Obama’s New School Chief Supported Creating Gay High School in Chicago

-By Warner Todd Huston

So, how often do you think that the Old Media will mention that Barack Obama’s choice for Secretary of Education, Chicago schools chief Arne Duncan, supported to be opened in Chicago a gay, lesbian and transgender high school? Any takers?

I have looked over many of the stories on Obama’s pick for Sec of Ed, but seen mention of his support of the gay high school only a few times. Only three stories mentioned it out of the first 20 I checked. Even the Wall Street Journal didn’t mention it in their announcement of the Obama pick.

Of that gay-friendly school, Duncan was quoted by Chicago land news outlets in October.

“If you look at national studies, you see gay and lesbian students with high dropout rates…Studies show they are disproportionately homeless,” Duncan said. “I think there is a niche there we need to fill.”

One wonders if Duncan will bring this proposal with him to Washington D.C. and attempt to force school systems all across the country to start up their own gay, lesbian and transgender schools?

So, shall we take bets to see how often this gets brought up?

Education Week reported on the connections of Arne Duncan and the Chicago Annenberg Challenge, the far left organization that tried to shut out researchers from finding out about Barack Obama’s connection to terrorist William Ayers during the campaign. (Ed. Week is a subscription site, but I found another place that had the full article reproduced )

In the Ed. Week article, Ken Rolling, the executive director of the Chicago Annenberg Challenge and a former associate director of the Woods Fund, said that Duncan relied on the Annenberg Challenge to assist him in programing the Chicago Public Schools agenda.

Mr. Rolling said the research project helped shape the agenda for Arne Duncan, the current chief executive officer of the Chicago schools, especially on improving teacher quality.

So, there is another unsavory aspect of Duncan’s connections. Will the media report it?

Hey Jen, you go get a life! This citizen has the right to express himself.

Teaching any moral value system is not the responsibility of tax-payer funded public schools.

Schools are there to teach ACADEMICS, not acceptance of social deviation.

This “citizen” who “has the right to express himself” also bears the burden of reaping what he’s sown, which is derision for his hateful bigotry. Having a publicly-funded high school that is solely for homosexuals is probably not a good idea, but that doesn’t change the fact that the writer of this post is a douchebag of the highest order for the way he portrays this issue.

By the way, public schools do have a duty to teach moral responsibility. That’s why schools have programs that teach sex-ed and counsel against racial and gender discrimination. Acceptance of so-called “social deviation” is exactly the thing schools should be teaching if that’s what the taxpayers want.

“schools should be teaching if that’s what the taxpayers want.”

Bet you wouldn’t put it to a vote in California! Funny, when the people vote against a social deviation (gay marriage), that must be overturned by judicial fiat. When an appointed bureaucrat decides we must have gay schools, that is all of sudden “what the taxpayers want”. And what they shall have, right?

In case you haven’t noticed, public schools can no longer teach anyone to read, let alone teach moral responsibility. Urban schools are the easiest places to get drugs in America. Teaching innumerate, illiterate thugs PC crap won’t help them. We have ignored the cancer and are fighting the hangnail. But, since we’ve made the cancer of stupidity and gangsterism systemic and sacred, what else is the multi-billion $ educrat racket going to do with itself?

Hmm, public schools falling behind in education. I wonder whose fault that could be? Could it be No Child Left Behind, which has the effect of teaching one how to take a test instead of teaching the subject matter? Because that’s what a lot of teachers are saying.

As for fixing urban schools, what’s your solution? The Bible? Honestly, instead of bitching constantly, why don’t you propose some actual, viable solutions?

At least the so-called “multi-billion $ educrat” wants to help the system. I see none of you idiots proposing solutions for the plight of urban public schools.

“Hmm, public schools falling behind in education. I wonder whose fault that could be? Could it be No Child Left Behind”

Bi-paritsan dumb assed-ness. You do know who Teddy Kennedy is, right? The public schools have been failing for far longer than that. We pretend more money will fix it, but we spend more money per child in DC and LA than the best private schools in the nation. I wonder why Obama won’t send his kids to the public institutions that his party have largely created? The teacher unions give almost exclusively to Democrats. Maybe they like the lack of standards the Democrat party offers. Gay schools, fuzzy math, social promotion, academic welfare checks! Just like real life.

My solution for “urban schools” (I can say that because I never attended anything other from kindergarten to City College, bro) More discipline, more accountability, zero excuses. End of story. Why rob the taxpayers to teach people who don’t want to learn or can no longer learn due to the influence of drugs, pop culture, or bad teachers protected by union contracts?

He has a record of improving the education in the Chicago schools but you certainly have put a finger on a moonbat idea of his that was most likely pandering to a specific group.

Like homosexuals are the only ones to be bullied in schools. It is like the man is saying I support Segregation because Whites treat Black unfairly. That certainly does not speak well for his wisdom.
