Judge Orders No Christian License Plates in South Carolina
Posted on December 11, 2008
Why people are offended by license plates like this I will never understand.
A federal judge says South Carolina must stop marketing and making licenses plates that feature the image of a cross and the words “I Believe.”…
U.S. District Judge Cameron McGowan Currie said the case needs to be heard in court. In the meantime, the judge said the Department of Motor Vehicles cannot take any more orders for the plates…
Currie’s ruling said specifically that the DMV would have to remove any advertising for the plate on its website.
And in fact, the department changed its web page late Thursday afternoon.
It is ironic that in a country founded on religious freedom and free speech, that judges can deny people the right to purchase tags paid for with their own tax money that expresses their religious beliefs. No one is forced to buy the tags. The state isn’t endorsing the plates, the people are buying them. Whatdaya wanna bet a lawsuit would have never occured if this had been a crecent and star saying Allahuakbar? I doubt any judge would have the cajones to quote church and state if that were the case, though the Americans United for Separation of Church and State would have never brought a lawsuit in the first place.
These over-sensitive, easily offended, insecure crybabies are so petty. Their tantrums every time the word god comes up is revealing, and amusingly annoying. I guess this is what losers do with their spare time. Christianity is a popular commodity in South Carolina! Let the state make money from it. If you are offended, don’t buy one. No money from your pocket! They only charge people just enough to reimburse the state for the cost to produce the plate! Jeez!

You just try and stop them you bunch of pussies.
Please read the first amendment of our constitution. “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof…” No one is saying you cant practice your religion, but our government cannot support any one religion. It’s a simple concept.
Thinker, how is giving someone the option to buy the design promoting a religion? What law did the state pass on the design? How is Congress even involved? In what way does this violate the first amendment?
To me it would seem that a judge taking the decision away from people to purchase the license plate is in violation of the first amendment. This prohibits Christians from exercising their religious freedom, as well as any other religion that may petition to have a license plate of their own. In fact this is promoting atheism, since the belief in nothing is still a belief.
Ff this is such an outrage how about just putting a freaking sticker on your car that tells everyone you love god like you already have? The problem is they are using tax payer dollars at some point in this process. And tax payer dollars are not allowed to be used for this promotion of religion. And yes it is promotion of religion because there is no purpose other then to share with others your religion. To say when you buy it the cost is only there to REIMBURSE the state that means state pays for them first sells them then gets paid. What about all those unsold plates? How about the time, which equals money, state workers are putting in to make and design these plates. As I said at some point TAX DOLLARS are being used in this process and MY TAX DOLLARS do not fund RELIGION.
