Obambi Seeks A New Assault Weapons Ban

Posted on February 26, 2009

I’ll be honest, I do not really see the point behind owning assault weapons as a private citizen, I seriously doubt there is going to be another revolution, but, see, there is that pesky 2nd Amendment thing, so, if you want one, Mr. I Was A Constitutional Professor wants to infringe on your Right

The Obama administration will seek to reinstate the assault weapons ban that expired in 2004 during the Bush administration, Attorney General Eric Holder said today.

“As President Obama indicated during the campaign, there are just a few gun-related changes that we would like to make, and among them would be to reinstitute the ban on the sale of assault weapons,” Holder told reporters.

Here’s an interesting thought, though it is not the first time I have had it: why couldn’t Obama or some other Democrat have proposed legislation since 2004? Sure, it would have probably failed when the GOP controlled Congress, and Bush would more then likely have vetoed it from during the time the Democrats controlled Congress up to Barry taking over, but, they could have at least gotten it on record, right?

Holder said that putting the ban back in place would not only be a positive move by the United States, it would help cut down on the flow of guns going across the border into Mexico, which is struggling with heavy violence among drug cartels along the border.

“I think that will have a positive impact in Mexico, at a minimum.” Holder said at a news conference on the arrest of more than 700 people in a drug enforcement crackdown on Mexican drug cartels operating in the U.S.

Oh, you mean the people that acquired the weapons illegally? How would a ban stop that, Eric? All it will do will be to stop the people who do things legally from acquiring an assault weapon. But, apparently U.S. citizens have to give up their rights (again) for Mexican nationals.

The primary issue is the definition of “assault weapon” that has been used.

So it begins……..again. I own two assault rifles. One of the, an M4, I carry on duty.

Do private citizens have the right to own assault rifles? Yes.

Assault rifles are used in less than 1% of gun crime in this nation. Banning them is nothing more than window dressing. I guarantee when Obama signs this into law, he will surround himself with police officers, sheriffs deputies, and state troopers, just like Clinton did.

Anyone remember the North Hollywood shootout?

This happened in 1997 during the assault weapons “ban”. The interestin part of the story is that police had previously confiscated their weapons, but a judge gave them back to the suspects.

Enforce existing law, don’t create more laws!!!!

Bans only affect law abiding citizens and not the criminals who by definition do not care about the law. I also cannot understand why the government would want to damage the only thriving industry in the country. You would think the number of recent purchases of these so called “assault rifles” would be a pretty good indicator as to the will of the public.

Actually Bush said he supported the AWB and also said that he would sign a new one if they brought it to his desk. The Dems didn’t try it in the last two years when they had two house control in order not to poison their chances for also gaining the Presidency in the 2008 elections, which strategy turned out to be a winner. Now they have two free years before another election in which to do as much of their agenda as they can get through… porkulus, earmarkulus, the census, healthcare, and of course, gun control. Remember what the man said… “I won. I’ll trump you on that.”

The Democrats must be big Civil War buffs…because they seem to be hell-bent on starting another one.

And, if they do, they’re going to lose.

What weapon is not used for assault ? Aren’t the drug cartels buying guns and selling drugs illegally ? Are we also going to ban prescription drugs ? Let’s be real. Bad people do illegal things and good people do not. Put a “special” tax on the sale of assault weapons, sit back and watch the money roll in.

With everything going on in the US they are worried about assault rifles? How about giving people jobs! Show me some statistics before you ban them. How many assault rifles were used in crimes?

Read the Constitution…it exists for the protection of the people against the government. If the Secret Service can have assault rifles to protect the President than citizens can have them too. If the military and police have assault weapons than citizens can have them too!

This is another assault on our privacy and rights. Some of us have had assault rifles for decades and never ever got into any trouble with it. Why don’t you pass legislation that requires fingerprinting and background checks for assault rifles and handguns on a federal level. That way you can easily track when they end up across the border. If every state had strict enforcement it would not be a problem!

