ACLU Defend Westboro Baptist Cult Again
Once again, the ACLU is defending those wacked out anti-military, homophobic cultists to picket military funerals.
The daughter of Westboro Baptist Church founder Fred Phelps has sued the city of St. Joseph over its ordinance banning protests at soldiers’ funerals.
The lawsuit, filed in U.S. District Court in Kansas City, asks a judge to declare the ordinance and its enforcement unconstitutional.
The American Civil Liberties Union of Eastern Missouri filed the suit on behalf of Shirley Phelps-Roper. She said the suit is the only such action pending against a municipality in the country, although many others have passed similar laws.
I’ve stated my opinion of these scumbuckets a million times, and it hasn’t changed. Their rights end where other people’s begin. They have the right to spew hate, but people have a right to reasonable privacy when mourning their dead. Sure, these funerals are in public cemetaries in most cases, but an assumed privacy right protection should extend to the mourners assembly and freedoms of expression. If communities can pass laws placing limits on the Westboro Hate Cult’s hate speech, this does not violate anything in the Constitution. Reasonable restrictions in order to maintain the peace such as barriers between the mourners and the haters should pass legal muster. I hope the ACLU and Westboro lose this one.

In my minds eye, I keep seeing that old mideval painting where satan is consuming people whole and is excreting them again
in a continuous loop, and I think this is where the Westboro loons are headed. Well at least if my prayers are answered.
I’ve linked to your post from BlogWatch Culture Wars
At least they aren’t calling these kooks Christians. There is nothing Christian about these people.
Funny how they seem to pop up like cockroaches whenever they feel the public isn’t looking.
These people are only doing what the Bible implores them to do. And anyone who claims to be a follower of Christ is a Christian–sorry Katie, but you don’t get to decide. So many different sects of Christianity claim to know “The Word” that it’s a sick joke, as well as further evidence that man invented God and not the other way around
“Their rights end where other people’s begin”
Sorry, but as classless as what the Phelpses do indeed is, other people don’t have the right not to be offended by what they say, including the funeral-goers–and the Muslims you rant about nonstop and celebrate the bombing of.
What would you do if CAIR were to bring a suit against you for some stupid crap you let fly about Muslims, and the ACLU stepped in to help (which it would)? You’d accept the support, is what.
You are a hypocritical windbag.
I’m sorry, but I really hate you guys. I just can’t imagine why there’d even be a group dedictaed to stopping an institution that acts as a watchdog to protect our civil rights. Are you guys Nazis? Do you love Hitler? Is that what this site really is, a Nazi loving Hitler cult? I really do hate you guys. You are the most anti-American, anti-republican, anti-remocratic, anti-constitution, anti-human clumps of human feces on the web.

A good letter from on the web…..
“I calculate that there are about 26 million living veterans in our Country. I speculate there is not one of them who fought for our freedom-based Country that would not like the opportunity to spit in the eye of these obscure and insignificant radicals.
“Furthermore, I can’t imagine a court system that allows such an insulting challenge to our laws and way of life to proceed, or a lawyer who would stoop low enough to represent them.
“I also can’t imagine any one of these veterans or individuals who believe in the American way of life that would not stand up to these (you fill in the adjective you feel best fits these weirdoes) desecrations of our symbol of a freedom they are taking advantage of.
“The Westboro group should crawl back under the rock they came from. They are an embarrassment to our Country and any aspect of religious belief.”
Good post! A lot of people I’ve spoken with have still never heard of this church and it’s activities.
Besides the obvious negativity that this group spreads, the saddest thing is the kids that are involved in this church. They may never get to actually choose their own spiritual path. They’ve been totally brainwashed by this twisted 2 dimensional version of Christianity.
I wrote something up about the church as well and threw up a couple videos of them and a picture of a toddler holding a sign that says “you will eat you babies”
Ridiculous…….

I find it fascinating that a Web site whose political leanings are diametrically opposite my own is in agreement with me on the surrilousness of the Westboro Cult.
And yes, Westboro is a CULT, not a Baptist Church as it claims to be. ALL of its members are relatives and in-laws of its ultra-paranoid leader, Fred Phelps.
Did you know that Westboro was EXPELLED from the Southern Baptist Convention in 1991 on the grounds that:
1) its interpretations of the Bible are too extreme even for the fundamentalists who have controlled the SBC for the past 30 years — and are certainly no great fans of gay people themselves,
2) its all-Phelps family membership is too exclusive to conform to the SBC’s standards for a Baptist congregation.
But that’s not all: Fred Phelps has a history of alcohol and drug abuse, as well as physical abuse of his wife and children.
You can read the full, lurid story of the Phelpses by clicking onto the link below:
