ACLU Hero Obama Hits Civil Liberties Trifecta; America Can Be Proud Again!

Not that this inevitable conclusion will surprise anyone, but the ACLU are gushing over with joy since Obama has initiated kid glove treatment for our captured enemies, and the closure of Gitmo!

“These executive orders represent a giant step forward. Putting an end to Guantanamo, torture and secret prisons is a civil liberties trifecta, and President Obama should be highly commended for this bold and decisive action so early in his administration on an issue so critical to restoring an America we can be proud of again.

Needless to say I feel the exact opposite about this decision. I think it is a giant step backwards and a dangerously stupid move. I think Obama should be highly criticized for this action, and will make sure I do so. I think more criticism will rightly come when the complexities and consequences of this action begin to appear.

Anthony Romero goes on gushing about some of the details and complications, but it’s evident he has found a hero in our new president. The praise continues from Caroline Frederickson:

“By shutting Guantanamo, ending torture, and closing the CIA secret prisons abroad, President Obama has given America a much-needed and significant break from the Bush administration policies that, with utter disregard for our Constitution, trampled our nation’s values and ideals. Today’s executive orders are significant steps towards restoring the rule of law in America, but we need to continue to take the necessary action to accomplish the goals set out in today’s executive orders. We hope to see Congress follow President Obama’s lead in renewing America’s moral leadership in the world. The ACLU will continue to work tirelessly in the name of freedom and justice for all.”

The nauseating worship goes on and on about how his grand slam move on day one contains many of the ACLU’s recommendations. The bottom line is the move weakens America in the eyes of our merciless enemies. When the CIA can’t use enhanced interrogation methods to get life saving information from terrorist scum, Obama should be held to account. It will be interesting to see how many captured terrorist get released back to the wild, only to blow up more innocents or get captured again. It will be interesting to see where we keep the ones we decide to keep locked up, and the circus ACLU defense lawyers will make for each trial in the American court systems! It will also be interesting to see how Americans react when the mess Obama makes becomes too much to ignore. It’s plain insane we are giving foreign enemy combatants Constitutional rights.

Just to make everyone feel a little better about all of this, *McCain supports it all too! If we had elected him, he would probably have proposed the same thing.

*and Lindsey Graham

Eric Cantor sums it up better than I can:

The single most important role of government is to defend our nation and protect innocent Americans from those who seek to destroy our way of life. We all want to protect our troops in combat and our citizens at home, but there are serious questions that must be answered before Guantanamo Bay is closed. For example, how does it make sense to close down the Guantanamo facility before there is a clear plan to deal with the terrorists inside its walls? And what will American soldiers do with the terrorists they capture in the field before a Presidential Commission offers them a clear position?

“Actively moving terrorists inside our borders weakens our security, raises far more questions than it answers and is the wrong track for our nation. Most families neither want nor need hundreds of terrorists seeking to kill Americans in their communities. We need to have a serious, careful, and realistic national discussion about the ramifications of closing Guantanamo Bay.”

I think the released prisoners from Gitomo should move into the White House with Obama. Some of them can move in with Murtha, too.

I think most of the released prisoners would spent lots of time AT THIS WEBSITE because they know you are scared and worthless supporters of Bush the war criminal. They know you are so beaten down by your idiot boy king that you simply cannot think for yourselves. My problem is how your own children will look at your behavior. Once they begin to learn of your reverence for all things bush, they will certainly want to know where your backbone and loyalty to the Constitution went. Your own children are watching you wet your pants – for no other reason except Bush said boo! Please find your spine. The era of being scared is passed. Please regain your loyalty to the country – and not the republican party.

The era of being scared is passed just beginning. Please regain your loyalty to the country – and not the republican party.

My loyalty to the GOP ended long ago. I tend to take the people who want to destroy our country serious.

Our wimp in chief needs to go…….

He’s anti-American to his core. Give him the finger.

    Start an impeachment movement ASAP.

I for one have nothing to fear but fear itself.

    You?

You guys must be so outraged that over 500 Gitmo prisoners have been released already by the Bushies! How could they?!? We can all tell from the breathless stupidity of this post that all Gitmo defendants, untried as they are, are guilty (except those Uigher guys and all the others we wanted to release but no other country will take). Strange, how the US military still holds people they know are innocent, but you know are guilty.

Begs the question is you guys actually KNOW anything about what goes on in Gitmo, rather the 24-esque fantasy you THINK goes on there.

Who will get whomped by reality first, America or Obama?
This is truly a sad day for America as only the enemies of this country will be celebrating these horrendous decisions.

  8. Pipard on January 22nd, 2009 8:27 pm

You guys are right-wing wackos. Bush and company defecated on our Constitution and Bill of Rights for the past 8 years and now Obama is trying to restore respect for the rule of law. Stopping torture and secret prisons and giving trials for prisoners are the first step to reclaiming our nation’s heritage, given to us by the founding father.
Not torturing people and giving them due process, with lawyers and trials are the sort of thing that is supposed to make America different, and better, than many other countries. The good will created by Obama’s “trifecta” will go a lot further in creating a more peaceful and stable world than the waterboarding and Abu Ghraib type spectacles that you un-American fascists are advocating for.
God Bless the ACLU and God Bless the US Constitution and Bill of Rights! If you Right-wingers don’t like it, maybe move to Israel, where they routinely murder and torture Arabs and still get away with it.

