superior Officers Association, told ABC News today.
Sgt. James Crowley, who arrested Gates for disorderly conduct also chimed in today, saying Obama’s characterization was “way off base… I acted appropriately,” Crowley told WBZ Radio in Boston Thursday.
“There was a lot of yelling, there was references to my mother,” he added, “something you wouldn’t expect from anybody that should be grateful that you were there investigating a report of a crime in progress, let alone a Harvard University professor.”
Bill Cosby was shocked at Obama’s reaction:
“I’ve heard about five different reports [on the details of the arrest],” Cosby said on Boston’s WZLX. “If I’m the president of the United States, I don’t care how much pressure people want to put on it about race, I’m keeping my mouth shut.”
“I was shocked to hear the president making this kind of statement,” Cosby said referring to the president’s remarks during last night’s press conference.
Speaking of stupid, Obama made a remark last night that would be defined by that word.
Right now, doctors a lot of times are forced to make decisions based on the fee payment schedule that’s out there. So if they’re looking and you come in and you’ve got a bad sore throat or your child has a bad sore throat or has repeated sore throats, the doctor may look at the reimbursement system and say to himself, “You know what? I make a lot more money if I take this kid’s tonsils out.”
Does anyone have any clue what the heck he is talking about? Have you ever met a doctor that removed tonsils when it wasn’t necessary? Really? Doctors responded too!
In reply, the AAO-HNS stated, “We, too, are in favor of evidence-based medicine that supports quality patient care. President Obama’s statement highlights the complexity of medical decisions like this. However, the AAO-HNS is disappointed by the President’s portrayal of the decision making processes by the physicians who perform these surgeries. In many cases, tonsillectomy may be a more effective treatment, and less costly, than prolonged or repeated treatments for an infected throat.
“For the past several years, the Academy has been developing clinical guidelines based on evidence and outcomes research, including ‘Quality of Life after Tonsillectomy,’ a January 2008 supplement to the journal Otolaryngology—Head and Neck Surgery. We are in agreement with the President’s statement that physicians, patients, and hospitals should make the decisions, based on the evidence, about what’s best for patient care.”
Kristol wrote a great article on this topic this morning:
Does Obama really think pediatricians knowingly order unnecessary tonsillectomies in order to “make a lot more money?” Isn’t this a rather casual slander of a lot of doctors? And in any case, is this what’s driving up health-care costs? It’s probably as likely health-care costs are high because hospitals have too many vice presidents for government relations making $300,000 a year. But I wouldn’t think it appropriate for the president to single them out for attack either.
Second, Obama answered a question about his friend Henry Louis Gates’s run-in with the Cambridge cops, after acknowledging “not having been there and not seeing all the facts,” by nonetheless asserting that “the Cambridge police acted stupidly.” Does he really know enough about what happened to say that? Maybe it was Professor Gates who behaved stupidly, or at least arrogantly. He is, after all, a Harvard professor. I was once a Harvard professor, and my instinct is to side with the Cambridge cops. But if I were president of the United States, I might pause before casually accusing other Americans of acting stupidly unless I were confident I knew what I was talking about.

I was extraordinarily disappointed to hear a sitting President of the United States of America arrogantly “slam” physicians from his bully pulpit. As a non-physician, without any medical knowledge or experience, especially as he has delegated others to take care of his children, furthering his own political career, he states that he knows best what is best for patients (otherwise known as people). While suggesting that people with insurance, Medicare and other forms of insurance learn to “live with and be content with less medical care” since $$ will need to be taken from other places to pay for those who often electively decide not to purchase insurance but buy other more immediately gratifying “things” he had the audacity to state that he has a 24 hour/7 day/week personal physician always with him because (I’m the President of the United States!!!), and thus rules do not apply to him or his family, nor “his house”, (The White House), which is really “our house” since he is only a tenant and the people of the country own the house! However, when the costs of his own poor medical behavior-cigarette smoking-become apparent in years to come-heart disease, stroke, cancer, etc. come to pass the public will be stuck with the costs of bailing him out, and certainly cost will not be an issue!
I am going to disagree on both points since doctors do prescribe unnecessary surgery though profit may not be their motive. In addition the police officer who was justified in arresting due to the vague law on disorderly conduct could have turned his other cheek at the racist rant of a stressed homeowner.
Obama is certainly entitled to his opinion and I have trouble believing anyone but a fool would take his words as gospel if he is the sitting President.
Instead, the officer did his job? I’m not following you here.
When you see how wrong he is on the police issue, unless you’re a moron, you have to ask yourself how this guy will negoitate anything with anyone. He seems ill suited to being in any office that requiers skill with words, and that was his ONLY asset when he came to office. Poor choice of words and a poor thought process on the case.
Nice work Barack… with one comment you managed to alienate 75% of America.
And anyone who has spent any amount of time in the “higher” education system knows the Professor Gates type: bitter, spiteful, bigoted racist with a position of power who felt emboldened to make a political statement.
This is the type of Professor who would change the subject on you when you attempt to engage in a debate- or would give you a poor grade because you actually have an opinion, and done research outside of marxist texts and such. You are fooling no one, Mr Gates.
And Mr President, is this “nuance” you’ve spoke of? “the police acted stupidly”? -please
Obama is out to rip this country to shreds in EVERY way- who can question that such ill-advised statements are divisive… and NOT helpful? He has no idea what happened, he admitted it- and apparently doesn’t care, either… he’s picked his side.
But back in reality, the childish and paranoid Gates completely baited the cop, who acted with admirable restraint, IMO… all he had to do is show his ID and shut up, he was treated with respect. This guy was clearly looking for a fight… and he ought to thank God he didn’t find one.
Obama is going to destroy race relations in this country with his vengeful “get even” mentality… some messiah- Americans should have chosen a fair and sensible human being instead of this embittered nut.

