The National Council for a New America Launches – Conference Call Report

-By Warner Todd Huston

This morning I listened in on Eric Cantor’s conference call concerning the launch of the National Council for a New America (NCNA) hosted by Congressman Cantor and Senator John McCain.

One of the main points that the two men stressed is that this is “not a contract with America,” but a “conversation” with her. The GOP leaders also stressed that this is an “inclusive” effort with which they want to hear from all manner of Americans adhering to a variety opinions on today’s most pressing Issues. The two also said that this is not an attempt to “re-brand” the GOP.

The first townhall style meeting is to be held on May second in Northern Virginia and along with Cantor and McCain it is expected that Mitt Romney and Jeb Bush will be in attendance.

Additionally, several Governors past and present have joined this effort. Governor Haley Barbour, Governor, Jeb Bush, Governor Bobby Jindal, Senator John McCain, and Governor Mitt Romney.

Senator McCain also mentioned several times that they had contacted Governor Sarah Palin’s office and asked her to join them with future NCNA efforts. Senator McCain made sure to mention that fact several times.

The effort has thus far been broken down into five areas of discussion. The economy, healthcare, education, energy, and national security all will come into focus.

My impression is that it certainly is an attempt to refocus the GOP, maybe not necessarily “re-brand” it but certainly re-introduce Republican principles to the people.

It is sure that the “conversation” meme will be looked upon with skepticism, but let’s face it. They had little choice but to employ the terminology. The GOP is in a weakened state and something does have to be done to vivify the Party.

We shall have to wait and see where this goes, but I see no reason to unnecessarily scoff at the effort. Let’s give it a fair hearing, fellow Republicans, conservatives, Libertarians, Americans.

Here is the press release that has been put out by Representative Cantor’s office detailing the initial thoughts on the NCNA:

Dear Friends,

The United States is the greatest country in the world, a beacon of hope, strength, and prosperity that Democracies worldwide seek to emulate. Our nation and its people have persevered through past challenges with strength derived from our common belief in freedom, liberty, and personal responsibility. Like every American, we look to the future with optimism for the great possibilities of tomorrow. Although today we face some of the toughest times in recent history, together, like so many generations before, we march forward with a vision for an even brighter future for our children.

Today, we are launching the National Council for a New America (NCNA), a caucus of Congressional leaders gathering the expertise of national leaders and doers. We hope that will form the foundation of a concerted, policy-based forum to listen to, partner with, and empower the American people with ideas and solutions that speak directly to the needs of our great nation. This forum will engage in a conversation with America that seeks to remove ideological filters, addresses the realities we are confronting, and speaks to the challenges our citizens are facing.

The NCNA will bring together citizens from across the country to begin a dialogue with the American people through a series of forums, town halls, and an online effort that will engage people in a discussion to meet our common challenges and build a stronger country through common-sense ideas. The NCNA will be a dynamic, forward-looking organization that will amplify the common-sense and wisdom of our fellow citizens through a grassroots dialogue with Republican leaders.

However, this is not a Republican-only forum. While we will be guided by our principles of freedom and security, we will seek to include more than just our ideas. This forum will include a wide open policy debate that every American can feel free to participate in. We do this not just to offer an alternative point of view or to be disagreeable. Instead, we want to ask the American people what their hopes and dreams are. Since January, the President and the Democratic Majority in Congress have – rightfully so – put forward their plan for the future, now we must listen, learn and lead through an honest, open conversation with the American people that will result in building policy proposals that will yield the best results for our nation’s long-term success.

Ultimately, however, we are only launching this effort. The real drivers will have to be the American people. We invite Americans from all walks of life to speak with us as we begin anew rebuilding and reenergizing our nation. We do not pretend to have all the answers nor do we expect the NCNA to remain a static forum. Instead, this is going to be a living, breathing, expanding group that engages Americans from all walks of life. We hope to engage other national leaders, grassroots activists and citizens and invite them to work with us to solve problems with common-sense conservative solutions.

