Obama: Empathy for the Court But Not For Elderly in Healthcare

Posted on July 21, 2009

Obama wanted empathy where it shouldn’t be (the Supreme Court) and has none where it should be (healthcare). Instead of letting doctors make educated decisions based on their expertise and experience, Obama’s plan puts these decisions in the hands of our ever so “trustworthy” politicians. Listen to this heart touching story of a 100 year old mother in need of a pacemaker. She found a doctor impressed with her spirit and willing to do it. So, Obama is asked if she would have received a pacemaker under his medical plan, his response was a little…heartless?

Jane Sturm told the story of her nearly 100-year-old mother, who was originally denied a pacemaker because of her age. She eventually got one, but only after seeking out another doctor.
“Outside the medical criteria,” Sturm asked, “is there a consideration that can be given for a certain spirit … and quality of life?”
“I don’t think that we can make judgments based on peoples’ spirit,” Obama said. … “Maybe you’re better off not having the surgery, but taking painkillers.

Wizbang:

We don’t need a massive bureaucracy and government health care to make “better decisions within our own families and for ourselves.” We can do that just fine without. In fact, we can do so better without. Because a government system – which is designed to squeeze out free-market providers – resorts to rationing, which is a wholly impersonal method of distributing short supply based primarily on statistics. the “better decisions” are made by computer models and the bureaucrats running them and crunching the numbers. And, let’s be clear: 105 is not a good number for any of the modeled systems, from Canada to Britain.

The Anchoress:

This regime is a very controlling machine, but life itself is a very uncontrollable proposition, and thank God for that. Life throws us curveballs, when all we want is a slider. But if we don’t duck and dodge, if we decide to hang in and take our swings at the messy challenges life throws at us, we will generally look back and say, “it wasn’t what I’d planned or what I’d hoped for, but I’m glad that pitch came my way.”

Whether your swing was a strike out or a home run, at least you were in the game til the end, you were not scratched from the board with the neat, measured flick of a manager’s wrist.

Ameripundit:

Liberals would like you to think that they’re the caring, sympathetic corner of the political spectrum. Turns out they’re anything but caring. The liberal healthcare plan would have senior citizens in need of serious surgery taking pain killers instead. Necessary health procedures would be rationed and require approval from a bureaucrat in Washington. That’s simply cold-hearted and uncaring.

More than half Americans don’t want this socialized medicine, and they are laughing at the snake oil salesmen trying to pull the wool over their eyes.

Cassy Fiano:

If we keep this kind of pressure on politicians in Washington, Obamacare will be DOA. We defeated Hillarycar in 1993 when everyone was so sure that it would pass. We can defeat this, too.

I do not trust a doctor any more than I trust government but I am rather helpless when dealing with either of them.

It’s great to see Obama is all for letting people die against their will.

Obama answered the question by saying that the government will make its decisions based on RULES and check boxes; not on compassion, not on the quality of life, and not on empathy. The primary quality that the government will judge what health care you get will be how much you are worth to the government. Who in their right mind would give the federal government literal control of their lives when they have all the efficiency of the DMV and all the compassion of the IRS?

Since all the lawyers in DC want to “reform” health care when are the doctors and nurses going to get to reform the “legal” system???

Watch out America. the Obama plan is on the march and either obliquely or otherwise plan to phase out anyone who gets in their way. Ayer’s proposed eliminating thirty percent of the population to ease the burden of the rest of society. Does Obama ascribe to that and does that mean babies and the elderly? He calls those opposing his healtcare to the White House so he can turn his hatchet man Rahm Emanuel on them. This administration is not about empathy and equality but about control. .