Actually, if it were a profit motive, the doctor would NOT perform the tonsillectomy (ESPECIALLY on a Medicaid patient). There’s more money to be made in seeing them for chronic tonsillitis over and over again.
On the downside, each bout is treated with antibiotics, building a body’s resistance and leading to treatment with different and stronger antibiotics – creating “superbugs” like MRSA.

You must believe that an officer’s job is to arrest every lawbreaker. What would you say if that officer gave you a ticket for going 1 mile over the speed limit?
Obama sucks.
Kerwin, apparently you are purposely missing the point, therefore I will help you out:
#1. Gates was breaking into his home
#2. The lady walking by does not know this is his home, calls 9-1-1 to report a possible break-in in progress
#3. The officer shows up to the home TO DO HIS job.
Now, I am going to pause here and inform you of something: Once an officer is CALLED to a scene, racial profiling CANNOT exist. Therefore, Obama was way off base and had no business going there with his racial profiling comments because IT DID NOT EXIST HERE!
Moving on….
#4. The officer asked Gates to step outside because the officer does not know who Gates is, does not know if Gates is alone since the call came in that TWO people were trying to break in-therefore his safety was NUMBER ONE on his priority list.
#5. Instead of Gates doing what the cop asked or even bother to show him any VALID ID while explaining to him what took place, he automatically started in on the race card.
#6. It got to the point the officer had to call for back up because Gates was out-of-control and when back up arrived, one hispanic and one black officer witnessed Gates acting like an a$$ while refusing to show ID.
#7. Both Hispanic and black officers statements back the WHITE Officers accounts of what took place.
#8. Gates kept on even after the officer warned him to stop because he was causing a disturbance. During this time, he threatened the officer and told him he would be sorry.
#9. Gates is STILL OUTSIDE causing the commotion after being told to stop, all the while EIGHT, that is 8 witnesses see and hear what is going on.
#10. Gates left the officer with no other choice but to arrest him-AND HE SHOULD HAVE!
Crying racism when it does not exist is like the “little boy who cried wolf”, you cry it so many times when it does not exist that when it actually does happen, NO ONE WILL CARE or BELIEVE YOU!!!!!
Sgt Crowley should sue both Gates and Obama for defamation of character, and I guarantee you he would win!!! You do not go around calling/labeling someone a racist when it is not true or you have no proof to back up your libelous accusations.
This man has been hounded by the media, had to endure review, has received threatening phone calls and will have to deal with this BS the rest of his life.
These types of allegations can cost people their jobs, careers all-together, sometimes their family, stress that can lead to long term medical issues and all you can do is sit back and say “he should not have arrested him.”
How about showing your ID idiot and none of this would have happened. God forbid he take the blame for acting like a jacka$$.
Racism cries are old and people are getting tired of them and pissed off. Keep pushing the button because the button will eventually stop working and explode from OVER-USAGE!!!!!
http://specfriggintacular.wordpress.com/2009/07/25/sgt-crowley-should-sue-gates-for-defamation-of-character/
As for the medical issues, the latest to his BS is with respect to small businesses. Apparently he is citing ONE study that shows 18% of small business pay more for health care.
Ummmm…..Duuuhhhhhhhhhh??
It is called VOLUME DISCOUNT-just like with office supplies, medical supplies, laptops, etc…etc… the more you buy the less you pay per item. So holds true for health care.
I found it outstanding when he was braggin about how he does not need to worry about his health care because a doctor follows him around everywhere.
Jesus, is he really this stupid? Like Biden when he is not reading off of his teleprompter…….I just want to thank the 60+ million who voted for this IDIOT! Remember, there were 56 million + who did NOT!
