Only reasons I can think of that would explain why North Korea's actions would be:

1. We've pushed them to the edge (poor economy, low on resources, etc), and the only other option they have is to bite back, regardless of the consequences

2. They've found themselves a secret ally. Right now, everyone is distracted by N.K's radical decisions. But have anyone stopped to think if China might be secretly behind N.K.'s sudden daring claims?

Imagine this: N.K. launches an assault on the south. Before the US can do anything, China then follows up with their own attack. What would the US do then? Have they considered the possibility that N.K. might not be their only problem?

If I had my own country, and have the economy, technology and human resources to spare... AND above all, am "trusted" by those whom I wish to attack... Would I do it? Well... I just might.

Keep your friends close; but keep your enemies closer. And there's nothing sweeter (and as effective) as a surprise attack.

The US and it's allies must not back down.
It's time for US,S.Korea,Japan, etc to stand up to North Korea. North Korea has made threat after threat for years. It's time to see if North Korea will back up it's harsh words. I do not believe that North Korea really wants a war. It's all rhetoric. If North Korea says it can defeat South Korean and US forces then either do it or shut the hell up. Do people really believe that North Korea will attack South Korea. Don't count on it. And as far as nukes go North Korea would not use a nuclear weapon against South Korea or US. That would be suicide for N.Korea. N.Koreans know that. Bottom line North Korea will continue it's harsh rhetoric to try and intimidate the US and it's allies.
North Korea knows that if they step across the line, that South Korea,US etc would bring the rain. North Korea do us all a favor quit trying to start a war that you cant win.