A Blueprint for our Conversation with America

Economy: Real Solutions for Economic Recovery

As the country battles through the worst economic crisis in a generation, we must remain focused on the foundations and institutions that have made us the most prosperous people in the world and the ideas that create jobs and grow our economy. At the same time, we must learn from the mistakes that led to the current crisis and to prevent similar situations from ever occurring again.

Healthcare: Building a 21st Century, Patient-Centered System

No one doubts that our nation’s health care system is in need of reform, but we must strike the right balance that builds on what works and fixes what is broken. All Americans deserve access to high-quality, affordable care. But such coverage cannot come at the expense of their ability to choose their own doctor and have access to the right care, at the right time, in the right setting without waiting in line while sick. In addition, we must continue to focus on the innovation and science that have resulted in thousands of treatments and cures for life-threatening or debilitating diseases while allowing America to remain the leader in research and development worldwide.

Education: Preparing Our Children to Succeed

A high-quality education should not be dependent upon a parent’s income or address. All of America’s children deserve an education that will prepare them for the opportunities and the challenges that await them in the global economy. Yet today, thousands of American children, especially in our inner cities, receive a substandard education or find post-secondary education unaffordable. We must return power from Washington to parents and well-paid teachers who know what’s best for our children.

Energy: Solutions for Energy Independence

American families and businesses cannot afford an energy policy where we are held hostage by foreign oil cartels and dictators. As a nation, we can no longer send billions of dollars overseas each year, often to countries that help fund our enemies. We must implement a comprehensive energy policy that includes traditional fuels, alternative energy, and conservation resulting in affordable, reliable domestic energy. Such a policy will stabilize costs for families and businesses while at the same time creating much-needed jobs here at home.

National Security: Defending American Liberty and Freedom

The threats posed to our nation are more varied and evolving more than perhaps at any other time in our history. Modern communications, technology and the proliferation of weapons of all types have empowered our enemies and those who support them. Our national security policy must reflect these realities while allowing us to maintain technological superiority, support the most well-trained and well-equipped military in the world and have the intelligence capabilities to uncover and prevent attacks before they occur.

Our National Panel of Experts:

Governor Haley Barbour
Governor Jeb Bush
Governor Bobby Jindal
Senator John McCain
Governor Mitt Romney

These are not the only issue areas where we will engage America, but they form a starting point in our revitalization effort. In the coming months, the NCNA will focus our attention outside of Washington where American families are living and raising their children, working toward the promise of a better tomorrow, and where common-sense ideals are valued over pundits and the political winds. We know America’s best days are ahead, but we need to work hard to ensure that promise. We also know that the American people want choices and alternatives – that there is no one right solution for what America and its people need. This is what our country was founded on, this is what we stand for, this is what we hope the National Council for a New America will provide and we ask our fellow citizens to join with us.

Sincerely,

John Boehner, Eric Cantor, Mike Pence, Cathy McMorris Rodgers, John Carter, Pete Sessions, David Dreier, Kevin McCarthy, Roy Blunt

Mitch McConnell, Jon Kyl, Lamar Alexander, John Cornyn, John Thune

Brad Dayspring
Press Secretary
Office of the Republican Whip
Congressman Eric Cantor

If only we knew that the efforts here will reflect the values of Americans, conservative and moderate, this would be potentially positive efforts to take back the country and the government to REDUCE the size and scope of its influence on “we, the people” and to bring some sanity to the notion of Federal spending. States’ rights could become the watchword for the American taxpayer to look for in order to believe that Mr. Taxpayer MAY have some hope in regaining his “life, liberty, and pursuit of of happiness” as the Founders wanted for this Democratic experiment called “the United States of America.

My friends and I at Grassfire will not participate in more RINO rebranding efforts and request that you remove John McCain from the panel if you ever hope to be taken seriously by millions of angry betrayed Americans. Thank you.

  3. RMS Consultants on April 30th, 2009 10:24 pm

I and most of my site members will NOT !!!!!
participate in any way.Oh by the way, McCain needs to hit the road with Arlen Specter.

