Obama Calls America “Arrogant” During Speech In Strasbourg
(Apologies. I usually don’t cross-post so much this early in the day, so many other folks with posts tee’d up that need reading, but, I thought this info should get out)
If nothing else, at least Obama is consistent with the far left progressive movements blame and denigrate America first, foremost, and always, opinion
Later, President Obama told an audience in Strasbourg that the US and Europe had allowed the alliance to drift in recent years.
He said the US had been “arrogant” and “dismissive” towards its allies, while there was “insidious” anti-Americanism in Europe. He said these attitudes had to change.
The only attitude I would like to see changed is the one from the President of the USA, who doesn’t seem to like anything about the USA. Jimmy Carter is sure to be enjoying this, since he will soon, no longer be known as the most America hating president ever. And, yes, this does make me mad.
Gateway Pundit catches Obama bashing Bush and apologizing for liberating Iraq. Maybe Obama wants to join the Dixie Chicks on tour.

Actually, America HAS been arrogant throughout the Bush administration. We know now that there were no weapons of mass destruction, and therefore no reason to invade Iraq. We ignored our supposed “allies” in Europe and took a very dismissive stance indeed — “if you don’t agree with us, too bad. We’re America and we can overthrow whatever government we want, and we don’t care what you have to say about it.”
That’s not being a global player. That’s arrogant and dismissive. And Europe understandably isn’t too fond of us at the moment. I hope President Obama’s administration can help change this.
screw you obot
I love when people throw out the weapons of mass destruction argument. Even the complete morons on the left were in agreement and pushed the fact that Saddam was not only looking to arm himself with nuclear weapons, but stating he had and USED biological weapons (on his own people none the less). Our supposed allies were getting rich off of oil for food, but no matter, their corruption is probably our fault to begin with. Liberating all those muslims and giving women in their society a chance at freedom is surely such a tragedy, how the hell did we get here?
Way to give the full context – how about at least doing sufficient research and reading a little bit more of the speech in its entirety before jumping to conclusions? Case in point, here are more of the president’s words from the same speech:
“But in Europe, there is an anti-Americanism that is at once casual, but can also be insidious. Instead of recognizing the good that America so often does in the world, there have been times where Europeans choose to blame America for much of what is bad. On both sides of the Atlantic, these attitudes have become all too common. They are not wise. They do not represent the truth. They threaten to widen the divide across the Atlantic and leave us both more isolated. They fail to acknowledge the fundamental truth that America cannot confront the challenges of this century alone, but that Europe cannot confront them without America.”
Yeah, so that makes it okay for him to lambaste us for our arrogance?
For a President to continue to blame the past, and to denigrate America whenever he can, is a complete and utter disgrace. We have troops overseas being wounded and making sacrifices while this leftist do-nothing ‘president’ makes like a celebrity and dictator. He is sending more troops who again are risking their lives, while he mouthes this stuff just to “appear” popular to Europe. Who cares what Europe or any country thinks? Do they ask our permission before doing anything? Did Russia check in before murdering and bombing in Georgia? Did China check in before brutalizing people in Tibet. Do the dictators of South America ask us our opinion of how they treat their peasants? Do the Arabs check in before they behead and flog people.
Impeach this guy already, he is a disgrace.
Actually President Zero read the Teleprompter wrong: it was actually telling him that HE was “arrogant” and “dismissive.”
Stating facts is *not* American-bashing.
When Rumsfeld spoke of quaint “old” Europe in the wake of France and Germany’s objection to the invasion of Iraq (and it turned out they were right, didn’t it?) Rumsfeld dismissed them as “old Europe” who’s opinions had no value.
Speaking of which… How do you think the backrub/massage Bush gave Angela Merkel will stand up in the annals of diplomacy?
Stating Facts? How about Europe having to be bailed out of major world wars in the past hundred years by the blood of young American soldiers. How many Europeans died?
Obama is an embarrassment to the entire nation. It will be interesting though, when Obama starts to pull out troops to save money. Who will the Europeans call on when they need help? Arrogant Americans again?
It’s no secret that the President has a really long name. It’s actually Barack Neville Chamberlain Hussein Carter Obama.
Is anyone really surprised? A leftist has a certain number of stock slurs and this is one of the favorites. It had to make an appearance. And yes, from their point of view, nothing could be more arrogant than presuming to liberate 50 million people from tyranny. You can’t get more arrogant or out of line than wanting to empower people with liberty.
Um, D-Patrol, regardless of what Rummy said, he was NOT bashing America. Amazing, eh?
