Rep. Jane Harman , the California Democrat with a longtime involvement in intelligence issues, was overheard on an NSA wiretap telling a suspected Israeli agent that she would lobby the Justice Department to reduce espionage-related charges against two officials of the American Israeli Public Affairs Committee, the most powerful pro-Israel organization in Washington.
Harman was recorded saying she would “waddle into” the AIPAC case “if you think it’ll make a difference,” according to two former senior national security officials familiar with the NSA transcript.
In exchange for Harman’s help, the sources said, the suspected Israeli agent pledged to help lobby Nancy Pelosi , D-Calif., then-House minority leader, to appoint Harman chair of the Intelligence Committee after the 2006 elections, which the Democrats were heavily favored to win.
Seemingly wary of what she had just agreed to, according to an official who read the NSA transcript, Harman hung up after saying, “This conversation doesn’t exist.”
She denies the conversation, which would have been picked up using other means than a person going down to the landline switch box and actually tapping it, but multiple other, though anonymous, sources, it happened, it was caught, and she is lying through her teeth.
Justice Department attorneys in the intelligence and public corruption units who read the transcripts decided that Harman had committed a “completed crime,” a legal term meaning that there was evidence that she had attempted to complete it, three former officials said.
Supposedly, according to the story, all investigations were squashed because AG Alberto Gonzales wanted her help in attempting to get the NY Times to not reveal the Terrorist Surveillance Program. And she tried. If true, this goes beyond normal politics, and into the realm of blackmail. The ends do not justify the means, even in trying to get the Grey Lady to not publish the story. The investigation into Harmon’s conduct should have gone forth. Yes, sometimes distasteful things must be done in the name of national security, but not dismissing what could have been a criminal investigation.
Of course, many of the Usual Useful Idiots are questioning the timing, failing to understand the most basic way the NSA would gather intelligence, including monitoring the communications of a known Israeli agent, and barely noting Harmon’s illegal activity.
More: so, I am checking what so many on the Left have to say, and, as expected, they seem to be mostly, if not solely, finding fault with “the Bushies,” as uber-conservative (only in his mind) Excitable Andy writes, as well as completely missing that there was a FISA warrant to monitor the communications of the Israeli agent. Also, they are now digging for ways to find Harmon completely innocent. The operative word would be “corruption.”

I think Pelosi is still gunning for Harmon’s head and all the lefty anti-Semites are out in full force. The article is a cluster of anonymous sources impossible to verify.
Key Point:
What is new is that Harman is said to have been picked up on a court-approved NSA tap directed at alleged Israel covert action operations in Washington.
The left can’t connect this to any “illegal wiretaps on Americans”. It was authorized by the FISA court.
They are trying to make it out like Bush was tapping members of Congress illegally, as well as saying, or “just wondering,” why Americans were being tapped without a warrant. Which is showing that their left wing blinders made them miss that there was a warrant for the Israeli agent, and she got caught in it.
The Left will probably be misconstruing this story for the rest of the week. At which point, Obama will do something else really stupid, and they will move on to attempting to defend him yet again.

The posturing on the comments are ridiculous. If you think Harmon did nothing wrong, then you are soft on defense. If you think that Harmon broke the law and should be punished, then you are a “lefty anti-Semite”.
The truth of the matter is that the Bush DOJ knew about the scandal and used it to further their political goals. The information was lawfully obtained and Harmon should be prosecuted for breaking the law. Now that Obama took over, he is doing the right thing regardless of party lines.

Harmon did something wrong, William, as did Gonzales. Obstruction of justice, conspiracy, corruption, and blackmail. This went beyond politics, a dirty business on its own.
I heard Rep Harmon being interviewed by the BBC I think it was, and could not believe the dance around direct questions like – did you have this conversation? Well the answer was truly worthy of Bill Clinton’s talent for not answering a question. Disgraceful. She did it and she knows she did it but will deny pretending to be all indignant that some one would question her honor, right up until she is doing the perp walk out the capital door.
We must stop this lunacy in Washington, and take our country back.

First of all Im married to an Israeli so there can be no anti-semitism claim (OK,she’s a Morrocon Israeli, they can be extremely irritating!)
It really irks me that we are really one of the only unconditional supporters of Israel ( financialy, united nations etc.)and they would have the chutzpah to plant spys over here!! You get the wrong President like Obama, who’s a wolf in sheeps clothing when it comes to Israel, and he could do all kinds of damage in their direction.
And trust me when I say that he is NO FRIEND OF ISRAEL! He will say what people want to hear at this time. Read between his lines and comments from his past and present.
