Obamabi Signals He Will Break Another Campaign Talking Point

You know things are not going well with Obama’s talking points (this wasn’t really a promise, just a complaint and position by That One) when even the New York Times is calling him on it, albeit softly: Administration Is Open to Taxing Health Benefits

The Obama administration is signaling to Congress that the president could support taxing some employee health benefits, as several influential lawmakers and many economists favor, to help pay for overhauling the health care system.

The proposal is politically problematic for President Obama, however, since it is similar to one he denounced in the presidential campaign as “the largest middle-class tax increase in history.” Most Americans with insurance get it from their employers, and taxing workers for the benefit is opposed by union leaders and some businesses.

I never particularly cared for that plan, as it was espoused by Senator McCain, since it was “tax me then give me a rebate/welfare check,” but, of course, that is not the point. I have to agree with many leading Democrats in Congress and union officials, do not start taxing my health benefits, but, that’s not the point. The point is, Obama is learning that there is a vast difference between thinking that running for president is experience to be President of the USA and actually being President of the USA. Which is why it is always Obamateur Hour!

On the bright side, Obama’s gun talking points are still working wonders, and even the British press is noticing

On the campaign trail last year Mr Obama proposed restoring a Clinton-era ban on several types of military-style semi-automatic rifles and high-capacity magazines, as well as background checks for buyers at gun shows, and other “common-sense measures”.

His pledge has proved a potent catalyst, with manufacturers recording soaring profits since his election.

Smith and Wesson last week posted third-quarter profits of $2.4 million (£1.7 million), reversing a loss of $1.8 million over the same period the previous year, as its pistol sales jumped 46 per cent and tactical rifle sales more than tripled. Another manufacturer, Sturm Ruger & Co. reported an 81 per cent increase in takings.

Demand for certain ammunition is also outstripping supply as enthusiasts build up stockpiles ahead of threatened tax increases on bullets.

Well, at least Obama has done something positive for the economy.

On the flip side, Obamabi has yet another promise that will soon be broken: President Promises to Bolster Food Safety.

Describing the government’s failure to inspect 95 percent of food processing plants as “a hazard to the public health,” President Obama promised Saturday to bolster and reorganize the nation’s fractured food-safety system.

No one else has been able to do, and there are all sorts of reasons for it. But, really, most of the time food inspection is done very well. Companies do not want their food tainted. Things like that cost them money and can put them out of business. But, O’Barry has created a new task force, the Food Safety Working Group, which will probably fail overall, but, is a great way to intrude more into the private sector and raise the cost of the food you eat. But, Obama doesn’t mind, since the tax payers are picking up the tab for $100 a pound wagyu steak parties.

Is anyone really surprised about any of this.I can understand someone under 25 falling for this guy. But everyone else should have known that you cannot promise everyone the world on a silver platter, and they will not have to pay for it.

Spend Spend Spend, Take Take Take.

Remember it is your duty to pay taxes. Don’t remember that we became a free nation because of over taxation.

TheBad doesn’t seem to realize that taxing and spending is pretty much the government’s job. That point aside, I really don’t see how this is a civil rights issue; the 2nd ammendment very clearly states its position towards “a well regulated militia.” Realistically, if you are saying citizens should have the right to these various assault weapons to defend themselves, in this day and age you might just as well say they have the right to tanks, jet fighters, and nuclear devices. You think crimes in the inner city are bad enough now, just wait until they start the drive by bombings!

So people shouldn’t have guns to defend themselves because it is just like having nuclear devices ummmmmmmmmmmm Ok

I think you are confused, Brian. The role of the US government is not to tax and spend. It is to protect our Rights, protect the land from enemies both domestic and foreign, establish laws for the common good, and provide for basic security and public order. Read that pesky Declaration of Independence.

As far as the 2nd Amendment goes, no, you do not have a Right to the things you mentioned, because they are not really “arms.” But, hey, if you in your liberalism want to give up your Rights to arm yourself, that’s your problem. Don’t interfere with the Rights of the rest of us.

Way to pick out just part of the 2nd Amendment Brian. Might try to read the rest of it.

“A well regulated militia being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the People to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed”

The key word there is “People” not “State”. Your argument might be valid if not for that pesky “People”. Since the Preamble identifies the “People” as all U.S. citizens, the use of “People” in the second amendment applies to the same. To imply otherwise is to imply that all Constitutional rights are reserved exclusively by the state. Meaning, in layman’s terms, U.S. citizens would have no legal rights under the Constitution, save those permitted by the state.

The only reason why obama won was that most people were pissed off at george bush and the republicans. never believe a politician. obama is a one term president.

There was a certain merit, fairness, to the McCain plan. Right now, employees are taxed differently from the self-employed. Employees recieve healthcare with pretar dollars. The self-employed have to purchase healthcare with after tax dollars. People who recieve heathcare as part of their employment compensation and those who buy it for themselves, should be taxed the same. They are not.