Where does Obama get the nerve to say that americans are arrogant, the people of the U.S. are great people they are hard workers and they give to every nation and all people who need help, they give money and food and clothes. They have shed their blood on all lands of this world, so others can have the freedom like the U.S.has. The problem with the U.S.is no its people its the people in washington they all should be tarred and feathered. and we should start with obama.
I agree with Barbara! There are no arrogant Americans!
All of us are humble, servile folks!
Obama and his liberal followers are the scum of the earth.
Aaron Dandrea is wrong.
The United States America has had a steady, uninterrupted military presence in Iraq for the last two decades. After Gulf War I, we established air superiority over 50% of Iraq under the guise of “No Fly Zones”. Thus, Gulf War II is a misnomer, as it was more a re-escalation of hostilities brought on by the fact that Hussein had been in material breach of the terms of the cease-fire brokered at the end of Gulf I. No, Aaron, before you and your myrmidon chime in with your partisan BS, be aware that the facts I mention above were precisely articulated by none other than Wm. Jefferson Clinton in 1998 when he was vigorously rattling the sabre in while trying to deflect attention away from his fellatious short-comings. Granted, the ground presence is a lot stronger a message than say, an aspirin factory…but in the end, we are perfectly within our rights in enforcing the terms of the original ceasefire in any manner we see fit. Your second bit of mendacity centers around WMD’s. When a weapon of any sort goes off, it is irrevocable and the country/date of manufacture of said weapon is of little importance to those killed/wounded. HAD Hussein been bright enough to participate in the agreed upon inspections, good ole “Hanz Brix” would have given Hussein a clean bill of health that he could have waved at the International community. However, his miscalculation in the wake of 9/11 by obfuscating the agreed upon inspections made him a “wild-card” threat that any prudent President would neutralize. We can probably agree that the PROSECUTION of the war was done wrong in certain ways, sure. In the fog of war errors are made, but your premise that we invaded Iraq for no reason and with no provocation will not stand up to competent historical review.
Now grow up little boy, shut off your laptop, leave the coffee shop and join the adult world……
Aaron: Weapons of mass destruction WERE found in Iraq – unfortunately liberal media conveniently failed to report it:
http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2006/06/22/report-hundreds-wmds-iraq/
We didn’t “ignore our allies in Europe” and we didn’t go at this war alone. As of June 13, 2006, 27 countries (including the US) maintained responsibility over the six major areas of Iraq.
Do your research.
I think Obama needs to be Impeached now! To be called arrogant by a president is just wrong! I fought two tours of nam and I resent the Hell out of being called arrogant by the president! I dont give a damn if if he is white, black, queer, gay, African, KKK, Black Panther, Democrate, Republican, Liberal, or Negro. He must go!
He is several levels below Jimmy Carter now.
” Obama is a man of many words, but NOT a man of his words”
Impeach him before it’s too late!!!!!
To all those who voted for him, congrats. You knew nothing about history but you are now making history by permanently screwing up our country. I’m not surprised by his comment. I never thought he was American to begin with so why would he side with us. I just wish he would his extend his stay in France and not come back!
Let’s start off by the knucklehead who made the comment about stating facts as it pertains to arrogance – the idea of arrogance by another is SUBJECTIVE, not factual. Let’s point out that a staunch supporter of your messiah was Colin Powell – he is the one who made the case at the U.N.
Now let’s look at the reason for the WMD rationale. The UN resolution was for Iraq to show to inspectors the dismantled WMD’s, Hussein admitted to having them, and stated he disassembled them, but kept pulling the wool over the eyes of the inspectors. There were 18 resolutions levied against Iraq for these WMD’s. And if you think they don’t exist, ever existed or were concocted as a conspiracy for President Bush, in MY OPINION you’re nuts. In years to come you will see that these WMD’s were more than likely shuttled to Syria. So now we should respect your ARROGANT president as much as you respected our PATRIOTIC president? You’re nuts! But we knew that already!
I am no longer concerned about anything that this president says. He can speak eloquently all day and not utter one meaninful phrase. He is brilliant speaker not a leader. He is going to send this nation into a tailspin of debt that will never be resolved. He may have run for president but dictator is his ultimate goal. He has got to go.
Obama is scum. His thought processes are irrevocably dangerous for the world. He is no American leader I want or would look up to. I can’t wait for someone to show him what a chump he is. Loser in shoes. Can you believe the secret service will protect this a#@hole for life after we throw him out. Sucks to no end the priviliges the taxpayer will pay for for the rest of his hopefully short life.