I am most interested in the Governor Palin connection they are trying to publicize here.
Governor Palin would be a nuudge(sic) to agree to attend these press conferences for the “boys.” The last time she was with them they practically stood behind her and picked her up by the elbows and set her aside. They hogged the TV cameras and the platforms with there endless blather.
Governor Palin is not a nuudge and she should avoid this chance at acting out horizontal hostility. Reagan warned of these chances to bash each other in the party but Republicans have no idea how to structure group dynamics to avoid this.
The only other things I have to say are that:
I saw the Cantor kid’s give-away smile as he announced this group’s formation. The grin was a give-away as to how his ego was being stroked with this chance to be hogging the TV camera. Blather, blather and more blather.
Mc Cain has no idea what Governor Palin should or should not be doing.
Bobby Jindal needs to be put in a corner and not pushed out as a front man for my Party.
The Alaskan Governor has made it clear she is most interested in running Alaska and watching over its fiscal welfare.
Governor Palin would be wise to avoid this group and the Mc Cain’s Siren Call into dangerous waters .
The rest of us in the Party can sit back and watch what the “boys” have to offer.

I was excited to hear about this Council until I read that John McCain is a part of it. The Republicans still don’t get it. It is the Conservatives in this country that feel we have been betrayed by what used to be our party. We want to get back to the traditional, conservative values that made this country so great. We’ve had enough of this “moderate” crap! Where are the leaders who will stand up for our U.S. Constitution and the Bill of Rights? Where are the leaders who will stand up for conservative values? We have been compromising our values and look what it has gotten us. A lost election and a Marxist in the White House. All this and you still want to go down the middle of the road? McCain is not a true conservative and does not represent us. That is why we lost the election. Throw him out! I cannot believe that the Republican Party still doesn’t get it! Didn’t you hear “the people” at the Tea Parties?

  6. Andrew Billups on May 1st, 2009 9:08 am

I agree that John McCain’s name should be removed if you intend to be taken seriously. Also, any RINO who has voted for massive inter-generational borrowing lacks credibility in my book. Ditto for lax enforcement of border security (Lindsay Graham). Not on board yet, but I’m watching with interest.

  7. jess on May 1st, 2009 9:45 am

I’m a conservative, but I know the Bush name is political poison. This New America council can gain some credibility by removing Jeb Bush from its panel. And this is not to mention John McCain. He needs to go as well.
Listening to John McCain, gives me the same feeling as listening to Obama. It’s irritating, annoying and I switch the station or channel.

  8. Faith on May 1st, 2009 11:16 am

I was excited to hear the announcement of this new council. However, after hearing who will be the representatives. I lost my enthusiasm quickly. Bush only reminds everyone of Pres. Bush. Mc Cain reminds everyone of this past election that lost it for us! Palin although I like her is too controversial. Jindal I like but he is not a good speaker. Romney is ok but lost momentum long long ago!
If you really want to make a difference for our party, you will need Reps that are NEW and DIFFERENT! Sorry gentlemen, right idea wrong panel. =( PS. You are STILL not listening to your people!!!!
As for the liberals in comments .. its ok, we are ALL about to recieve change that NONE of us wanted! If you think what your Obama is doing will only effect middle upperclass, you are wrong! If you think you will get some extra $ from Obama you are wrong because he is taxing it right back out of your pocket plus much more! How blind you fools are! It won’t be this new panel that will win the Rep elections .. it will be Obama himself! Wait and see! As for the Reps elected .. we elected them! They either listen up or they don’t get re-elected! Simple as that! Besides, Dems have far more to worry about with Pelosi, Reid, Biden Murphy and Dodd just to name ONLY a few. Oh and big ole FLOP, Spector! Good ridence to him!

  9. HappyinAZ on May 1st, 2009 12:42 pm

I’m delighted that these gentlemen will put forth this effort. The Republican party has been hijacted by folks with religious agendas. We need to include their voice…but not be dominated by it. Republicans have alwsys stood for less taxes, strong military, small goverment…all issues that we CAN agree on.

By being narrow “purists” the far right mangaged to help get Obamam elected. A big mistake. We must come together and agree on the role of government while agreeing to disagree on personal issues such as gay marriage.

I am also pleased that Mr.McCain is helping to lead the charge. He is an expierienced legislator that will fight for less spending. We need EVERYONE to come togther and fight this push for intrusive government.

