Muslim Gets $240K For Airplane Booting

Posted on January 6, 2009

Update by Jay: This scumbag purposely provoked this lawsuit, and is now giving the money he won to Gaza!

What does this prove? That the TSA and JetBlue are nefarious? No. This man deliberately scared passengers knowing that even a reasonable response from the TSA and JetBlue would trigger a case for damages. Yet he and the ACLU have also, though the good offices of the gullible press, achieved their objective, which was to “prove” that we use “profiling” in airport security. This was particularly ironic, because the ACLU argued in the case that the TSA should have known that Jarrar was not a threat because he has lived in the United States since 2005 and is married to an American. What is that, if not “profiling”? As I wrote at the time, the ACLU essentially conceded by this arguement that profiling works, and yet still it sought damages.

It fascinates me that the left is against fighting jihadis abroad with military force because it says we can protect ourselves with better security at home, and then it turns around and opposes any domestic security measure that might, even in the most theoretical sense, infringe on the most expansive possible reading of our constitutional rights. It is almost as if the left wants us to lose.

Wonderful. PC sensitivity towards Muslims made legal

An airline passenger forced to cover his T-shirt because it displayed Arabic script has been awarded US$240,000 (A$337,000) in compensation, campaigners said Monday.

Raed Jarrar received the pay out on Friday from two US Transportation Security Authority officials and from JetBlue Airways following the August 2006 incident at New York’s JFK Airport, the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) announced.

“The outcome of this case is a victory for free speech and a blow to the discriminatory practice of racial profiling,” said Aden Fine, a lawyer with ACLU.

Hey, our buddies the ACLU! I’m just shocked that they were involved. See, he was stopped from going on the plane because many other passengers were a wee bit scared shatless about flying with a guy wearing a t-shirt with Arabic script on it. I can’t for the life of me figure out why, because there is no evidence that Muslims hijack airplanes, is there? And certainly no evidence that virtually every hijacking has been done by Muslims.

However, rights groups and representatives of the Muslim community say the security measures have led to frequent discrimination and harassment.

Gee, what about our right not to have the plane hijacked and flown into a building?

PS: changed headline to $240k, rather then $330K. That’s what I get for reading Aussie papers.

What is the scary part about Arabic writing? That you don’t know what it means?

  2. Reasic on January 6th, 2009 5:58 pm

Spelling? Grammar? I thought this was a more mainstream site, which would necessitate a spell-checker of some kind.

What does wearing a T-shirt with Arabic writing have to do with hijacking airplanes?

  4. Louis Morrone on January 6th, 2009 11:02 pm

So basically what you’re saying is Muslims should be singled-out because some idiot passengers don’t like the shirt they’re wearing, and because a small minority group of their religion endorses and preforms terrible acts of violence? So then, if a muslim see’s a white Christian man wearing a shirt with English writing and becomes “afraid”, will the airplane kick HIM off? No.

What you are saying is that in these great United States, this person should be suppressed because you don’t agree with his opinions, however illogical or extreme or terrible or W/E, that they might be. Well that’s not how things work here, folks, and the ACLU, the American CIVIL LIBERTIES Union jumped in to defend this guy. It doesn’t matter what he thinks; he is entitled to the same exact freedoms as you and I. Don’t be such hypocrites.

And seriously, over a shirt? Idiots, the lot of them.

You know, you folks on the left who love to drop that quote around (and it doesn’t mean what you think it does, could AT LEAST quote it correctly

Those who would give up Essential Liberty
to purchase a little Temporary Safety,
    deserve neither Liberty nor Safety.

    or

The man who trades freedom for security does not deserve nor will he ever receive either

As far as the t-shirt goes, perhaps if Muslims didn’t give people a reason to be suspicious of them by doing things like, oh, say, hijacking airplanes, blowing up airplanes, trying to blow up airplanes, being suicide bombers against civilians, hijacking boats, sawing peoples heads off, and so on, things like this wouldn’t happen. You lefties are always so wanting to blame Americans, but, forget that there is a cause and effect. Muslims do things to make people be concerned around them, people get concerned when a Muslim wearing a tshirt with Arabic type writing on it is present.

