Harry Reid Told Blagojevich Not to Appoint Jesse Jackson Jr., and Other Blacks

Posted on January 3, 2009

Not just Jackson though…he also urged against Rep. Danny Davis and State Sen. Emil Jones. All of these individuals just so happen to be black. However, Dingy Harry put his stamp of approval on Tammy Duckworth or Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan. These two individuals just so happen to not be black. If this would have been a Republican there would be scandal, but of course we know its only coincidence since its a leading Democrat.

Days before Gov. Blagojevich was charged with trying to sell President-elect Barack Obama’s U.S. Senate seat to the highest bidder, top Senate Democrat Harry Reid made it clear who he didn’t want in the post: Jesse Jackson, Jr., Danny Davis or Emil Jones.

Rather, Reid called Blagojevich to argue he appoint either state Veterans Affairs chief Tammy Duckworth or Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan, sources told the Chicago Sun-Times.

Sources say the Senate majority leader pushed against Jackson and Davis — both democratic congressmen from Illinois — and against Jones — the Illinois Senate president who is the political godfather of President-elect Barack Obama — because he did not believe the three men were electable. He feared losing the seat to a Republican in a future election.

Blagojevich spokesman Lucio Guerrero confirmed that Reid (D-Nev.) and U.S. Sen. Robert Menendez (D-N.J.) — the new chief of the Senate Democratic political operation — each called Blagojevich’s campaign office separately Dec. 3. Sources believe that at least portions of the phone conversations are on tape.

Before their contacts, Obama’s chief of staff Rahm Emanuel called Blagojevich to tell him to expect to hear from Senate leadership because they were pushing against Jackson and others, according to statements the governor made to others.

Hey wait! I thought Rahm Emanuel didn’t have any contact or connection with the criminal Blagojevich over this Senate seat! Hmmmm….pass the popcorn please.

Sister Toldjah wonders where is the outrage?

Update for all the idiots dumping on my fun…a real response by John Cornyn:

“For the last several weeks, Senator Reid has led the charge to deny the people of Illinois a voice in choosing their next U.S. senator in a special election,” Cornyn said in a Saturday afternoon statement. “Now we learn that Senator Reid also took the extraordinary step to lobby against two sitting U.S. congressmen and the state senate Majority Leader in Illinois, and instead told Governor Blagojevich that he supported an appointment for an individual [Duckworth] who recently lost a U.S. House election.”

“The people of Illinois deserve a simple explanation from Senator Reid – why does he believe these three Illinois officeholders are ‘unelectable’ to the U.S. Senate?” Cornyn added.

To all those that think my accusations of racism are ridiculous, I think Hugh at Wizbang explains it well:

Is Harry Reid a racist? According to the standards of his liberal brethren in academia, he must prove he isn’t. Until so, we should assume he is. Or maybe he should resign his leadership position until he is proven innocent or after he has shown evidence of sensitivity training.

What a shock, a racist Democrat.
Maybe Robert Byrd could comment on this.

That yawn you heard was the media when they heard about the story. “Nothing to see here, however we ARE working on another Palin story given to us by an unimpreachable Soros source.”

stop wasting our time with your bad articles.

Correlation does not equal causation. Jesus. You know why the media doesn’t give rat’s ass about it? Because we’ve moved on from racism. Maybe, JSUT maybe, these people were judged on their merits, and not on their skin color. But I wouldn’t expect you to understand that. And by the way, Rahm admitted to contact with Blago – GASP – the president-elest’s chief of staff contacting the governor about his Senate seat? UNHEARD OF! / sarcasm. If you paid attention you’d know that Rahm was cleared of any accusations of innappropriate discussion. Good day.

Ridiculous article. Of course the issue is individual “electability.” Trying to make a scandal of Reid not approving someone who’s black – - oh, forgot, a great black man is President… Your credibility is gone.

    Dear Sen Reid,
Please Do Not Throw the BABY out Wth the dirty bathtub, Ibeg you,Sir.
Let the gvernor’s impeachment go on, let the prosecution go on and let the senate nomnee go on too.
I believe we are in the last lap of racial mix ups and awkward preferences, because if the current attorney general is good for the job, why not the former?

  7. L.D. on January 3rd, 2009 11:06 pm

Throw them all out and start over again WITH THE CONSTITUTION LEADING THE WAY.
Blago may be a crook, but, Hey!, that’s Chicago Politics – Obama included.
Reid and Pelosi are two of the worst on The Hill.

If our Founding Fathers were alive today – They would be leading the fight to restore the Constitution.

A Black is finally able to gain a presence in the White House as Commander-in-Chief, concomitantly, all Black presence is being clandestinely wrestled away in the Senate; typical American and Washington political crap, and a return to non-representation of Blacks in the Senate.

Congressman Jesse Jackson Jr. would be a great choice; ostensibly, before making history, nobody much thought that Barack Obama was electable as the Democratic nominee and our current president-elect!

  12. Ken on January 4th, 2009 1:05 am

Tammy Duckworth isn’t white she is Asian. She was born in Thailand. She has no brains at all.

