MSN Says Ridiculing Palin Is the Top TV Moment of 2008

MSN TV reporter, Dave Lake, has decided in his infinite wisdom that Tina Fey ridiculing Governor Sarah Palin is the top TV moment from the 2008 TV season. Aren’t you surprised that making fun of Sarah Palin has become the top TV moment? I mean, it’s incredible that the liberal media has decided that out of the entire TV season, this is the top moment! I’m SHOCKED, to say the least. (Don’t worry, I won’t run out of sarcasm any time soon)
From his blurb on the main page of the TV Year in review section I think we can see why Mr. Lake is a reviewer and not himself a TV writer. Let’s just say that his “humor” fell flat.
I Can See Tina From My House: The year’s most singular TV moment was Tina Fey’s return to “Saturday Night Live” as Republican vice presidential hopeful Sarah Palin. Fey, who was never known for her impressions while on the show, nailed the voice, mannerisms and spirit of the Alaska governor, propelling the show to its best ratings in 14 years. An appearance a few weeks later by the actual Sarah Palin fell flat, much like her bid for the White House. (NBC)
The appearance by the “actual” Sarah Palin “fell flat”? Says who? It was one of SNL’s highest watched episodes all year. It would seem, rather, that the whole rest of the SNL season fell flat compared to the ratings that Sarah Palin brought the show!
And, I’m sorry, how did Fey “nail” the Governor’s “spirit”? That would presuppose that Sarah Palin is as stupid as Fey attempted to make her seem. One has to point out that Fey did not get elected to the highest office a state has while Sarah Palin did.
It just doesn’t surprise that this leftist media writer for MSN saw Fey’s little spoof as the top TV moment.
But, let me point out four TV moments that didn’t make this guy’s list.
- Barack Obama’s vaunted religion speech
- Barack Obama’s special appearance to “the world” in Europe
- Barack Obama’s acceptance speech at the DNC
- Barack Obama’s election night and his victory speech in Chicago
I have to say, I find it just a touch amusing that Sarah Palin beat Barack Obama for top TV moments even if it was via Fey’s spoof.

Hey Todd,
It seems you are a little touchy when someone writes something negative about Sarah Palin. Did it ever occur to you that Mr Lake is entitled to his opinion, positive or negative, about Sarah Palin as you are? Not everyone thinks she is smart enough to be president or vice president. As far as I’m concerned, being mayor of Wasilla or governor of Alaska is a far cry from the office of president or vice president. Just listening to her speak tells me she doesn’t have the intelligence for a high office nor does it seem that she cares to further her education in politics. Alaska is a good place for her and is where she should stay.
Mabel, this wonderful Christmas Day doesn’t seem to have stopped you from over indulging in the utter lack of logic and simple-mindedness rampant on the left in America today.
I never said ANYTHING like Mr. Lake wasn’t “entitled to his opinion.,” so your saying that I was is rather foolish. And, yes, you are entitled to be as foolish as you like. This is America, after all. Have at it with my blessing, but so far you are off to a rousing start at it.
Secondly, your “point” about discounting being a mayor and then a governor is uninformed and empty. Bush was a governor, Clinton was a gov., Reagan was a gov., Carter was a gov., in fact, when you go back and check, quite a few of our presidents were lowly governors that you seem to feel were all unqualified.
As to her intelligence, you really don’t know a damn thing about her. What grades did she get in high school? Do you know? What marks on the energy debate did she get amongst Alaskans during her debates for gov? Do you know? Of course not.
Looks like you don’t have a clue what you are one about. Don’t give up hope, though. All you have to do as actually start paying attention instead of just listening to the Communist Daily Worker’s emails you get everyday. Try looking at some news for a change. Read a bit of history… or are you unaware that there was any history before you were born?
I have hope for you regardless. You CAN’T be as stupid as you appear here!
We have not heard the last of Sarah Palin.
She is an amazing woman. She will be back in a national spotlight soon. She will not just “stay in Alaska”.
Many of us are not “pushed over” by the negativity that was created around her during the election. In fact, I LOVE Tina Fey…and her impression was funny…but I also know parody when I see it. But I am also smart enough to not not vote for “Tina Fey’s impression”, but rather the real person.
Was Sarah Palin “smart enough” to be VP or even President? I think so…do the words “potatoe” and “Dan Quayle” ring a bell? Is being a Governor experience enough for a higher office. History has proved that Americans have voted for Governors, many times.
I can’t wait to see what the future holds for Sarah Palin! And what she can do for our country!
Merry Christmas to all!
Perhaps you dodn’t notice, but the best clip on SNL by Fey impersonating Palin was when the writers took a break and Fey actually used Palin’s own words (from one of the Couric interviews)!!….PRICELESS!
Palin was exposed for being WAY out of her league (which no rational person can deny). I won’t say Palin is stupid……but she clearly had no place on the national stage.
sidebar….re: the ACLU….how come Conservatives never point out that it was the ACLU that came to the defense of “Shredder” Oliver North and his private little “war”?? North’s actions are about as un-American as anything I’ve witnessed.
Oh….and Merry Christmas!
What “Sarah’s own words” would THAT be, Stewie?
you Know Warnie….the interview where she just rambled and didn’t make a whole lot of sense…..not her finest moment do you think?
So, in other words, Stewie, you have no examples?
You make some weak points at best
1)Entire TV season? Yes. If you realize how America had just past through 8 years of bad times and it’s dumbest president you’d realize most were ready to turn away another dummy with full prejudice. I liked McCain, but he never stood a chance.
2)The ratings were linked to her appearance yes, but many were clamoring to see her embarrassed or embarrass herself on national television. Again.
There was a vague hope by some she’d vindicate herself. She didn’t.
3)Palin may not be a total idiot but she campaigned like one. She didn’t know enough to be president one day. That’s for sure.
If Fey ran for office you can be sure her answers would’ve been intentionally funny, not a joke.

