America’s strength in the eyes of our enemies? Zer-O

AP: Cuba, Venezuela could host Russian bombers

CNN: Russian strategic bombers could use Cuba airfields

“There are four or five airfields in Cuba with 4,000-meter-long runways, which absolutely suit us,” Maj. Gen. Anatoly Zhikharev told Interfax.

Zhikharev, who is the chief of staff of the Russian Air Force’s long-range aviation, said, “If the two chiefs of state display such a political will, we are ready to fly there.”

Zhikharev also told Interfax that Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez has offered a military airfield on La Orchila island as a temporary base for Russian strategic bombers.

“If a relevant political decision is made, this is possible,” he said, according to Interfax. Zhikharev said he visited La Orchila in 2008 and can confirm that with minor reconstruction, the airfield owned by a local naval base can accept fully-loaded Russian strategic bombers.

Remember this statement by then-candidate Obama when Russia launched an unprovoked attack on Georgia?

Now is the time for Georgia and Russia to show restraint, and to avoid an escalation to full scale war.

Can we expect the same if Russia targets Atlanta, Georgia?

Now is the time for Atlanta and Russia to show restraint, and to avoid an escalation to full scale war.

Well, we do know that the president pledged to make us and our allies more vulnerable to missile attacks (and pretends that the Eastern European basing of the shield was only to thwart Iranian ambitions), so why not just let Russia station bombers a shuttle flight away? Since we had MAD during the Cold War, let’s have SAD (Singularly-Assured Destruction) in the Age of Hope!

OK, so we know that Russia, Cuba, Venzuela, Iran, North Korea are seizing this moment of our weakness, but that was to be expected. You want to know exactly how weak the US looks around the world?

Ecuador, freaking Ecuador, is flexing its, errrr, muscles against us!

Looks like Joe was right!

Hot Air: Russia takes the Biden Challenge

Can you imagine Russia trying this with George Bush? For that matter, can you imagine Bush losing Kyrgyzstan — and a vital military route — to Putin? Russia is doing this now because Putin and Medvedev understand that they can get away with it.

Threats Watch: Another Day, Another Challenge

Echoes of the Cold War and of the Cuban Missile crisis are loud and obvious.

Russki aircraft are the reason that the Patriot Missile System was invented. Bring on the Key West Patriots–this is not a soccer team.
    ***
Hugo Chavez and his commie buddie Evo Morales in Bolivia could use some Patriot help also. The ex-FARC controlled areas of Colombia would probably do.
    ***
Cuban Missile Crisis II could be coming soon. No need for real Navy, Army, and Marine military hard power any more. We will just have President O’Bummer (PBUH) and his super smart Secretary of State Hillary Clinton apply some SMART POWER DIPLOMACY there. Or maybe a few MAGIC WAND WAVES by the Messiah.

So now it’s all happening. Really, was it ever anything but ridiculously predictable?

Doesn’t look like many countries take Obama very seriously, does it?

The Russian Navy visiting Fidel was about as threatening as a barge-full of scrap metal, but Obama was already caught dozing while the Kremlin snaked the Kyrgizstani air base SO vital to any planned Afghan surge. Of course the press is not interested, they’re preoccupied with his puppy vetting process instead.

Israel not only settled accounts with Hamas before Obama was sworn-in, but now elected a far more rightist government, to be headed by the pugnacious Bibi Netanyahu… who refers to Gaza as “Hamasistan”. Does that look like they are looking to follow Obama’s lead, to not confront Tehran, and make ill-conceived deals with the Palestinians?

Israel is the target of and existential threat from Iran and her proxies Hezbollah and Hamas, plus Syria… and cannot afford a pollyanna, cafe-debate world-view like Barack thinks is so “cool” and modern.

Iran has promptly met Obama’s gestures with contempt, and not only do they have no intention of stopping their nuclear weapons program, but consider his willingness to “talk without preconditions” nothing but a sign of weakness- and in fact an indicator of the failure of the West.

Ruthless and aggressive foes have no reason to take seriously a smiley plastic mannequin like Obama… they know he’s not going to do anything.

Team Obama would be well-advised to keep an eye on the south-western horizon anytime they’re visiting their contemptuous new pals in Tehran… for a formation of Israeli F-16’s coming-in at mach 2. The IDF did us all a huge favor in 1983, taking out Saddam’s reactor in the face of world condemnation… and they’ll do it again.

Israel is used to such misguided and strategically ignorant moralizing, and they can’t afford to care what Obama thinks.

I don´t know what do you think but my view on this case is similar to North Korea in the 1990´s.
We did nothing and now they have nuclear weapons.

We already know how they’ll handle it. It will end with his mouthpiece saying that the Russian chief’s comments are “unhelpful” if they are mentioned at all. And that will be the end of it.

That is unless Secretary of State Carrot Top has any more prop comedy diplomacy she wants to deploy against the Red Threat (The Old One and not the new One in the White House).

Palin can see Russia from his house in Alaska. And almost everyone mocked or laughed at her.

    Now, I believe her.

Every POTUS must clearly see Russia from his/her White House.

I remember the Cuban Missle Crisis in the 60’s and the RED ALERT status on Long Island,New York.
I was dating an engineer who was on duty for the military and all dating was canceled. Then news pictures of JFK and RFK in a tete a tete outside the Oval Office and then the crisis passed. America won again.

This Cuban/Russian Crisis may not end.
    May God Protect Us.
