Obama Caught in Lie? Did He Meet With Blagojevich?
Update II: Conveniently, after staying on the site since November, the article I quoted in the below article stating Obama and Blagojevich met has disappeared! Luckily, a sharp reader has emailed me a screen shot. I appreciate that. Click on the image for full size.
Update: We can give Obama the benefit of the doubt in his vague response, however it still does not excuse the point. The point is that they met and discussed Obama’s replacement. This connects the two on the subject matter Blago was arrested for. Perhaps Obama is guiltless in this, but he was associated. By no means do I imply guilt by association, however Obama’s obscure answer was misleading. It is a fact Obama and Blagojevich met and discussed Obama’s replacement. Here is from an official press release from Blagojevich:
Governor Blagojevich Congratulates President-elect Obama and Discusses U.S. Senate Seat To fill President-Elect Barack Obama’s Senate seat, Governor will use deliberate process to select suitable replacement.
Don’t blame me for being suspicious of Obama’s involvement in this. Afterall, you do know how he got his Senate seat in the first place, don’t you?
In his first race for office, seeking a state Senate seat on Chicago’s gritty South Side in 1996, Obama effectively used election rules to eliminate his Democratic competition.
As a community organizer, he had helped register thousands of voters. But when it came time to run for office, he employed Chicago rules to invalidate the voting petition signatures of three of his challengers.
Obama knows how to play Chicago style, so forgive me if I suspect that he may not of changed.

Obama says he never met with Blgojevich, yet Axlerod said he did. Then Axelrod says he mispoke.
Asked what contact he’d had with the governor’s office about his replacement in the Senate, President-elect Obama today said “I had no contact with the governor or his office and so we were not, I was not aware of what was happening.”
But on November 23, 2008, his senior adviser David Axelrod appeared on Fox News Chicago and said something quite different.
While insisting that the President-elect had not expressed a favorite to replace him, and his inclination was to avoid being a “kingmaker,” Axelrod said, “I know he’s talked to the governor and there are a whole range of names many of which have surfaced, and I think he has a fondness for a lot of them.”
Now we have this article from November 8, which obviously “mispeaks” as well:
Now that Barack Obama will be moving to the White House, his seat in the U.S. Senate representing Illinois will have to be filled.
Obama met with Governor Rod Blagojevich earlier this week to discuss it. Illinois law states that the governor chooses that replacement. There’s already been speculation about his selection…from Congressman Jesse Jackson, Junior to Illinois Department of Veterans’ Affairs Director Tammy Duckworth.
To quote Alice in Wonderland, ‘this gets curiouser and curiouser.”

Obama didn’t say he’d never met the governor of his state. That would be ridiculous. He’s been photographed with the governor. Of course he’s met the governor.
He said he had no contact with the governor, clearly referring to contact during the last few days of the investigation. If I were to say to someone, I haven’t heard from my mom, would you take that to mean I’ve never spoken to my mom? Jeez.

in the transcripts, blagojevich has this to say about the suggestion that he should just appoint a qualified person rather than sell his appointment:

That Press release does not say that the Gov. and Obama discussed the vacancy. What’s wrong with you?
To the deceptive liberal meme that Blagojevich’s profanity-laced tirade about Obama somehow exculpates Obama: the transcripts are shot through with the suggestion of ongoing conversations and even importunacies between the two.
Of course, as always, it is instructive, if overly obvious, to ask the tried and true role-reversal question the left can never answer: if this were Bush’s friend, a governor for whom he’d worked, a breathtakingly corrupt creep with whom he’d shared advisors, etc., would the media and Left be so feverishly arguing for benefit of the doubt? As always, all one can say is “give me a break.”

He said he had no contact with the Governor ABOUT HIS REPLACEMENT IN THE SENATE.

i believe the point is that obama WASN’T at all interested in offering more than thanks for the gov picking the right person, and the gov hated him for that.

my understanding is that obama and the gov HAVE met in the past to discuss, among other things, the senate replacement.
that DOES make sense, right?
i mean obama currently holds the seat, as elected, and the gov will appoint his replacement, as required by law.
i assume that everyone understands why they would have met to discuss this.
as for obama’s statements, i think he is saying that he had no contact with the gov regarding the crimes the gov is accused of.
to recap, obama met previously with the gov, but had no contact with him about buying him off.
and was not aware of the crimes that the gov has since been charged with.
let’s check the record. what exactly is this controversial statement of obama’s that ACLU would have right wing nuts believe is a lie?

There is no proof. This is a quote from the press release from Blago on November 5. It never says that Rod and Obama talked. It says he congratulated the president elect. It does not say they discussed the Senate appointment. Decide for yourself.
After congratulating President-Elect Barack Obama on his decisive victory, Governor Rod R. Blagojevich announced today that he will take his time and use a diverse senior staff made up of key members of his administration who will assist him in selecting a suitable replacement for Obama.
There was no reason for Blago to lie back on Nov. 5th. In fact he would have crowed about meeting with Obama. Also, Blago was pissed at Obama for not playing ball. Having “No Contact” with Blago would be the same as not playing ball. Unless more comes out in the future, there is ZERO evidence that Obama discussed the seat with Blago.

The whole country outside of Chicago is figuring out now what Republicans and Conservatives inside of Chicago have always known. Chicago and Cook County local government reeks of corruption, greed, kickbacks, and one scandal after another. It truly is unbelievable. The local politicians in Chicago still act like it’s the 1920’s. I’ve lived in Chicago for 14 years. I’m still stunned by the regular, brazenly corrupt acts of Cook County politicians. If you have time and really want to investigate deeper, go look at the Aldermanic level of Chicago politics and at Daley’s recent direct reports. Wow. Anyway…this is the cesspool from which obama was politically born. I’d be worried as Dem when all people can counter with is the same empty rhetoric from the campaign about how bad a mess Bush left, blah, blah, blah. That’s not what this is about. This is about the shocking, to some anyway, revelation that obama isn’t jesus christ,or some divine being, but *gasp*, just another shady guy from the Chicago Political Machine.

The FBI transcripts make it clear that they DID indeed talk about Valerie being the replacement for BHO.
The very next day AFTER that conversation, it was announced she would be BHO’s advisor.
Coincidence? No. I think that someone tipped off the BHO kamp there was a wiretap in place and caught their discussion, OR Valerie was told, perhaps by the other ‘candidate’: the AG, and to head off the posse, they inserted her into the WH position.
Hence no more follow up convo’s.
There’s a stench coming from the left and I think it comes from the President-elect. Face it, where there’s smoke there’s fire.

It says “Discusses US Senate Seat”, in case you have trouble reading English.

Not wanting it to happen. Predicting it with certainty, though. The country is at war, the stakes are high and we elected a kindergarten teacher with no record, no history, and no experience in the Military. Neither he nor his running mate ever saw fit to serve his country in uniform.
It will happen, and it will be Obama’s fault.
I believe that Blago was right; that Obama refused to go along with his plans to sell a Senate seat to the highest bidder. Blago was angry at Obama for refusing to take the deals he’d offered.
But that means Obama knew what Blago was doing, and did not say anything to anyone.
This grieves me greatly.

Did Obama buy his senate seat? Would it be the reason why the Democrats are so fast to go after Blagojevich? Could be that it’s business as usual with the left, remember the Kennedys have had the same seat for years and everybody looked the other way.
