Obama Won’t Prosecute CIA Agents for Waterboarding

Of course it would be an outrage to me if he were to prosecute these agents for following orders of a former president. It would also set him off on the wrong foot with the agency. However, expect a little faux outrage from the base. But don’t expect to hear it for more than twenty four hours, then they’ll pretend like it never happened. Faux outrage for faux principles.
Attorney General Eric Holder says the government won’t prosecute CIA officials for using waterboarding and other harsh interrogation tactics on terror suspects…
Holder said in a statement Thursday it would be unfair to prosecute CIA employees for following the legal advice given at the time. And he says the government will defend any CIA employee in any court action brought in the U.S. or overseas.
“This is a time for reflection, not retribution,” President Barack Obama said in a statement.
Maybe the ACLU should run a full page ad in the New York Times? Yeah, right.
Oooh…extra credit for folks bored enough to comb through the torture memos Obama released. You can bet Glenn Greenwald will be burning the midnight oil to put together a lengthy lecture.

You don’t need to burn any midnight oil – all 4 are pathetically thin. That anyone will claim to have relied upon the “advice” contained in these works of fiction is laughable. Each reads like a list of justifications dreamed up around a large conference table by the participants. One of the more interesting statements is the DOJ admitting that what the CIA is proposing would actually put the US on its own list (maintained by State, not Justice) of authoritarian, oppressive regimes who use torture. The out, just because the US tells others not to do it doesn’t mean it can’t.
Obviously the bama ads. like to keep mentioning what Bush did or did not do.