The time for divisive name calling is over…if you want less taxes/smaller government and a strong militray…you need to join this effort.

  10. rollands on May 1st, 2009 1:11 pm

As a life-long member of the GOP (until recently) I’ve written numerous letters to both the state and national headquarters of this party listing many issues on which it has taken a stance directly opposite mine as it became more and more conservative. Examples: Abortion should be a woman’s choice–leave government out of it; The GOP does not have exclusive rights to morality and patriotism; The GOP should put the will of the people first–not big business; The GOP should stop pandering to the religious right; The GOP has neglected our infrastructure including roads, bridges, electrical grid in favor of a bloated military/industrial complex; and all the while spending like drunken sailors on a senseless war. The list goes on.

One Colorado operative from the state headquarters informed me by letter that, …”if you don’t like the way politics is played in the U.S., perhaps you should consider leaving the country.”

My answer to the GOP attempt to redefine itself?: I followed Alren Specter’s example and registered as a Democrat. I’m sick of being “blown off” by the arrogant, elitists of the far right and the stupidity of the many blindly loyal bloggers that have not yet gotten the message: This party doesn’t care about you or me. The best thing for the party and the future of our country is to leave it. Of course we need a two-party system, but this party should not be one of them.

  11. Lester Gabriel on May 1st, 2009 11:32 pm

I will find out tomorrow morning how open this group is to the ideas of grassroots Americans. Perhaps I will find out why they left off of their agenda four of the issues that Americans are the closest to consensus on, and on which the Democrats have clearly taken the side of special interests. One is the spending of our Grandchildren’s money–no I don’t mean spending–I mean throwing it down numerous ratholes. Secondly, is our failure to uphold our laws regarding illegal aliens. Thirdly, is the issue of abortion, where only 18% of Americans support the current policy of abortion on demand with no restrictions. Finally, is the issue of same-sex unions or “marriage”, where Americans consistently vote for referendums or Constitutional amendments to maintain our traditional values.

  12. suz blackburn on May 2nd, 2009 3:23 am

WOW, just read through the comments and I was miffed yet excited to find a platform reaching out to the people.

As I read each post, my mind was racing. Not one of us is happy with how things are going.

We need to start somewhere, why not here? This is another vehicle for our voice to be heard.

As patriots, we need to set aside, right, left, center, progressive, independent, etc. This is part of the problem. We are focused on the WRONG STUFF.

If we are to MOVE forward, we must let go of the past! In order for things to change, we need to change.

It’s time to build a team. We are the people of this great country. Stand up and fight for what you believe in! You have a voice.

The Tea Party movement has sparked the nation, it’s time to take action. On April 15th our voices rang. The Tea Party is poised to grow stronger, momentum is building for 7/04 and 9/12.

We all know, without risk there is NO reward. Can we afford not to take action?

It is time to unite, let our voices be heard.

All I know is “my country is NOT for SALE”. It’s time to look ahead, lick our wounds, and do something rather than TALK about it!

When millions UNITE, can you imagine what will happen? It’s time to change history.

  13. Michelle Lewis on May 2nd, 2009 10:06 am

This is an interesting idea and I hope that it works. I am a Republican and I did vote for McCain/Palin because Obama scares me. If the Republican Party wishes to be strong again my advise to you all is to offer sensible, common sense alternatives that uplift the country. This will contrast with Obama and the Democrats who are bringing this country down and trashing the American way of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness by imposing government as the solution to all our issues.

  14. H. Lee on May 2nd, 2009 12:01 pm

Repeal the 16Th Amendment. Health insurance for everyone, including under employed and unemployed that is equal to the plan the congress has, equal trade with any and all countries or no trade at all, the use of our own resources for our people, protect our boarders, get the federal government out of our pockets as well as our business, let the younger workers own their own retirement and health care. But just a few things, do you think you can deliver?

  15. G Leisy on May 2nd, 2009 12:34 pm

    SARAH SPEAKS FOR ME!!
I WON’T HAVE ANYTHING TO DO WITH JOHN MC CAIN AND HIS ‘BIPARTISANSHIP’ NO MORE DOLES, NO MORE MC CAINS
WE WANT CONSERVATIVES!! OR I’M GOING TO RE-REGISTER AS INDEPENDENT!