As we enter 2009 and the Obama years ahead, we will be trading our freedom for socialism in disguise of Government security and big bailouts- as the left will start to control us and take our freedom. So, if you agree with the left, then you don’t deserve your freedom or your security. Stupid Libs-

people get concerned when a Muslim wearing a tshirt with Arabic type writing on it is present.

That’s fine, but take a second to think about how ridiculously easy it would have been to allay those concerns without abridging anyone’s speech.

    - TSA staffer snaps picture with a cellphone
    - TSA staffer sends picture to an on-call translator
    - Translator confirms that the Arabic message matches the English message
    - TSA staffer realizes that the not threatening
    - TSA staffer conveys that to the flight crew and allows the passenger through
    - Flight crew informs any concerned passengers that everything has double-checked.

That’s a very, very small price to pay to avoid jeopardizing one of the most important constitutional clauses.

Hey Louis Moron, you are a very ignorant person. I bet Jet Blue will fly you free of charge over to Gaza to be with your friends, and leave you there. You can even wear any shirt you want on the flight!

I saw a guy wearing a T-shirt with Japanese script. He was probably a Kamikaze pilot, planning to crash a plane on a battleship.

We’re not at war with the Arabic language, people. Just because you don’t understand something doesn’t necessarily mean it’s scary and evil, OK?

I know, I know, everybody should just be white and speak English. If the English language was good enough for Jesus Christ, it’s good enough for me, right?

Some people should get out more, and learn something about the world.

  11. Eric on January 7th, 2009 9:03 am

Man I just love these people who compare a arab to a Christian, or even a Japanese person. Hey you idiots, no Christians or Japanense have flown Airliners into tall buidlings on our soil lately! Wake the freak up you ignorant fools.
Arabs are the ones carrying out terrorist acts all over the world, people who read, and speak, and wear Arabic. Let’s look for terrorists, and those who show signs of being terrorists. Those would be people who are Arabs, and are on planes promoting that they are Arabs. The TSA did not create these terrorists. Jet Blue did not make the facts what they are. It is because of people like you, like Bill Clinton, like the communist ACLU like so many others that did nothing, that do nothing for our security that got us 9-11 in the first place. You all have great suggestions AFTER the disasters. Time to let the adults run things for a while. Oh wait! You just elected a terrorist sympathizer and supporter as president. This ought to be fun!

Hey, you’re kind of dumb man.

  13. LEB on January 7th, 2009 3:20 pm

Hey if an airline can refuse entry to a woman wearing clothing deemed “too revealing” and “offensive to other passengers”, then why not a shirt with the language that most triggers fear in airline passengers?

Last I looked the airlines are allowed to control their passenger’s dress code as well as their behavior.

  14. John Simms on January 7th, 2009 3:22 pm

    Hey Mr. Teach,

Thanks for correcting us “folks on the left.” I find it fascinating that your “corrected” quotes aren’t sourced. You might be interested in knowing that your second Franklin quote is fake. The complete repository of attributed Franklin quotes is on the web at http://www.franklinpapers.org and it is text-searchable. You will search in vain for

“The man who trades freedom for security does not deserve nor will he ever receive either.”

Hey, it would be funny if the Arabic T-shirt translated to “Iraqis for Bush” or “Arabs Against al-Qaeda.”

  15. Louis Morrone on January 7th, 2009 10:22 pm

@William Teach: What does it matter? You just gave me two different versions, so whose to say that what I said is actually what Franklin said? And obviously you missed the point. It doesn’t matter how you THINK other people should feel around Muslims wishing to express themselves (and if you become afraid around Muslims, I seriously feel sorry for you), this is the United States, and what that airline did was wrong.

@Libs Suck: I’m surprised the people who run this place haven’t deleted your comments, you clever troll.