President Obama is doing a great job. As an American, I am proud of the stance he has taken. I am not insulted by the “arrogance” comment because I’m not one who has shown such a quality on global or domestic issues. America has shown tendencies of arrogance – like it or not! You lovely people throw insults due to differences of opinions? I can really see your level of maturity as you refer to other humans as “scum,” “loser,” and many more beautiful terms you have taught your children. We all are held accountable for what comes out of our mouths. Best to each of you as you endure life’s lessons.
Pity poor Ashlen,
Only a deluded liberal would assign responsibility for the coarsening of American culture to Conservatives! LOL…That is pretty funny. Have you ever even read the Daily Kos for example Ashlen? Do you think “Piss Christ” was done by a conservative? Do you think that the purveyors of Hollywood trash and Rap culture are conservatives? LOL! Liberals are useful though, for humor as well as compost.
Ashlen, let me guess, you’re 14?
Obama (AKS Osama) is wasting no time degrading America to his Socialist “friends” in Europe. His ambition is to make America a carbon copy of France or The United Kingdom….Socialist.
Perhaps he should have run for President of France because he certainly does not appreciate or like America. He is a total disgrace and I don’t consider him my President.
Europe has gotten a free ride from the U.S. ever since WWII and if it were not for the U.S. they would all be speaking German.
With Osama Obama in charge, his goal is to have the world speaking Muslim.
He can kiss my a**!
One day soon there will be riots and mayhem in the U.S. When Osama Obama tries to take away our 2nd Amendment rights.
He and his socialist friends are already setting the stage by claiming most of the weapons used by Mexican drug cartels were imported from America. That is a huge lie!
Liberals wanted change , well they are going to get more than they bargained for with the Osama Socialists running the show.
I feel that our USA people need to support the President we voted in. If we don’t like what we see in 4 years, vote for a Republican. From what I see, The president did NOT say “ all Americans are arrogant” He was referring to the attitude of our leaders in the last administration. The dictionary defines ARROGANT as self-important, big, or swelled.. I think some of that did go on. I do not consider myself as a “scum liberal Democrat” or a “self righteous Republican” I am a concerned American doing my best to keep informed about our nation.
Wow! This is certainly a new low for our President. If President Bush had ever said anything even remotely like this, the press would have slammed him into the ground. However, I bet we will hear little from the press on this one. President Obama is the arrogant and disgraceful one here. Let me remind you that in his first three days of office he told the world he values the lives of terrorists over that of the unborn innocent with his stance on partial birth abortion and the closing of Gitmo. Now he wants to run companies, makes fun of the mentally handicapped (on national TV) and denigrates Americans on foreign soil. What a fine upstanding individual! Gimme a break! Does his condescending attitude really surprise any of you? I agree that he and the Dixie Chicks should get together and have a wonderful life together —- somewhere else!
As Americans, we’ve allowed this type of behavior to become acceptable under the umbrella of “freedom of speech”. The more liberal we get, the worse things will be. It’s not an option…just a fact. Look at history up to this point. Perhaps Mr. Obama should worry about all the critical things he has on his presidential plate rather than bashing President Bush. So far, I haven’t been impressed, nor do I feel as safe under his leadership. Bush wasn’t perfect — no president has been or will be, but he believed in this Country, was willing to be accountable for making decisions and acting, and I remind you…had a tremendously high approval rating with US citizens for his quick action after 9/11. Bush wasn’t worried about what sounded good or looked good. He was worried about protecting this country. Years down the road, if we make it that far, I don’t think he’ll have to worry about being his track record being looked at so negatively in comparison to current to future presidents…at least not as long as liberals keep falling for everything that “sounds” good and doesn’t hold anyone accountable for anything.
That is why Obama said that American’s are arrogant because he is not one of them, he just run for president but his heart not belongs to Americans, it belongs to Saddam Hussien and Osama Bin Obama, a truly Islam Negritos…
We have not only been arrogant; we have told the world that we are above the laws of humanity. I respect your service and the service of our men and women now in action who have been faithful to their oath. Under Bush and Cheney, neither upheld their worn oaths and any honest American should be willing to admit to the fact that a fearful populous allowed them to become “War Criminals” by every standard and every world of our Constitution and every International Law to which we are signatory, and which they in their: “We are Above The Law” stance have arrogantly thumbed their noses at the world and disgraced both the flag and our service men and women. Just face the facts…please!