Born and raised in Chicago for almost sixty two years……why is it a surprise to so many people when it comes to Illinois politics? From a “City That Works” we`ve become the city that “Owes Me”.We have more special interest groups and non-for profit organizations than Carter has pills.Jessie Jacksons Rainbow Coalition includes Blacks,
    Browns, Reds, Yellows, Gays, Lesbians,and
females(sorry if I missed anyone). The only group missing is the White male,so what is he really saying? Our murder and crime rate is off the charts, our intelligence and good sense is in the toilet, and we are SURPRISED
by the type of officials we elect?????

  17. PerfectPolitics on January 4th, 2009 1:27 am

    LameBear,

Where was the outcry about restoring the Constitution while Bush and his cronies were gutting it to the bone over the last eight years?

The founding fathers were nothing but a bunch of racists without the character to enforce the Constitution to benefit all of America’s inhabitants while they were living. Therefore, the founding fathers should have been turning in their graves a long time before now given the way they decimated and enslaved people. It’s a shame that the founding fathers are held up on pedestals due to the illusions and distortions of American historians!

America is nothing more than an overly self-indulged and sinful nation that hides behind a veil of lies, distortions and illusions; better get off that American history Kool-Aid because it is mostly penned with liquid prejudice while omitting all of the grave injustices!

  18. George on January 4th, 2009 1:35 am

L.D. you are worse than human feces. Bush has nothing to do with Blago or the entire crooked politics of Chicago, Obama included. Anybody thats been involved in Chicago politics the last 100+ years is crooked…. its the only way you get into power there. I laugh at the joke you Dems elected to be president. Get ready (in the next 3-4 years) for double digit inflation. It’s the only way we can start to pay for all these ridiculous bailouts and stimulus packages.

The Democratic party won the presidency because short sighted, narrow minded psuedo-conservatives such as yourself, have been paying th esame worn out WHOA! HIGER TAXES! BIG INFLATION! mantra for 8 years while you flaggelate certain body parts….move on bro’…get something fresh…obama hasn’t even taken office, and morons like you are blaming him for the Bush bailouts of his banking buddies…let’s kill all the UAW workers, right? that’ll sell some new cars! jeesh….

There are no coincidences… Harry Reid is a smarmy corrupt politician just like all of his counterparts.

All seats in Congress and bought and sold every election. And the democrats ALWAYS have an excuse for their misdeeds.

If you think racism is dead because Obama is in office, you are truly mistaken.

But you have to give it to Obama, he got elected at a time where any mediocre lurch forward will be written down in history as a “Great Moment for Our Nation”.

Unfortunately, the only people who are going to make the rights are “We the People”, not those who bought their elections.

Dems raised $750 million for this election, and had $40 M at the end…but yet they are going to change? How laughable.

Amazingly, all the politicians in Chicago get smudged EXCEPT Obama. How did he rise to power without mixing a little dirt in his Martini?

This is just another sign that Blacks are overstepping there bounderies. The Country has let African Americans run loose and destroy our cities and fill our prisons.Racism is alive and well in this country and if we want to continue to live in the greatest country on earth, the Black man needs to be caged and sent back to Africa. If we let them run the country we will be destined for ruin.

  32. Ben Emos on January 4th, 2009 8:24 am

Before Harry Reid is prosecuted and hanged like Sadam, I would like to know if he had previous conversation with both Tammy Duckworth and Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan before calling Blagojevich to argue he appoint either of them. If he did, then it could be said that he is guilty of favoritism with a tinge of racism.

    To Lost In Chicago:

I’ve worked in Chicago. It was the 1960’s. The town was run by whites,…including some of my colleagues who later bragged about dumping a turd in an African-American intern’s coffee. The current mayor? If I’m not mistaken he’s white. So among the “interest groups” we should add the Serbs, the Ukranians..and Norwegians.

  34. Matthew Adams on January 4th, 2009 8:50 am

I don’t believe Harry Reid is being racist. But i think he needs to stop being pig headed about this. The Democrates need a Senatorand the vote. Obama is acting pig headed too. He will need Burris too to pass his agenda against Republicans like
Arlen Spector will do himself in by voting against Obamas stimulus package and the appointment of Eric Holder. Spectors choices will give an opening to Chris Matthews of ‘Hardball ” an opening to beat him in the general election in 2010. Spector will look like a fool, the unemployment rate is high and Pennsylvania needs a stimulus package. It will uspset his constituents and they will vote him out before his personal health issues over comes him. Spector will look like a racist to President Obama and African Americans.

As a citizen of the U.S. and a resident of Illinois this is a bitter sweet time for me. I am happy that we have progressed enough in the U.S. to elect an African American as president but I am ashamed of the whole political circus taking place in Illinois. I was also disheartened this morning when I heard about a hate crime against an African American male by two Caucasian males in Illinois. But I am proud that Barrack Obama is from Illinois, he represents the best of Illinois Politics.
Although we have grown as a country, we still have a long way to go for many reasons but especially because there are those amongst us who must hold on to racist hatred for whatever reason. Racism is a learned and hopefully through education and enlightenment more people will learn to think for themselves and reject racism. Those who advocate for African Americans to return to Africa seem to forget that the U.S. by right belongs to the Native American.

appreciated him overstepping his boundaries, when he put her on a pedestal and came to the shanties to get some love. Hell, he really OVERSTEPPED his boundaries, when he invaded the USA and killed of the Native Americans.