That would presuppose that Sarah Palin is as stupid as Fey attempted to make her seem. One has to point out that Fey did not get elected to the highest office a state has while Sarah Palin did.

4)Setting aside that these previous comments contradict each other, spoof and reality won this time. Obama, reality. Fey, spoof. When they work together things can turn out well.
When they are the combined, the results are the past 8 years. Bush / Palin are the best examples of reality and a joke put together. See how that turned out for everyone? Badly.
Gosh Warnie….if I wasn’t rstricted by this painfully slow dial-up connection I would search youtube for you….it’s on there if you care to look as you apparently missed the live version on TV. Millions of us saw it.
Fact is….I felt it was comedic genius on SNL’s part. And I believe that Fey owes Couric a HUGE debt of gratitude for exposing Palin (or rather, allowing Palin to expose herself) and giving SNL more material then they could possibly use in one season.
In other words, Stewie. You lied. Fey didn’t use Palin’s actual words on anything?
Ahhh Mr Huston….you just crossed the line and called an honest man a liar…..is that your usual defense when you don’t like or refuse to believe the truth?
Do your own research…..as for me, it’s time to open presents with my wife and child….perhaps AFTER I log onto the ACLU website and make a donation. I’ll check back tomorrow to see what other insults you wish to make towards me (and, again, the millions of us who watched it live….both the original version of Palin making an ass of herself and Fey throwing it right back at her).
Did anyone else reading this blog see the SNL I refer to?
Continue drinking the koolaid and…..have a Merry Christmas!
OK, maybe you didn’t lie, per se. Maybe you only repeated what others TOLD you happened even though it did not happen that way?
Is that some kind of apology for calling me a “liar”??
No sir, saw it with my own eyes.
If I were you (and thankfully I’m not) I would ignore this truth and believe whatever I choose to believe (there really WERE WMD in Iraq; Saddam really WAS in cahoots with Bin Laden; waterboarding is NOT torture, etc.)….as I am ME, however, I will believe the truth.
OK…signing off for real this time
Apology? No, not an apology. I may have been factually incorrect. Maybe you don’t have any actual knowledge to SAY that Fey “used Palin’s own words” on anything. If that is the case, the lie from you was in pretending you had the facts at hand. So, instead of a liar, I might more properly have asked if you were ignorant?
Merry Christmas, anyway.
Hi…I’m back!!
Tell you what…I’m pasting the google page with loads of different sources that prove what I say:
http://www.google.com/search?q=Fey+is+directly+quoting+Palin%27s+answers+from+the+Couric+interview&rls=com.microsoft:en-us&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&startIndex=&startPage=1
Or…if you’d rather do it yourself, here’s what I typed in for my google search:
Fey is directly quoting Palin’s answers from the Couric interview
Now, you’ll notice after verifying, it appears you have unjustly called me a liar….which I suspect you’ll either ignore, or dodge by changing the subject entirely….or perhaps do what other neocon bloggers do – delete this message before any of the other 2 people that pay attention to you realize that you are indeed an asshat.
If you’re going to have a blog, perhaps you should pay attention to what’s going on, or do your research so you don’t come off looking…..well, you know, “factually incorrect”.
At any rate, I’m not a liar….and apparently not ignorant either.
….this is fun!!
Merry Christmas!!
Nice try. Even your sources say VIRTUALLY. Do you know what virtually means? Let me help you with that. It means almost, nearly, close but not quite.
In other words, Fey DID NOT use Palin’s words. She lampooned them. She changed them.
She did not”use Palin’s own words” as you tried to claim.
I hope Santa brought you a dictionary today. You need one.
Wrong again Warnie….oh “you people” are in SUCH denial:

“Tina Fey returned to Saturday Night Live to reprise her widely hailed impersonation of Alaska Governor Sarah Palin. The sketch mocks Palin’s recent interview with CBS News’ Katie Couric (played on SNL by Amy Poehler), touching on Palin’s trip to New York and her comments about Russia and the financial bailout. [WATCH] Note that Fey often quotes directly from Palin’s original interview — apparently no parody was required. Here’s the SNL transcript with the original video: FEY AS PALIN: “Like every American I’m speaking with, we’re ill about this.”
….and this one:

“One of the funniest skits SNL has done in a long time… The funny/sad/scary part is that Tina Fey quotes directly from Palin’s original interview several times… Not much effort to parody Sarah Palin is needed.”
I understand you have to vehemently defend your position because you probably voted for this poor gal, yet your name-calling and denial sounds more like a 12 year old’s ranting then an adult with a blog…..are you 12???….if so, I apologize for communicating with you like a grown-up.
….you pathetic POS
You really ARE as stupid as you play on the Internet. The unfunny Fey does NOT “quote directly from Palin.” She changes it for sarcastic effect. See, your problem little Stewie, is that you’ve never actually SEEN Sarah Palin talk. You have allowed your empty little head to be filled with the lies from the media, WITHOUT bothering to do your own actual first hand research.
I pity “people” like you, little Stewie. And, when wondering about being an “adult” you call people a “POS”? Nice try at pretending to be sentient.
… I’ll wait here while you go to your dictionary to look up “sentient.”
you and I both know how you are in denial of the truth here Warnie…..she DOES quote directly and it IS funny (albeit a bit scarey too thinking that this woman may have been a heartbeat away from being the president).
Speaking of “lies from the media” I see you not only try to imitate Rush with your snide misdirection and misinformation, I looked you up and find that you are trying to imitate his appearance as well (you know, round and pasty). I suppose you also imitate his lifestyle…….overblown egomaniac pill popping druggie who avoided military service while critisizing others for it.
As a true American who fought and bled for my country, I find you irrelevant…..yet oddly I look forward to hearing you whine over the course of the next 4 years.
Thanks for the laughs…..and be seeing you around!
Now you’ve lied a second time, lil Stewie.
If that were true you would not be falling all over yourself to reply to me so very often.
And, I will ignore your “look like him” crack, because I have no idea what you are prattling on about?
I probably shouldn’t enter this spitting contest. I supported McCain/Palin but watched the Sat. Night Live parodies as well. My husband was the one that pointed out to me that Fey did use Palin’s own words. We checked and it is so.
Now, I don’t agree with the stew guy that it was “genius”, I mean, how smart do you have to be to NOT write a skit? Plus, I found it to be very disrespectful of Sarah.
We haven’t seen the last of her!
Like I said. Fey altered Palin’s words for comedic effect. This Stewie idiot is saying that all Fey did was say Palin’s words exactly, word-for-word. Fey did not do that.