As a Brit who has lived in the US, and is a life long supporter of your country, I have to say that from my point of view he was not saying all Americans are arrogant. He was referring to the last administration and their “your’re either with us or with the terrorists”, we are America, we can do what ever we like attitude. Just as you seem to assume that all the French and British are socialists, we assume you are all war-mongering, arrogant a$$holes who don’t give a damn fro the rest of the world. Neither of these viewpoints is accurate. However, Obama needs to reach out to the rest of the world, as Bush lost all of America’s goodwill six months after 9/11.
I really hate yall’s president, he is not mine! I am NOT responsible for him being in charge. Look out America, we are headed towards socialism!
And Michelle…ugh!
The US gives more aid than any other POS country on earth. So if we are not good enough or smile just right or whatever is needed to satisfy your ego, F**K 0FF!!! Especially the Euro-trash
Aaron Dandrea, are you an idiot, The reason we didnt find the weapons of mass destruction is becuase they are buried in the middle of the desert, we found many traces of them such as the parts of nuclear warheads.
A European, I think the biggest point here is that we had the President of the USA denigrating his own country will speaking in Europe. Not sure what country you are from, but, would you approve of your countries leader coming here and denigrating your country?
Obama is not fit to be President of the United States of America the greatest country in the world . Obama has committed TREASON.
From all the MEN and WOMEN & their families
he needs to get on his belly and beg for foregiviness
If anybody is arrogant it is the Obama’s. Barrack Hussein Obama keeps proving he is an arrogant unqualified idiot who is only in the White House because of millions in illegal donations, the lying Liberal media, and the ignorance of the voters. It should be pretty obvious to anybody paying attention that Obama and the Democratic party are power mad Socialists who want to regulate almost every facet of our lives. Obama needs to be impeached before he does any more damage. The Obama’s have proven that they hate this country.
I grew up being told that the President of the United States should be respected because he is the leader of our country and the leader of the free world. Until now I have felt this respect (even though there were a few that were iffy at times). After the anti-Christ’s comments on Friday, I have completely lost respect for his office. I was extremely pissed off when the Dixie B!tches (Natalie in particular) bashed our President outside of this country. This was not forgivable, but people can forget some stupid broad that thinks she’s being cool. When it comes to the most highly visible, supposedly respected, man in this world disrespecting MY country, that’s when I draw the line. Something drastic needs to change with the current administration. I cannot ever remember another administration that has totally F’d up this country in less than 3 months as this current one. I doubt there is enough to impeach this SOB, but I think something has to be done about this. I can’t wait until 2012 when we can get a real man – respected man back in the office. Until then we can only pray that a miracle happens for our country and it doesn’t go bankrupt and send us back to the stone age.
Exactly how many republicans are posting comments here?? Everyone knows that republicans only read what they want to read and then sad attempts at valid arguments by distorting said speeches, or praising the very man who left the country in the pathetic state it is in. Perhaps it would do a lot of people some good to take responsibility for their actions and for whom they voted… in the case of Bush, that applies. Haven’t you noticed that anytime some Obama hater listens to Obama, or reads something he may have stated, they have a distorted view about it? They forget what the pathetic excuse for a president Bush had done. LIES… all that guy did was LIE. Obama is now left to clean up the sewage left behind by THAT disgrace of a leader called a President. HE is the reason so many hate America. Obama isn’t saying we effen suck, he is saying that YES, in fact, WE Americans can, and are, ARROGANT, in so many ways. As stated above, during the Bush years, total arrogance was sure to follow. Both times. Both Bushes. Complete hell to live in America during those times. Bush was arrogant. Perhaps Obama shouldn’t have used Americans as a whole, but quite a few are. I have a republican cousin who praises that effen a-hole Bush… that’s just complete arrogance. While those of us who struggle to maintain just mere existence in this country, there are those who were literally laughing all the way to the bank. Look where that lead us. Oh, but that wasn’t Bush’s fault… I do believe I heard something along the lines of it being Clinton’s fault. Yeah, OK… how many more people are we going to blame. I was completely against the war in Iraq and could give two s***ts about that country. We should’ve let them be. Now I wouldn’t be surprised if we were attacked… THAT’S how much we are hated. If you don’t believe that, than you not only are arrogant, but ignorant as the Bush leaders were. Completely so. Maybe a lot of you should do YOUR research and STOP BEING SO EFFEN IGNORANT and start looking at the facts. Every pres has had their share of eff ups, but the Bush family took the cake… and the icing. Now you’re all blaming Obama for bull that is completely and utterly stupid to complain about. Do you understand the mess this guy is trying to clean up? But I bet most of you thought the Crypt Keeper (McCain) would’ve done a superb job. Bet we would’ve been in a deeper hole and the rich still would’ve gotten richer while the poor and middle-class would’ve been left out in the cold, literally. Living in tents like many Americans are living in today. Effen ignorance certainly is a bliss for a lot of you. Keep it up… I’m sure you’ll go very far in this world. Better pray for another Bush.
