John Kerry Says Time Is Ticking On Climate Change Legislation

Posted on April 23, 2009

There are several other fun stories out there, such as Hillary threatening to put Iran in timeout, Janet Napolitano blaming Canada for the 9/11 terrorists, and mobile phones getting a bit out of control, but nothing could be more fun this Thursday that Senator Waffles wading in to the climate change legislation issue

Senator John F. Kerry, opening a hearing on global warming on Earth Day, says this is a “make-or-break” year on the issue and calls on the United States to spearhead the effort.

Convening the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, the Massachusetts Democrat notes that a key international conference on climate change is later this year in Copenhagen, Denmark.

“The clock is ticking on the best chance the countries of the world will have to marshal an effective global response,” he said in his prepared opening remarks.

“All policymakers involved in this process need to realize that if we aim too low, America and the global community will fail to do what is necessary to meet this challenge. It’s that simple.”

Wasn’t that what Kyoto was about? That legislation that was oh so important (and which Kerry voted against joining in 1998) and would solve AGW? Correct me if I am wrong, but, Kerry is part of the Senate, which had majority control during the first two and last two years of Bush’s time in office, and is still the majority party. So, could he certainly submit legislation, could he not? And, anyhow, why should we listen to John Kerry? As the Climahysteric talking point goes, he’s not a climatologist.

Of course, it is easy for Kerry to push climate change legislation and treaties, since he is a poodle to a very rich woman, so, the rise in the cost of everything will not affect him. Nor will it affect this low carbon nut

The California Democrat, meanwhile, compared the proposal to the nation’s buildup to fight World War II.

“We pulled ourselves out of the Great Depression when we mobilized to fight World War II. I believe we need a mobilization now, we need a mobilization to fight global warming!” she said.

Ooooooooo-kay!

Meanwhile, a very interesting interview with Anthony Watts, who may not be a climatologist, but sure knows way more than Kerry and Boxer.

So many errors here, it is fun to laugh at you.

    1) Senator Kerry has been involved in every one of the global warming conferences and is the Democratic expert on this issue in the Senate – per Boxer and Reid. He has been for dealing with this issue since the first Senate hearing which he was part of that Gore chaired in 1987.

    2) There was NO vote on Kyoto. It was not brought to the Senate floor. The vote you are likely referring to (Byrd/Hagel) was a resolution passed 4 months before Kyoto finished that called for the treaty to include countries like India and China. Kyoto did not include this and though Clinton signed it, he never submitted it to the Senate for approval.

    3) In December 2007, Kerry was the sole member of the Congressional delegation to go to Bali. The reason – it was 40 hours roundtrip by commercial flights to spend 36 hours there. One thing accomplished was that the framework included the undeveloped countries. (Kerry incidentally was praised by the head of Bush’s team there for his efforts leading up to and at that conference. One member of that team said that without Kerry there would have been no treaty.)

4)Kerry was also the Congressional representative at Poznan – as well as Obama’s unofficial representative.

    5) Any global warming treaty will be handled by the SFRC, which Kerry chairs

    As to the Senate:
The Republicans had control at the start of the Bush years until Jeffords switched to independent and caucused with the Democrats. The Democrats were then in the majority, by one vote, until January 2003. The Republicans were then in control until January 2007 with significant majority. In 2007, the Democrats again had a 1 vote majority. The Road block Republicans blocked everything the Democrats tried to pass – filibustering which requires the Democrats get 60 votes.

As to submitting legislation, he did – with Olympia Snowe as the co-sponsor.

Kerry is the husband of a very wealthy woman, who is the same person she was when she was considered the charming, beautiful, brilliant wife of Senator Heinz. They met when she was a NGO American delegate to the Rio global warming conference and he was there as part of the Senate delegation.

The global climate hoax is little more the left’s version of the Trojan horse, allowing the UN and the international leftist community access to the sovereignity of this once proud nation. This will then morph quickly into all rights and freedoms being subject to those who loathe traditional American values and rights -that they might tear them down.
