Sunspot Activity Drops and So Does Global Temps

Let’s hope that 2009 is better than its predicessor. But somehow I doubt it with BHO beginning his Infestation on January 20th.

Since the asinine idea that man is responsible for global warming became the hysterical cry of the decade, I’ve been here trying to bring some sense of reality to the discussion. I’ve been saying for the past 4 years that the rise in global temperatures was – and I stress WAS – due to the activity of the sun. Perhaps this past year’s relatively non-existent sunspot activity and significant drop in global temperature can finally put to rest the retarded notion that we have a significant impact on global temperatures and weather patterns.

As we’ve noted, 2008 has been a year of records for cold and snowfall and may indeed be the coldest year of the 21st century thus far. In the U.S., the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration registered 63 local snowfall records and 115 lowest-ever temperatures for the month of October.
Global thermometers stopped rising after 1998, and have plummeted in the last two years by more than 0.5 degrees Celsius. The 2007-2008 temperature drop was not predicted by global climate models. But it was predictable by a decline in sunspot activity since 2000.
When the sun is active, it’s not uncommon to see sunspot numbers of 100 or more in a single month. Every 11 years, activity slows, and numbers briefly drop near zero. Normally sunspots return very quickly, as a new cycle begins. But this year, the start of a new cycle, the sun has been eerily quiet.
The first seven months averaged a sunspot count of only three and in August there were no sunspots at all — zero — something that has not occurred since 1913. – emphasis mine
As the IBD article explains, global temperatures have been on the rise since the end of the last minimum period known as ‘The Little Ice Age’ in roughly 1750. That is until 1998 when global temperatures stagnated. Now we know that global temperatures actually declined a half of a degree Celsius over the past 2 years. We also know that sunspot activity this year alone was almost non-existent. What further proof do we need?!?

2008 was the year man-made global warming was disproved
Easily one of the most important stories of 2008 has been all the evidence suggesting that this may be looked back on as the year when there was a turning point in the great worldwide panic over man-made global warming. Just when politicians in Europe and America have been adopting the most costly and damaging measures politicians have ever proposed, to combat this supposed menace, the tide has turned in three significant respects.
First, all over the world, temperatures have been dropping in a way wholly unpredicted by all those computer models which have been used as the main drivers of the scare. Last winter, as temperatures plummeted, many parts of the world had snowfalls on a scale not seen for decades. This winter, with the whole of Canada and half the US under snow, looks likely to be even worse. After several years flatlining, global temperatures have dropped sharply enough to cancel out much of their net rise in the 20th century.
Secondly, 2008 was the year when any pretence that there was a “scientific consensus” in favour of man-made global warming collapsed. At long last, as in the Manhattan Declaration last March, hundreds of proper scientists, including many of the world’s most eminent climate experts, have been rallying to pour scorn on that “consensus” which was only a politically engineered artefact, based on ever more blatantly manipulated data and computer models programmed to produce no more than convenient fictions.
Thirdly, as banks collapsed and the global economy plunged into its worst recession for decades, harsh reality at last began to break in on those self-deluding dreams which have for so long possessed almost every politician in the western world. As we saw in this month’s Poznan conference, when 10,000 politicians, officials and “environmentalists” gathered to plan next year’s “son of Kyoto” treaty in Copenhagen, panicking politicians are waking up to the fact that the world can no longer afford all those quixotic schemes for “combating climate change” with which they were so happy to indulge themselves in more comfortable times.
Suddenly it has become rather less appealing that we should divert trillions of dollars, pounds and euros into the fantasy that we could reduce emissions of carbon dioxide by 80 per cent. All those grandiose projects for “emissions trading”, “carbon capture”, building tens of thousands more useless wind turbines, switching vast areas of farmland from producing food to “biofuels”, are being exposed as no more than enormously damaging and futile gestures, costing astronomic sums we no longer possess. – emphasis mine
At a time when the economies of the world face complete collapse and a recession rivaling The Great Depression looms, it is ill-advised for the politicians of this country, and the rest of the free world, to be discussing more ridiculously expensive regulations being placed on industry that have no actual impact on global warming.
I’ve been saying for the same 4 years that the most abundant greenhouse gas in the atmosphere is water vapor. But do we hear any of these so-called environmentally conscience politicians screaming about how we should drain the worlds oceans? Short answer – NO. But what we do hear is the relentless shrill coming from these same politicians about how we must reduce carbon-dioxide emissions. CO2, a minority greenhouse gas in the atmosphere. Oh Yeah, that’ll make some difference Al.
I have a suggestion for Al and his brain dead drones of the MDI. If you truly want to reduce CO2 emissions then shut the hell up. That would reduce a lot of the excess CO2 and reduce the amount of noise pollution the rest of us have to deal with.
I agree with the London Telegraph. 2008 was the year that Anthropological Global Warming was truly debunked. Unfortunately, not many people are interested in facts.

Nope, not interested in facts. It’s much more exciting (and award winning) to manipulate data and bury truth under mountains of paper.
Like methane – a more potent greenhouse gas than CO2 – and its being “ignored” by the CO2 screamers. It’s not as glamorous, after all. Now they’ve gotten their hands on it, and global warming (now climate change) is STILL our fault because we eat too much meat.
Booker is the same moron who claims that white asbestos is harmless. His AGW denialism is just as pathetic.
Regarding his first point, you might want to look at this, which shows worldwide snow-cover anomalies over the past 40 years trending toward less and less of it, and this, which shows global temperature trends over the past 150 or so years. A single winter or even five of them does not a pattern make.
As to his second point, Booker’s list of “climate experts” who signed the Manhattan declaration includes precious few people who could be considered eminent climate scientists. Of the 619 authors of the IPCC AR4 WG1, zero signed the Manhattan declaration. (I know, I know, every single researcher affiliated with the world’s foremost provider of up-to-date findings in the area of climate science is part of a grand conspiracy. In your world, anyway.)
And concerning Booker’s third point, he is saying nothing except that reducing emissions is unrealistic. What does that have to do with whether these emissions are contributing to AGW? (Answer: nothing, of course.)
Booker is a fraud. While legitimate debate over human industry’s role in climate change certainly exists, this clown has no credible role in it.

My garden was garbage this year. And I mean not worth the effort I put into it. So was everyone else’s, that I talked to. And WE DO TALK AMONGST OURSELVES! I have known for a while that the growth rings in trees correspond to sunspot activity. I figured my garden was exempt until I put 2 and 2 together and researched sunspot activity and plant growth. Its easy to see from here now. We are at an 10/11 year low for solar radiation. Hence a [edited] garden for 2009. This was the worst year ever for growing a garden since 1913. I just hope its going to get better.
I really feel sorry for all of the Al Gore fans. I wish people of this great country would wake up and start thinking for themselves. Man made global warming is the biggest farce the leftists of this world have perpetrated on the people. We cant stop or eliminate carbon dioxide. It is a part of the atmosphere that is essential to all life. Read, study look into the facts about this. Dont be another lemming that keeps listening to all these hot air politicians. It has gotten cooler the last few years because the sun’s power is what controls most of the weather on this planet. We have been coming out of an ice age for the last 10,000 years. It may get warmer but eventually we will have another ice age and I believe if there are still leftists left (Ha ha)they will find a way to blame it on us, the people and that we should pay higher taxes to help control it and warm the earth again. Mike Savage has it right on the money. Liberalism is a mental disorder! All emotions and no substance!
