Wild Horses Couldn’t Drag Them Away From Their Spending Spree

Wasting gargantuan sums of money that it will take us generations to repay isn’t as easy as it sounds. Our liberal rulers have had to use their imaginations to flush so much away so quickly. The clever wild horse welfare bill will burn up the better part of a $billion:

The bill would provide 700 million dollars for the “Restore Our American Mustangs Act” for a horse census every two years and “enhanced contraception” or birth control for horses.

In typical Orwellian fashion, the mustangs are being “restored” by having their numbers reduced. Mark Stein reports that the bill also calls for government bureaucrats to inspect the homes of anyone willing to adopt a mustang, possibly requiring a new Federal Burro of Investigation. As Stein concludes:

In 1971, the United States Congress recognized mustangs as “living symbols of the historic and pioneer spirit of the West.” And surely nothing captures the essence of the “pioneer spirit” than living on welfare in a federal care facility while being showered with government contraceptives. Welcome to America in the gelded age.

The cost of the program is well over $10,000 per horse. But like the exploited workhorse Boxer in Animal Farm, the American taxpayer just keeps trudging obediently forward, while our porcine ruling class arrogantly squanders the wealth created by our labor.

The federal government has no business since wild mustangs and burros are on state territory and are considered state resources. If you look at the definition of “federal” in a dictionary you will find that the central has no business stating what goes on inside of a state.

I can think of two exceptions but one does not apply to this situation as the state has not ceded the land to the federal government. The second is if the federal government owns land in the state and then it is treated like any other landowner being subject to state laws and state taxes.