  16. Editor on May 2nd, 2009 12:35 pm

I, too, was excited to read about this new effort until I saw John McCain’s name. Or McSame as he was called. I voted for him, but feel like I was given an option of the lesser of two evils, or the evil of two lessors. I chose the former, we got the latter. McCain has infuriated me over the years and many times I have screamed “He is a Democrat”. The election was between Democrat and Democrat Lite. I would jump into this, but for John McCain. Eric is my Rep and I support him 100%, but he needs to rethink who our leaders will be. John McCain is a good man, but not a good Republican or a good conservative.

  17. G Leisy on May 2nd, 2009 12:53 pm

So we both have great rep’ves, mine is K.McCarthy, maybe they’ll get the message and work on their fellow reps.

  18. Stan on May 2nd, 2009 1:05 pm

Will we continue to support Czars and Dictators, that use our tax dollars to give UAW controlling interest in General Motors and socialize the rest of our free enterprise system?
I am very happy to support the efforts being made to protect the taxpayers and save our Nation from the wild and arrogant spending in Washington. We need honest leaders to represent the people, not Czars or dictators to rule and control us.
It would be an honor to support this effort if the purpose is to uphold and enforce the constitutional laws of our forefathers and to restore Christianity as the foundation of America.
The only way our voice will ever be heard in Washington and local government is to support and quit bickering about the people that are making an effort to do so. We will become strong enough to turn Washington’s arrogant laughs into frowns only if we unite.
(United we stand divided we fail)

  19. Fay on May 2nd, 2009 1:19 pm

    I agree with Suz.
I attended a tea party and it’s amazing how people united together.
This is a very good idea you have with the meetings and talking to people.
Don’t let these negative comments that have been posted here affect this venture. It is a very good one.
I think your group is a good one.

  20. Dee on May 2nd, 2009 1:41 pm

I would love to join this group, however, I’m not satisfied that John McCain is part of this movement. I voted ‘Republican’ in the past election, to no avail. John McCain is STILL a ‘buddy’ to the Liberal Democrats. His campaign was just about ‘dead’ when he decided to buddy-up with Kennedy on ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION, then he changed his mind, to get VOTES!! .. AMERICAN’S don’t want AMNESTY, which is where McCain still stands. McCain lost my ‘interest’ during the campaign when he decided that he still wanted to make ‘nice’ with the Democrats. Sarah Palin ‘opened the door’ on many occassions for McCain to walk thru, but he blindly ignored her efforts! McCain still doesn’t get it!! American’s want a true ‘conservative’, not one that believes he has to be ‘nice’ to liberals and compromise OUR values. I live in a ‘border state’ (Calif.) and WE have paid the price for many years. fighting the ‘illegal immigration’ issues that ‘McCain’ seems to embrace. Kick ‘McCain’ off, and you’ll probably get more interest. The GOP definately needs ‘new blood’ and those that are willing to stand up for Conservative Values, with NO compromises!

I attended a ‘Tea Party’ in April, and believe me, people are plenty MAD at both parties! We’re in this ‘dilema’ because we’ve elected people who are only interested in their ‘own interests’. Obama is taking our country towards SOCIALISM & ‘BIG GOVERNMENT’ spending. The only way WE will get Obama to listen to ‘the people’ is to protest LOUDLY.. and WE need to boot out all of Congress, especially Pelosi, Reid & Dodd.. I’m sure there’s a lot of ‘buyers remorse’ from the ‘Democrats’ who voted for Obama .. “Change & Hope” is what he ran on, but the liberal media and the Democrats DISMISSED what Obama is really all about.. They voted for the most ‘inexperienced, nieve & liberal’ person we’ve ever had running for POTUS.. Now, do you see where he was going with all his ‘promises’?? SOCIALISM! Is Obama a ‘natural born citizen’? Why won’t Obama just answer everyone’S question and PROVE that he’s eligible to be President.. The ‘Tea Party’ movement will be asking this question more and more. I do believe that there will be a citizen ‘BACKLASH’ against this ‘illegal alien’ who sits in the White House. If the courts won’t investigate his eligibility, American citizens WILL!! Congress should be ‘nervous’ in 2010 .. American Citizens are finally starting to ‘wake-up’ to what this Administration is doing and we’re mad as hell.. and won’t take this much longer! I hope the GOP is listening, once and for all. WE need more ‘common sense’ and those that are willing to stand up and FIGHT for the Country we all love and know.. This Administration is all about a POWER GRAB and Republican’s are letting it happen!

