We have been traveling parallel paths. I have come to the conclusion that if you put enough money behind any belief system,no matter how stupid, retrograde, toxic or destructive it might be,it will dominate-at least for a period of time. Nevertheless, I don't think our civilization is completely lost yet.
I've given up trying to convince people of the existential danger that Western Civilazation faces. There is an enormous hubris in the minds of our leaders that gets absorbed by the citizenry.
What I do is try to wrap their minds around two ideas. (1) Christ died for his beliefs-- Mohammed made everbody else die for his (2)In all of the major and minor religions in history only one does not have some version of the Golden Rule-Islam.
These are the foundational concepts of both religions. There might be deviations in the course of the history of the two religions but the truth of them goes back to these concepts.
If they seem receptive to those ideas, I give them a copy of "The Study of Political Islam" by Jaime Glazov Frontpage Magazine February 5, 2007. I always carry a few copies with me. It's only about 7 pages but it causes a warning light to go on in the minds of most rational people.
I have several sites that I check regularly that educate. Jihad Watch, Daniel Pipes, Spengler East Asia Times.

Don't despair. Keep fighting. We have the best cause ever.

Roger, you are sane and a saint. You are not mad, nor paranoid; you are frustrated. Many others share your frustration, including me.

Take no prisoners.

I was afraid I was the only one who felt this way. Mine came after the death of my father instead of 9/11. During the year following his death, I reevaluated my values. I thought my father was the very best person on earth. However, in looking at my values, I realized he fell into the category you described, good and honorable, honest beyond belief, but unwilling to forcefully project those values to other people and call them idiots when their comments and values were clearly not in the best interest of society as a whole and America.

I, too, have whittled my "friends" list down at their request to be taken off my e-mail list. However, I consider those people to be people without firm values that I hold dear- honesty, integrity, love of God and country, belief that life is sacred and that freedom is worth fighting for. My son-in-law's Hum-V got hit by an IED this morning. My daughter got word that he suffered shrapnel and powder burn wounds. My first reaction was that I wanted to go out, find an anti-war, anti-American liberal, get them to take a swing at me and then just beat them to a pulp. Like you I guess I am mad. I fear for our country and our freedom. God help us all.
