California allows its book sized constitution to be amended by a simple majority vote of the people, but it takes a 2/3 vote of the legislature to pass a budget and a 2/3 vote of the people to proposition to raise taxes. This is a strange system.

I think Attorney General Brown’s argument is that Proposition 8 is so radical (by California Standards) that it constitutes a fundamental rewrite of the Constitution which would require a 2/3 vote.

You may not care about gay marriage, but it cares about you.

If you think that letting gays “marry” will have no effect on anyone but them, think again.

Gay marriage is about a lot of things, but marriage isn’t one of them. It is about trying to radically remake our society in a way to their liking. It is about forcing everyone to equate their lifestyle as equal.

You doubt me? If gay marriage becomes legal, they’ll demand that all churches marry them or lose their tax exempt status. They’ll demand that all photographers and caterers serve their weddings or face lawsuits. They’ll pass “hate speech” laws effectively outlawing all criticism.

The state has always had the power re regulate marriage. Which is why is illegal to marry your first cousin, except in Arkansas, and why we banned the Mormon practice of polygamy. If you accept Jerry Brown’s logic, or lack thereof same, as binding, the state, to wit the People, have no power to regulate any thing anybody would care to call marriage.

Call that what you will. It sure is not civilization.

If they want a direct democracy and counting every vote, then I guess there’s no need for Representatives and Senators anymore, since that’s, like, a REPUBLICAN democracy and not DIRECT.

How, exactly, can the state constitution itself be “unconstitional”?

Yet another aspect of our lives where the government nose has intruded yet does not belong. Just like abortion, seatbelts, and any other number of personal choices that are being legislated to death.

Possibly the Democratic mantra is Court every vote. One of the major problems with the Liberal agenda is that they believe that they are so right that anyone who disagrees is evil.
