PA RINO Specter goes home to Dems

Posted on April 28, 2009

Politico has Specter’s statement. Key excerpt:

“Last year, more than 200,000 Republicans in Pennsylvania changed their registration to become Democrats. I now find my political philosophy more in line with Democrats than Republicans.”

Read sentence one and then sentence two. Sounds like the number of voters are “more in line” with his re-election aspirations. This obviously has nothing to do with principle, unless perpetual incumbency can be called a “principle.”

Good riddance. I wonder what the Party Fat Cats are thinking about their decision to back Specter over Toomey when Toomey had a real chance to send Specter to the glue factory in 2004? More GOP wisdumb to reflect upon.

Let’s just look at this as the latest rallying call, not as some sort of sulking moment. Let the chaff fall away, weed the garden, whatever…fight on.

Michelle reminds us of this from the The Hill:

News of Sen. Arlen Specter’s party switch today comes after several months of strong statements to the contrary by the Pennsylvania Senator.

In a March 17th interview with The Hill, Specter said he absolutely would not switch parties.

Carol Platt Liebau at Town Hall says:

To put it politely, Specter is switching parties so he can go where the line is shortest. There is no real competition for the Democratic nomination back to the Senate; on the Republican side, he was running 21 points behind Pat Toomey.

So if one isn’t over-burdened with any sense of ideological commitment (and honor, given all the years the GOP has taken flack for supporting a “moderate” like Specter over more conservative candidates), Specter’s move makes perfect sense. If it’s all about holding office — and not much else — he’s done the rational thing.

That Arlen Specter calls himself a Democrat is like a bulldog calling himself ugly.

Glad to have you Mr. Spector!!! The seat was going to turn Democrat anyways, why not have a Democrat with a provent political track record necessary to win elections.

Republicans have been pretty much “run out” of the entire north east, west coast, south east and chunks of the mid-west. The only thing they have left is the so called “Bible Belt” and even that, they’re barely hanging on to. Reagan would puke to see what these extremists have done to the party. You call yourselves Conservatives but you’re the farthest thing from it. You’ve abandoned the Conservative values to embrace neocon values and are destroying your party from within like stage 4 cancer.

Who’s next to defect from the sinking GOP party? We’ll gladly take them!

    Good Riddance Mr. Spector.

    Syntax,

Go take your meds–you’re delusional. I’ve got a ten spot that says, a year from now, Harry Reid will be staring into his bathroom mirror every morning and moaning, “What the f*** was I thinking when I let that Keystone State idiot into the club?”

Wanna bet? Or do you have a hair on your rosy-red?

Well apparently, if the conservative blogs are any indication, the GOP still doesn’t get it. If you continue to cater to the extreme right, 20% of the likely voters, then eventually you can expect to represent only those 20%. Which in turn will lead you to about a 20% presence in the government. Personally I wish they would get their act together. As lifetime independent I really don’t want to see a one-party government.

Republicans end the circular firing squad before its too late!

GOP Just does not get it. High income, small gov, low tax supporters like myself are being pushed out by the dogmatic religious right that cares more about abortion, and gays getting married.

    Great Stuff!

    MarkJ, I’ll take that ten.
The GOP teabaggers really don’t understand that they become little more than fodder for late night comedy.

I hate to say it (not really), but, Geez, how is it possible that even the smarter ones in that party can’t seem to recognize that name-calling, hatred, and temper tantrums do not appeal to Americans.

Newsflash: There WILL BE NO religous theocracy in the U.S.A.

oh but there will, just not the one you think.

    Dibs,

Oh contrare my wayward comrade. Seems your right wing gulag/theocracy has one less member.

Let’s see, how many Americans vote for men in black robes to decide on each woman’s reproductive choice? Hmm??? c’mon, raise your hands.

Dang, guess there really AREN’t that many of you crazies left!

  11. Syntax on April 29th, 2009 1:53 am

These right-wingers are the GOP’s problem, not ours. If they have no answers and no rational thought, they resort to “liberal this” and “leftist that” and “moonbat this” and “nutroot that” and follow up with typical school yard bully juvenile nonsense. They have alienated themselves down to a smoldering nub and have completely dragged the GOP with them. If you don’t agree with everything they whine about, you must be a liberal. What a bunch of immature tea-baggers.

Mark J: I made a bet with one of you (whats left of you) four years ago that America will soon recognize you fringe right for the d##kheads that you are and four years later…tea-bagging parties!!! Who do I thank for that? You are the greatest liberals in the World and you’re not even smart enough to realize it!

Let me get this straight: PA. has Murtha and Specter. lmao lol lol lol

I heard Hugo Bama is going to buzz the City of Brotherly Love so he can lose PA. for Arlen and Fat John.

Don’t say where you heard these flight plans. TOP SECRET> ah huh!

In response to Syntax, what hee refers to as the Bible Belt is actually the Real America. The Left Coast and the Northeast are merely the remaining vestiges of the Soviet Union tha have ye to surrender.