Cool off everyone!
He said the US had been arrogant, that means everyone “in general” not anyone “in particular” and he means the government too. Don’t get all defensive about stuff – chillout.
Those who did not see this coming last year were hiding under a Rock. I Saw it plainly. Now His latest speech “America is NOT a Christian Nation is setting the stage for further destruction” Can you see this coming also???
For those in denial about the weapons of mass destruction, look up President Clintons speech the night before HE attacked Iraq. It can be found in the CNN archives. For those who forget, it was Operation Desert Fox. Then take into consideration that no president of the United States has ever stood on foreign soil and bashed the country he was sworn to protect. If not for the United States, Europe would still be under Nazi control. America spent billions liberating Europe during World War ll, billions more rebuilding it under the Marshall Plan and billions upon billions more defending Europe under NATO. And now, the United States is arrogant for trying to liberate Iraq from a dictator, who was commiting attrocities as unspeakable as those of Hitler? Perhaps the French would not be applauding so loudly if we had saved American lives and American dollars during World War ll and turned our backs on them. Where would they be now, if they had been left to fend for themselves? Instead of calling this nation arrogant, Barrack Obama should have reminded France of a similar sacrifice this country made for them and why we did the same for Iraq. And maybe, just maybe, during his visit, he should have paid homage and respect to our heroes by paying a visit the the graves of the thousands of American dead from the beaches of Normandy!
hey bush sucks…. pick up a history book or two and read up. You should know your history… real history! WWI,, WWII Korea, Vietnam before you make a judgement on something that you know nothing about.
The USA has done nothing but give, give, give to others. What have YOU done lately? Is your life on the line? How about your family? Any of them out their protecting your freedom of stupid speech?
Ok, so Obama said what he said and all you knee-jerk republicans are yelling and screaming about it.
Do any of you remember a speech that Bush made in 2000, where he said pretty much the EXACT SAME THING?!?!? He, too, was overseas. He, too, referred to the perceived arrogance of American foreign policy. Where was your outrage then?
Go look it up. I don’t have time to educate the unwashed masses of sheep out there who can’t take the truth.
The fact is, Bush said it in 2000, and Obama said it in 2009. What has Bush done to change that perception he himself noted in those nine years, and why should Obama be berated for repeating what Bush said?
You can’t have your cake and eat it too. Too many of us bury our heads in the sand in order to perpetuate a failed system of party politics and finger-pointing, and it just doesn’t solve anything. Neither does blaming Obama for repeating what Bush said.
I’ll say it again for the thinking-impaired: Bush said the same thing in 2000, and Obama is being vilified for repeating what Bush said. And then Obama took it further by making sure the rest of the world was aware of what GOOD America has done for them!
Give me a break and go educate yourselves before making yourself look like a fool. THAT would be change I can believe in.
Look here are the Facts
America was arogant SOMETIMES not all the time, Also Europe did play its own part in the Irag war good/bad. There was no real reason to go into Iraq, and this notion you have that America bailed out Europe in two world wars is not exactly true, even though you did give alot of help it was more a combination of things such as Germany being attacked on all sides by three major allies Russia, England and Yourselves. another fact that led to Hitler Disimise was his arrogance thinking he is always right which lead to his armies being spread out too thinly.
I have to say that I heard Obamma Speach and he gave out about Europe and how we use to blame America to much. I am not offened you know why because as a European I think he was right in what he said there has been to much anti-america in Europe like wise America has been arrogant and dismissive. But the difference with me is that I am beening mature about it and excepting my faults so we can get on with things and I suggest you guys who think Obamma is a bad president do the same as Obamma is your only hope of getting back on trac. Now Grow up and get on with it
You people need to grow up. How stupid is the statement that Obama has no business calling us out on our arrogance. If we cannot acknowledge our faults, there is no hope of changing. You people that choose to continue to act like America never makes mistakes and should never be disagreed with, are what is wrong with our society. Why do you thin other countries hate us so much? It is the “holier-than-thou” attitude we have to the rest of the world.
As to the wars is Iraq and Afghanistan, we have no hope of solving their civil war. These countries have been at war with themselves and each other for hundreds of years. Unless their own citizens stand up and take control, no one else can help them. Including America.
You people are sickening. Just look at the name of this website “stop the ACLU”. As if having civil liberties is a negative.
