Supply and Demand are the driving forces of an economy. The strengthening of the union merely gave the union more buying power while increasing the cost of doing business of their employees. This probably led to a decrease in demand for the products and services produced by those companies but an increase in the demand for those produced by the companies the workers bought from. So I am not even sure there would have been any net difference after was calculated. The decreased demand caused by the Dust Bowl probably helped contribute to the Great Depression and the increased demand cause by World War I most likely led to its end. The Federal Reserve did not help matters since from what I heard they decreased the money supply. Then the banks were giving loans to speculators who bailed out when their speculations went bad much like happened with the current housing crisis. Please!