This is 2009 – if you are such a “billy bad a@@”, how about you “round us up” as you say.

When will people grow up? Everyone knows that integrity is extremely hard to find but that doesn’t mean that we shouldn’t hold our leaders accountable for their actions. That is where the everyday citizen comes in. By voting and attending meetings, writing letters, emails and making phone calls, we let those people we elect know that we are watching them. If they don’t appropriately represent us. WE should run them out of office. No matter what color or nationality they are. If the People want honest leadership, WE have do demand it, take action instead of sitting idly by quibbling with each other. Grow Up!

  40. Matt Williams on January 4th, 2009 9:49 am

Reid is not racist. It’s his job to make sure the Democrats get a filabuster proof majority in the 2010 election. Losing an Illinois Senate seat is not the way to go about this. Thus he wanted Blago to nominate someone who’s electable.

That said, Harry Reid is a pompous ass, as evidenced by his comment on tourists “smelling”. It’s really no surprise that he can’t envision another black person succeeding after Barrack Obama.

  41. Laurie on January 4th, 2009 9:57 am

Corruption in politics is something the American people can no longer afford to tolerate. It sends the wrong message to our youth as well as every hard working person who obeys the laws. What we need to do is prosecute white collar crimes as severly as we do blue collar crimes, because when the stock market, banks or loaning industry is hurting they recover their losses by increasing cost to the consumer. This bailout of wall street should be closely watched by consumer groups to make sure that the People get returns on our investment. This is what I am concerned about. Making sure everyone is held accountable from the White House down.

  43. Matt Williams on January 4th, 2009 10:17 am

The Republican Party is on a respirator right now, and there is nothing in their platform that suggests that they’ll grow in the next couple of elections. They must take a hard look at their positions and make changes where necessary if they are to survive as a party.

War- Republicans have always been convincing that they are strong on national defense. The Bush administration abused their position by starting a war with a nation that didn’t attack us. Furthermore, Iraq had complied with the Gulf War I treaty by the time Bush gave the order to invade Iraq. The shifting reasons for war hasn’t helped the administration’s credibility. Most damning for the GOP as a whole has been their nearly unyielding support for the President’s Iraq policy. The administration’s support of waterboarding, Guantanamo, and domestic spying have left Americans questioning Republican values. Finally, as the 2006 elections proved, Americans have Iraq War fatigue.

Taxes- Low taxes are great when there aren’t massive budget shortfalls. But when state governments can’t raise enough capital to pay teachers and police officers via the current tax code, people start to realize the necessity of taxes. Also, people aren’t dumb. They see the gap that has grown between rich and poor. Where the most wealthy used to be taxed at 79% following the Great Depression and then at 94% around WWII, they are taxed at 33% under the Bush tax cuts. This is a significant loss of government revenue. The idea that being rich is a responsibility as well as a right is once again becoming en vogue. The GOP is unwilling to cede ground on this issue, and it will cost them dearly.

  44. New York Texan on January 4th, 2009 10:23 am

Of course. Remember when the Democratic Senator from Minnesota passed away before his re-election, and they inserted over the hill Walter Mondale for name recognition. Alan Page, former Purple People Eater of the Minnesota Vikings, was a federal judge-name recognition yes, but BLACK. How about the that BLACK Democratic candidate for Governor from New YOrk, who had problems getting necessary finances for his campaign.

Now James Waats Republic Black Congressman from Oklahoma was welcomed. Too bad Lynn Swann Black Republican for Governor from Pennsylvania, plenty of name recognition there from Pittsburgh Steelers, sports commentator lost his bid.

Who are the real racists? The one’s who are always calling others that. They try to put one on the defensive and now is time for us real non-racists go on the counter-offensive and call them what they are!

Well, those liberal academics could also sink their teeth into the fact that Harry Reid tried to cut legal U.S. immigration levels to 300,000 annually (less than half what they were) in 1994. (BTW: I support this initiative, and as I’ve said before, liberal causes and what they claim to believe in would benefit from this type of change – especially with regard to working people, African-Americans, and the environment… the latter of which was one of the factors why Reid proposed this, and why some principled liberals continue to do so today.)

It took Barbara Jordan and a Democrat in the White House for there to be a U.S. President who took a stand in favor of immigration reduction… Perhaps Obama will take some action on this issue.

    Don’t count on it, though.

As for this particular issue, one reason why those three individuals are deemed ‘unelectable’ is because they typify the entrenched Chicago Democrat machine. But another reason, in the mind of Leader Harry Reid, is in fact, the obvious.

If this were a Republican who said this, there would be a hue and cry. I hope that my fellow Illinoisans find out about this, not the first time that the Dems have done this, for a U.S. Senate vacancy. Perhaps that would spark some outrage, or at least some significant criticism of that party, here in this state.

    Don’t count on it, though.
