Just when you thought the bailout insanity couldn’t get more insane…..Porn industry seeks federal bailout
Another major American industry is asking for assistance as the global financial crisis continues: Hustler publisher Larry Flynt and Girls Gone Wild CEO Joe Francis said Wednesday they will request that Congress allocate $5 billion for a bailout of the adult entertainment industry.
“The take here is that everyone and their mother want to be bailed out from the banks to the big three,” said Owen Moogan, spokesman for Larry Flynt. “The porn industry has been hurt by the downturn like everyone else and they are going to ask for the $5 billion. Is it the most serious thing in the world? Is it going to make the lives of Americans better if it happens? It is not for them to determine.”
Francis said in a statement that “the US government should actively support the adult industry’s survival and growth, just as it feels the need to support any other industry cherished by the American people.”
On the surface, this seems just absurd. Well, below the waves and down below the thermocline it seems silly, too. Did you know that porn is one of the biggest industries in the country? Their revenues are typically more then is made by ABC, NBC, and cBS combined, but, no one really knows the true figures because most of the companies are privately held and only release the data they want to release. As far back as 2001, there was an estimate that the industry generated over $10 billion a year, but that figure was thought to be inflated. The industry estimated they would make almost $13 billion in 2005. And the industry just keeps growing with all the new outlets, such as mobile phones, and as more and more people get broadband Internet.
Anyhow, we went from “we must pass this bailout package immediately to save the nation” to “the porn industry wants in on the government corporate welfare.”

We ought to be bailing out thriving industries rather than those in decline.

This topic is proof that our country is sinking into a new low. If this request is made, and then granted by the new Socialist party that will be in power in a few weeks, then I demand a condition be met. In the spirit of the Fairness Doctrine and in response to “Who’s Nailin’ Paylin’, I demand they make a flick starring a likeness of Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi. (they are always together-somethings goin’ on) They could call it “Behind the Senate Door’….or “Fun times at the Sunshine Home’…..How bout “who’s your Grandpa?
Our country is in crisis….If the porn industry isn’t bailed out, we’ll have an increase in ED and Super Bowl Sunday will be flooded with Cialis and Viva Viagra commericals! Stop the insanity!
And unlike Detroit, the porn industry can and will have a definite “upward arc.”
I guess next up to ask for a bailout will be the mafia.