  21. Bob on May 2nd, 2009 2:35 pm

We need a new conservative center, but get McCain out of it–probably Romney too. And Lord save us from more of Graham’s silliness.

Jeb Bush is the brightest of the Bush men–did an excellent job as Florida’s governor and now just needs to show himself as his own man–not a repeat of Brother George. Will the national media allow such? Probably will work against it.

But what does it take to understand that McCain is a rino of the first order? A new face for conservatives in America? McCain is a turd in the punch bowl (pardon my French).

  22. Gary on May 2nd, 2009 3:10 pm

What is it going to take for our party to realize that we do not want to be moderates?
The United States already has a moderate and liberal party, they call them Democrats and Independents!
We have got to move to the right, the same place that Regan was.
I cannot stand by a party, although I voted for McCain, that continues to lose opportunities and shuffle away values in the name of conforming.
I dont want to conform ! I want to stand for something and my party had damn well wake up to that.
We at one point had all of the same branches of government that the Dems now control. What did we do with it?
One thing that seems to be a missing point in the last election is that there were a number of people in our party that stayed home because of McCain, and here he is now at the center of this endevour. WE STILL HAVENT GOT IT !!
Get someone like Gov Palin in here, stop making it the good old boy network over and over again and lets run a strong conservative for office !
WE are the party of fiscal responsibility, we are the party of accountability, we are the party of a strong military.
Why do we have to meet the Dems in the middle? Why do WE have to change to accomodate them? why not the other way around!
My father was a Dem all his life, but he gave me one bit of advice I have taken to heart. ” Stand for something, or you will fall for anything!”
When are we going to start standing up for what we as a party believe?
I have been watching the votes in the House and the Senate since jan.
Our people are trying, but they cave on the really important stuff that defines our party. The moral issues, like HR 1913, the confirmation of Attorney General Holder !
you knew where he was coming from from day one!
Now, he is trying to put on trial the people that gave advice to our president so that he could keep us safe !
And you want me to stand behind a party that allows that?
get a life ! or better yet, grow a pair !
Until we start acting like the party we are, we will loose and loose and loose. and our country as we know it will be flushed down the john!

  23. Blu on May 2nd, 2009 3:11 pm

This seems designed to SOUND good, however, we the PEOPLE have started a conversation on our own, i.e. the TeaParties. We don’t need tired old Republican blood. I might have been interested in getting involved or at least listening until I found John McCain was involved in this. When will you folks learn McCain is NOT conservative. He should leave along with Spectacle. He is a Libereral enabler and it is because of him I left the Republican party to become an Independent Conservative. His values or lack thereof are not MY values. I will be doing all I can to help elect a new Senator for AZ. Many folks across the country will only associate Jeb Bush with the failed policies of his father and brother. I voted neither Repub or Dem in the last election as niether candidate has any American values. We the people will be discussing TERM LIMITS for all elected people. The power grab has got to stop, The over the top spending has got to stop, the endless legislation of our private lives has got to stop. Give the power back to the states, abandon the IRS and implement a new tax system. END entitlements and OBEY THE IMMIGRATION LAWS AND CLOSE OUR BORDERS. Plenty of folks enter our country each year LEGALLY, follow the laws and learn our customs and language while being free to keep their customs and language in their homes and places of worship. There will be no change in the elections in 2010 and 2012 unless we start a conversation with new blood, truly conservative Americans with love of country and understanding of our Constitution. Sarah Palin is a good start so I pray she does not add her name to this tired old group.

  24. Tom on May 2nd, 2009 6:17 pm

I am glad to know that the Republicans are trying a new effort. First off folks, don’t blame McCain for all the party’s messes. Whether he is liberal or conservative, John McCain is probably the biggest patriot in the United States Senate. The reason he lost last year is because most Americans did not like the Republican Party.

