Sept. 10 Diaries: Obama Nixes Guns For Pilots Program

Posted on March 18, 2009

‘Memba this?

I believe in the Second Amendment, and if you are a law-abiding gun owner you have nothing to fear from an Obama administration,” Obama said. “This has been peddled again and again. Here’s what I believe: The Second Amendment is an individual right. . . people have the right to bear arms. But I also believe there is nothing wrong with some common-sense gun safety measures.”

Well, not if you are a law abiding pilot intent on being armed so that the plane is not hijacked and the terrorists do whatever they want with the plane

After the September 11 attacks, commercial airline pilots were allowed to carry guns if they completed a federal-safety program. No longer would unarmed pilots be defenseless as remorseless hijackers seized control of aircraft and rammed them into buildings.

Now President Obama is quietly ending the federal firearms program, risking public safety on airlines in the name of an anti-gun ideology.

The Obama administration this past week diverted some $2 million from the pilot training program to hire more supervisory staff, who will engage in field inspections of pilots.

Not exactly shocking news, except to those who bought into hopeNchange, and believed Obama’s teleprompter regurgitated words on guns, which were pretty much completely the opposite of his non-presidential campaign sound bites, not to mention his votes.

In essence, Obama is having the pilots harassed and inspected, and any little minor thing, including those that are fabricated, can have their gun pulled. Feeling safe about flying now? Wait a few more months, and we should be back to September 10th.

Only anti-gun extremists and terrorist recruits are worried about armed pilots. So why is the Obama administration catering to this tiny lobby at the expense of public safety?

Because ideology trumps everything else in Liberal World. And don’t think Islamic terrorists aren’t watching this and itching to go.

Kim Priestap at Wizbang: Every time I turn around I read about a new, irrational, idiotic, incompetent, and harmful program that Barack Obama wants to implement.

Infidels Are Cool:  Thanks Obama.  I’m glad you’re making sure you cut back training pilots to defend themselves while beefing up your staff to keep those dangerous pilots in check.  That’s change you can believe in.

You’re presenting a Washington Times editorial as news. Please find a news story where Obama shuts down the program, not simply reallocates funds from training to supervision of the program.

Oh, OK, Joe. Meanwhile, you libs have taken what folks like Paul Krugman and Mo Dowd write on their, yes, op-eds, as the Holy Writ. You guys take every conspiracy theory, including the latest by Seymour Hersh about assassination squads, as The Truth. You were the nuts pushing the 9/11 Trutherism. OK.

The story that you reference is completely false and has been even been debunked by (believe it or not) Fox News.

Please find honest, legitimate issues to argue with the Obama administration rather than liberal boogie-man stories fabricated to excite the wing nuts. Better yet, present some meaningful, constructive suggestions and insightful commentary on what he should be doing on important issues for which you disagree with him.
