Sotomayor Was La Raza Member

Posted on June 4, 2009

I already wrote about this, but I guess I should do it again cuz others are finally picking up on it.

The Hill reports:

Supreme Court nominee Sonia Sotomayor was a member of the National Council of La Raza for six years, according to her Senate questionaire released Wednesday.
Sotomayor, who would be the first Latina Supreme Court justice, was a member of the group form 1998 to 2004.

….

“Today is a monumental day for Latinos. Finally, we see ourselves represented on the highest court in the land,” said Janet Murguía, NCLR President and CEO. “Judge Sotomayor’s story personifies the American Dream for so many Latinos in this country.”
“By nominating someone with the experience, background, and superb legal credentials of Sonia Sotomayor, President Obama has made an excellent choice for the entire country,” added Murguía. “The President wanted a justice who not only is a respected jurist, but also understands how the law affects the lives of everyday people. Judge Sotomayor embodies those qualities.”
“We commend President Obama for making this historic appointment and for recognizing that excellence and diversity are not mutually exclusive,” concluded Murguía.

This should definitely add to the fuel in the confirmation process. If it doesn’t, something is wrong.

Ameripundit sums it up:

For those not familiar with the National Council of La Raza, it’s an open-borders group focused on pushing identity politics. The group took quite a bit of criticism during the immigration debate, as it pushed for amnesty and became a bully pulpit for calling those who opposed full-0ut amnesty for illegal aliens “bigots”. It’s basically a radical pro-illegal immigration group hell-bent on pushing for amnesty and open borders.

This certainly makes sense considering what else we know about Sotomayer. Not only does she believe that a Latina woman makes better decisions in the court room than a white male, but she flirted with nationalism back in college, supporting independence for Puerto Rico. She then moved on to supporting statehood for the territory — a position Barack Obama’s Department of Homeland Security considers indicative of domestic terrorism.