But I agree somewhat. I think that the NCNA should be rejuvenated with young people. I would love to help out with this. McCain would be a great mentor to our “kids” and the party would benefit well in the future.

  25. pearl on May 2nd, 2009 7:53 pm

THis is a good start. However, we already lost with the
McCain name. He should step back for the good of conservatives. The only person i see there that I would vote for is Mitt Romney. He was needed in the last election for us to win. He knows what to do with the economy and everything else.

  26. Mickie on May 2nd, 2009 9:15 pm

After reading through the comments I realized that there is a lot of anger out there. If we are going to make our voice heard our message needs to be clear and to the point. We need to get rid of the baggage and move on if we are to succeed. I’m from NY my vote didn’t even count so imagine how ticked off I am. This is a good start, the republlican party has gotten caught up in the politics of politicians and forgotten about the people. If this helps renew the ideal that the elected are there to represent the people and not their own agendas I’m all for it.

  27. suz blackburn on May 2nd, 2009 9:39 pm

Perhaps, McCain should focus on VET/Military, J.Bush young people, Palin women,? Other suggestions for Young people? Ethnic americans?

  28. suz blackburn on May 2nd, 2009 9:40 pm

p.s. Please keep party politics out of the picture and focus on rebuilding AMERICA, before we lose sight.

It causes me a BIG belly laugh when I review some of the people called upon by the GOP to re-brand the party. It’s kinda like putting OLD and STALE wine in new bottles and expecting to sell the same.

And the fact that the meeting with Mitt Romney, Jeb Bush and Eric Cantor was held at a Pizza joint, is going to FORCE me to throw up from EXCESSIVE laughter!

This “listening tour” has to get out of the usual places. If I see even one event in Los Angeles or New Hampshire or Iowa, I’ve had it. I’m so tired of seeing the same states paid attention to and the same issues rehashed over and over and over again. Cantor has this on his website but only people who live in his district can contact him. Who are they going to listen to? People stuck in Democratic districts outside of the DC area are out of luck.

National Council of LaRaza………National Council for a New America. Hmmm, wonder what they were thinking? NEW AMERICA??? I think not.

Geez, the majority of these people are RINOs and AMNESTY lovers. These are many of the people who have participated in the dysfunction of the Republican party. All talk and NO principles. Parading as republicans {believing we have short memories,} they’ll swing left or right, not out of principle but out of political
    expedience.

When the hell are Republicans and Conservatives going to learn their lesson? Same ole – same ole. These self appointed leaders are doing everything they possibly can to subdue and control the Tea Party movement while forcing an amnesty down our collective throat. It shocked them and angered them that, for the most part, no one wanted to hear their forked tongues. Now the game’s on…..how to bring the base to heel? How to get American citizens to eat the proverbial crap sandwich.

Never do these charlatans speak of ‘Representative Republic.’ The only time they mention the U.S.
Constitution is when they believe it will schmooze the base. They cherry pick the laws they wish to uphold and refuse to enforce those they don’t like. They are participants in legislating around our Constitution. There is but a hair’s breath between them and the liberal/Marxist democrats. All they speak of is destructive
bipartisanship which eliminates the checks and balances meant to keep this government from acquiring even greater power.

They must destroy the symbol of Reagan and his powerful belief in the U.S. Constitution so that conservatives might finally bend over and accept their disloyalty. They had better look at the new Rassmussen poles. The numbers will give them apoplexy.

69% of Republicans say congressional Republicans have lost touch with GOP voters throughout the nation.
More than half of the country, 54% of unaffiliated voters prefer gridlock and do not want the Republicans to work with Obama!

I certainly don’t want a “new AmeriKa.” Conservatives simply want the United States of America returned to our Constitution and the rule of law, which is our only protection from those who are working to destroy our liberty and freedoms, as our founders knew so well.

okay we all agree were on the same page. We’re mad as hell, so lets unite and quit the crap and driving the WEDGE/divide away from our beliefs. Find another Reagan move forward. We cannot afford to talk about it and do nothing, can we?