Gosh people in Washington are so stupid! This country is going down hill fast and you want to take away the right for Americans to protect themselves? Don’t you guys have something better to do like fight mortgage fraud, bank fraud and securities fraud?

Oh, and to all those people who think it cant happen…..didnt our financial system almost melt down at the end of last year?
2012 here we come. Time to stock up.

that being said, I agree with RLBJ

What they want to ban are NOT “Assault Weapons”, let’s get this right here and now. Assault Weapons are capabable of multiple modes of fire or full auto without further modification, this is THE definition of Assault Weapon.

Next, Assault Weapons would NOT be banned under any further gun control laws since they already ARE regulated (heavily) under the 1934 NFA (National Firearms Act) which regulates, keeps serial numbers, and taxes these weapons. And since I am tired of it, not ONE SINGLE legally purchased fully automatice firearm has been used in a crime since 1934. So stick that in your pipe and smoke it.

Next, having serverd in the US military and having much more experience and expertise than most law enforcement, why would I not be able to own a semi-automatic (one round discharges with EACH pull of the trigger) version of the very weapons I was trained by the US military to protect and defend this country?

The intent of the second amendmant is NOT to ensure I can hunt. It is there to protect me, my family, my property, and if necessary YOU from criminals at the minimum and a corrupt government at the worst. Why should I not be able to own the very same weapons that the government agents use on a daily basis?

Most importantly, what part of “shall not be infringed” do we not understand? This amendmant is the ONLY one written so clearly that it blows the mind that people cannot understand that it is to ensure that EVERY person that wants to defend themselves is able to do so at anytime without government approval.

I don’t care if you agree or believe that I should be able to own one of these firearms. It’s not up to you or anyone else to say what I can or cannot own. I feel it is the same as me telling you what religion to believe in, what car to drive, and where you have to live. Nobodoy has the right to govern your life as such.

Lay off the laws, strike ALL (close to) 21,000 gun control laws that are NOT enforced. Come down on the criminal, or let the law abiding citizen defend themselves when needed and call 911 to pick up the body when their done.

O.K. this only took one month or so, and it won’t stop with banning assault weapons. Every inch we give, they will take it a mile and they won’t stop until they have all guns banned. Any excuse will do in order to strip us of our freedom, our liberty and the right to defend ourselves- The Constitution doesnt mean a damn thing to this administration. They even want control of the 2010 census, 40% of your paycheck, and a tax payer funded spending spree worth more than the cost of all wars put together. And they are not through yet. Heres a new Dem slogan for 2009; Thank You the American tax payer, your hard work is appreciated. Now give me- Everything. Even your guns. NOW!

Mr.Obama how many assult weapon are already in the hands of law abiding citizens that use them for hunting and home protection. Shutting down the sales and production of one of the most economic boosting businesses is not a smart move. The laws are already in place -just like your little speech comparing free speach does not mean you can yell “fire” or bomb in a room full of people because you will get thrown in jail. It is no different -american civilians know that we can’t go take our assult weapons and commit a crime with it without getting thrown in jail. Assult weapon account for only 1-2 percent of gun crimes. Let me guess if there where 20 attacks in one day with a baseball bat -you would ban all sales of baseball bats the next day – pull the head out people. I have yet to see or hear of a gun by itself killing people – no it is the stupid people behind the gun that have no right to owning them. If you don’t want the assult weapons getting in the hands of drug cartel -fine ban them -they will find away to do more harm with a hunting rifle -then are you going to ban them aswell. That would take away our constitutional right -2nd ammend. and start a civil war. Just focus on the budget and the Borders and the american citizens with guns will help protect our families and this country -don’t take them out of our hands-you may need us and our assult weapons someday. This is just common sence I thought. You should take a look at how much ammo and assult rifles went up and support it – the funny thing is that people that have no job -no money are going out and stocking up on assult guns and ammo. That should be a good indicator to shut up and leave the guns and second ammendment alone it will take care of itself just like free speech. Thanks for reading concerned arms holder.