Simple answer for soldiers, sailors, airmen, Marines, and other government personnel in defense of United States policies and objectives: TAKE NO PRISONERS.

    ITS. THAT. SIMPLE.

That is the message I take from this ruling, and it is the message I will provide to those subordinate to me.

When asked why, the answer is that we are paid to protect and defend the US, not simply defer to legal chicanery.

Wonder if the ACLU is OK with Obama crossing his fingers and retaining the right to ignore his own Executive Order when it is really, really necessary. Or didn’t they bother reading it and just took the One at his word?

  11. winston on January 22nd, 2009 8:31 pm

PS – pippy, you are still alive because someone smarter than you sees the danger and still others die and sacrifice for you. Perhaps it is you who should relocate to some paradise like Venezuela or Iran, eh, mon frere?

Take a hike and stuff something tasty into your piehole.

  12. winston on January 22nd, 2009 8:38 pm

And enough with the “boy king” and idiot remarks. Your boy has the wheel now, so lets see him do better. So far, he has only made life better for terrorists.

As for “idiot”, do you think we will ever see his academic transcripts? He could have been in Special Education classes and taken hemp basket weaving in college – we will never know because citizen Obama refused to release his records.

President Obama though, may not have that option – unless he signs an executive order locking and protecting his records. We don’t even know if he has a criminal past, do we? No one could get his records…..

So much for openness and transparency.

    I’m sorry–but I’
m REALLY trying to figure out HOW all this hate, voiced towards our own President and the people who elected him–and even other members of your same party, helps ANYONE??!! The Bush administration agreed they waterboarded prisoners, yet our own government prosecuted people during the Vietnam war as war criminals as a violation of the Geneva Convention.
All Obama wants-and apparently the majority of Americans-is to abide by the rules and laws are forefathers set before us. He wants torture and inhumane treatment of prisoners to stop. Do you folks realize that people in Iraq and Afghanistan were offered $25,000 a head to turn in members of Al Quieda, and that is where the majority of Gitmo prisoners came from? If you were desperate for food, money, etc., living in a poor country–that money is MUCH too much of a temptation to just turn in someone-no questions asked. (And NO, there were NO questions asked–my brother WAS one of the ones who “interrogated”–he’s now left the service because he felt he was violating the very same laws he joined the service to protect.). It is estimated that over 245 of Gitmo’s prisoners were put there because of this arcane “justice”.
WHY has the party to which I joined many years ago, sunk SO low?? WHY are they all seemingly *against” caring for each other, supporting our President and country, thinking that, somehow, wanting Peace and compassion, is “EVIL”??!!
I’ve read the arguments, I’ve read the blogs, I’ve read the actual voting records of members of our legislature. It seems like the main goal of Republicans now-a-days is no longer “Pro-Country”, but instead “HATE everyone who doesn’t believe exactly how WE believe, and spread this hate and these misconstrued non-facts to ANY and EVERYONE who will listen?
Shouldn’t we all be pulling TOGETHER in a time of crisis rather than dividing everyone?? I’m sorry, it really upsets me to continue seeing this–I REALLY believed that after the election, our country would unite. I honestly believe that’s what most people want…….

    laine, et al,

I will advise my people that if they do capture anyone who may have information that could save an American/coalition forces life, or prevent the needless death of many innocents that they should offer them a cup of chai tea, some pleasant conversation and time to meditate. We can clean up the blood and refuse after the fact, but we will not have “tortured” anyone.

Get this straight. If someone presents a threat in my area, and my people make the mistake of capturing that someone, I would be negligent to offer him/her cookies, milk and kindness while people die. But for you and your ilk, protecting the rights of a terrorist is paramount to protecting lives.

Step into the real world and pick up the remains of a child or your friend who just was killed by someone who would not tell you about the bomb they planted or ambush they know about. Feel the love.

Bleeding hearts make me ill, but still there is work to be done to protect your silly [edited] from things you would not imagine. Wait till the jihad comes to your town. Imagine NYC, Boston, Philly, Charleston, Miami, New Orleans, Memphis, Chicago, Detroit, Minneapolis, St. Louis, Kansas City, Dallas-Fort Worth, Houston, Denver, Las Vegas, Seattle, San Francisco, Los Angeles….all looking like downtown Baghdad. Pretty thought, isn’t it? That’s what the new Pee-resident has set into motion.

As for “uniting” – talk to Nancy Pelosi. “You lost. We Won. Get Over It.” Pretty much sums it all up.

    Dear Trolls,

    Class assignment:

Pretend you’re someone else. Go back and read what you posted. Analyze it objectively and parse the wording.

If you do all the above, I’ve got a sawbuck that says you’ll think whoever wrote what you read was a frothy mouthed, moon barking, helicopter spotting, officially certifiable candidate for the Happy Home.

My, my. All the weidos DO come out at night! lol. No one is scared. We are not the supporters of gun control (which, btw, only puts guns into the hands of the criminals), nor are we the ones who depend upon the gov’t for the answers to solve our own problems. That, my dear friends, is the demoncrat party.

Great post, John. Don’t let these small-minded people bug ya too much (if at all). They’ll be the first ones crying when this next attack comes – AND IT WILL COME – because they did not listen and prepare. Too bad. They’re not getting any of my supplies!
