Bottom line is those of paying for health insurance are paying 20 times more than in the past 10 years and health care quality is no better for it. I have seen a Doctors office charge me directly for a test then turn around and bill the insurance company 5 times more than what they billed me directly. That's the Doctors office. Also about 60% of medical employees filing claims get it wrong most of the time. Then there's the insurance companies themselves with deliberate red tape and consistently dragging their heels. Yeah, the whole process needs reformed.

"...threatens to restrict patient choice by driving out private insurers, which currently provide coverage for nearly 70 percent of Americans.”

Well, whoop-de-doo!! "Nearly" 70% covered. Which means more than 30% not covered. "Patient choice" is, of course, code for "our fess will go down". If you have full coverage and can afford to pay through the nose for it, or make sure your job has it, and make sure not to get laid off, and make sure not to have a "pre-existing condition", or don't develop a chronic condition which will have your insurance company examining you through an electron microscope to figure out how to cancel you, than private health insurance is great.

If you just want decent, basic health care for all, then universal health coverage is infinitely superior. I know, I have lived in Canada and New Zealand, and the American "health care system" is a tragic joke.

The AMA is FINALLY saying what should have been shouted before the election - nationalized healthcare is the ruin of private practice doctors!! I am so fuming mad that it took them until now to speak up. I wonder how many of these AMA doctors voted for The One - from my circle of friends it was A LOT. You reap what you sow.

I am in total agreement with you, Ruby. Great point.

We must oppose this with every thing within us. Ever watched the A&E show, Intervention? Seen that destructive behavior? The stds from 500+ sexual partners and IV drug usage? We will be paying for this and those individuals will feel even less shame for their actions when healthcare is a RIGHT, not something we seek to avoid by good health management and self control. This is a nightmare.

where exactly is the health care crisis? they make it sound like they have to cart away the dead like during the black death?

the uninsured have access to medical care via emergency rooms and sliding scale systems available in hospital clinics. there are also huge portions of the uninsured that don't want to buy insurance- why should i be forced to pay for that?
