Because they wouldn’t want it to be on a shelf that people could reach. That would be dumb.
Muslims have complained (WT: Shocker!) that the Koran is often displayed on the lower shelves, which is deemed offensive as many believe the holy book should be placed above “commonplace things”.
Now library officials in one city have been told to keep all holy books, including the Bible, on the top shelves in the interests of equality.
It has caused concern from Christian charities that this will put the Bible out of the reach and sight of many people.
The situation was brought to light in guidance published by the Museums, Libraries and Archives Council, a quango answering to Culture Secretary Andy Burnham, on how to handle controversial materials.
It said some Muslims in Leicester had moved copies of the Koran to the top shelves of libraries, because they believe it is an insult to display it in a low position.
So, now all the religious books will be on the top shelf, where many won’t be able to reach them. Good move.
Of course, this will probably make some of the typical Christian religion haters say “wait. Do we have Bibles in libraries in America? We must get them removed. The Koran is OK, though.”

Islamists must be the most easily-offended people in the world.
The last paragraph is written very vaguely: Are you saying that “Christian religion haters” want to ban all religions… or are you accusing them of conspiring with the Islamists? And if so, for what purpose? What would secularists have in common with Islamists?
That’s a pretty vast conspiracy theory you’re inventing there. Ultimately, it’s ridiculous, and it is easily undone by the same problem that undoes all other wacko conspiracy theories: It’s impossible to get that many people into the conspiracy without someone talking.
In the spirit of this story, I have moved my copy of the Qur’an to the “top shelf”…right above my toilet tank.
